Our flower girl baskets....aren't they cute

Carnival did a beautiful job on the wedding and reception. The reception was a 2-hour open bar in Sam's Piano Bar. Now I am not one for big church weddings. If the time comes for me to get married I will definitely think about doing it on a Carnival ship. Everything was beautiful

Wrigley...holy crap, I know Danielle!!! Our daughters play softball together and she literally lives across the street from us! That's awesome! I've never met Mrs. Pam, her mom, but her sister in law and I are good friends as our daughters also play softball together and are in the same class! Small world!

  2. We will be going to Cozumel on NCL in January, there will be 7 ships in port with over 20k passengers. I would have loved to do an AI but, I was overruled by my hubby and friends. They would rather just walk around and basically do a diy tour of the downtown area. None of us have ever been and I am most definitely a planner, I've been researching and haven't found much. Does anyone have any suggestions on places to go to eat, shop, anything else we should do without leaving the general area of the pier? I believe we will be docking at Punta Langosta.

I apologize for any typos, I'm on an iPad.

  3. Anyone been in this midship balcony cabin? We're booked in it in January and I'm wondering if someone has pictures or can give us a review on this particular cabin. This is our first NCL cruise and we can't wait!

  4. That's right, I said the "F" word that nobody wants to think about when planning a vacation...fitness! My husband and I will be going on our first NCL cruise with his company on the Dawn in January. I know that there's a fitness center on the Dawn but can anyone tell me anything about it? What kind of classes they offer or equipment they have?

We've both been really health conscious this year & I'd like to keep it up while on vacation. I'm not sure if there are more details available once our agent books everything and sends us our login info for ncl.com or what. We should be getting that information this week.

Overall, I've looked around NCL.com at excursions and all of the deck plans and stuff but I have no clue what to expect. I am a very detail oriented person and I like to plan, so this is driving me nuts. Is there anything specific I should be prepared for on NCL? We started a tradition on our cruise in January to have dinner at a specialty restaurant, just the two of us, at least once a cruise. Which one would you recommend on the Dawn?

Any specific dishes in the MDR that we should try? Or any we should avoid?

Anything else you can think of that we might need to know? Anything we might not want to miss? Anything we should most definitely avoid?

  5. www3traveler, that is the same date of our tentative sailing! So, if things stay on track it looks like we'll be sailing on the Dawn for the first time together! This past January was my first time sailing out of New Orleans and we loved it. We live just over the state line in Mississippi so we are in N.O. quite often but we've never been down the river until the January cruise. Wow! We saw the river both at night and day and it's an interesting trip, there's nothing quite like it anywhere else, especially not when you're embarking on a cruise. We are very excited about trying NCL, I think it will really fit both us well. We both like to plan out our days and such but not with other people telling us where to be and when, so I think the freestyle cruising is going to be right up our alley.

We love the group we travel with and absolutely had a blast this past January so we're looking forward to it again. I told the hubby that he had a choice, he could either qualify for the cruise or pay for it but one way or another we were going...he agreed!

Nets33, thank you for addressing the dress code. I'm one of those girls who live in jeans and t-shirts so every once in a while it's fun to dress up but I don't like being snubbed if I don't want to dress up on a specific night. Since this is a company event I would definitely bring some nicer jeans or maybe a comfortable dress but nothing fancy! Have you tried the brazilian steakhouse on NCL ships? I'm wondering how it is. My brother-in-law constantly raves about Texas de Brazil and we've never tried it but I saw where the Dawn has the brazilian steakhouse and considered adding that to our to-do list.

first2travel, thank you! From all of the pictures and youtube videos (I like to do my research and get myself excited about trips so I keep the hubby motivated and on a roll with his business) she looks gorgeous! I can't wait to see her in person!

  6. My husband and I love cruising! We've both gone on cruises separately and in January went on our first cruise together. We've been on both Carnival and RCI but neither of us have been on NCL nor do we know anyone that has cruised NCL. As of right now, his company is doing a cruise at the beginning of 2015 on the Dawn out of NOLA and we're planning on going (as long as he keeps up his hard work and is eligible).

Tell me anything that you think I need to know about NCL any tips, tricks, what to expect. Anything that we've experienced on Carnival and/or RCI that we should expect or should not expect on NCL. I'm really excited about trying NCL!!!

  7. My husband and I are debating about which to do in February 2015. We have two kids, ages at the time will be 4 & 6. Neither kid has ever been to WDW or on a cruise so either would be a first. Based on our research, both would cost right around the same amount. We would have to drive or fly no matter which we choose.

It's more like, I would love to do a cruise because being on the water is my absolute favorite thing and the hubby would rather do WDW.

Which do you prefer? Disney Cruise or Disney World?

This is a question I had just out of curiosity and thought to post on here to get thoughts and opinions. DH & I have never sailed on a Disney cruise so we have no experience with the cruise line, but we have been to WDW.

  8. chengkp75 brought up a good point, does he have issues with dairy in food? My 3 year old son cannot have any dairy whatsoever, not to drink, not in food, no cheese, anything that even hints at being dairy we have to avoid. Definitely get in touch with Royal and let them know even though you're past the 30-60 day window.

We've been considering taking our little ones on a cruise but I'm curious as to how they would handle the dairy allergy because in everything I've seen about dietary needs with RCI, I've never seen anything that specifically stated they could accomodate my son with dairy free food. Wouldn't hurt to ask though.

  9. Hadn't heard that! What I did hear is that cruises out of NOLA are very popluar! Good thing we are booked out of there in 2015!

Maybe we'll know something next week.

Cruises out of NOLA do seem to be very popular. A lot of people seem to like the ride down the river even if it's dark and they can't see much. If RCCL doesn't put a ship in NOLA I guess we'll have to try out CCL or NCL but I'd rather stick with RCCL.

  10. Forgot to address the specialty restaurants. We did eat at 2 specialty restaurants but I can honestly say we weren't pressured to eat there. We ate at Chop's the first night with some of our group because there was a special where it was $21 the first night (might be off on the price but it was around $21) and then we ate at Giovanni's on the last night of the cruise so that we could have dinner just the two of us, away from our group.

There were tables set up on embarkation day where you could make reservations at the specialty restaurants if you wanted to and didn't do it online beforehand but other than that, we never saw anybody trying to upsell the restaurants.
