1. Personally I'm no so exited about all the new Oasis Class ships, especially as they sell off the old vessels. I'm not saying this class isn't neat, but RCL could be limiting their itinerary options moving forward.

That could be their strategy in the long run. Converting royal to ships with popular ports where the ship is mostly the destination as seen with the bigger oasis and quantum classes. Celebrity on the other hand, a line aimed more towards those who want to visit exotic ports where millennium class and the new edge class could reach.

Even if that's the route they are taking, I support their decision seeing as they are the only family oriented line that's been catered for to all corners of the globe. Unlike NCL or Carnival.

They could become the most dominant and well recognized family cruise line world wide.

  2. Ovation booked at Singapore gives new possibilities... To me it seems that she might sail out of Southampton in 2016 than, or doing Med cruises between May and Oct 2016, and than switching to China. [emoji5]️

Wondering that Navi and Oasis are still listed for Singapore as well... [emoji15]

I don't think royal would dare to put 2 quantum class ships in China. I would think transposition enroute to west coast for Alaska. Or is it possible that royal starting to explore longer itineraries like around the world itineraries? Hmmm... Using ovation for that would make sense seeing as itineraries could be in both hemispheres for part of it, cold and hot.

  3. Ovation of the Seas has been added to the pop down menu Marina Bay Cruise Terminal Singapore.

Very interesting. Did not expect to see another quantum class this far. Maybe quantum to leave after a while and then ovation/anthem coming in to replace?

IMHO i think it would most likely be ovation not anthem, seeing as anthem is being based in European markets for now.

  4. So I've been reading up on the minimum age requirements one has to be in order to cruise without an older adult. The sailing that I am looking at specifically is the 4 night roundtrip from Singapore on 13th Nov. 2015. On the guidelines it says that cruises originating from South America, Europe, ASIA, Australia and New Zealand allow 18 year olds to sail unaccompanied. However, does this mean that I (meaning an 18-year old), cannot book online? Does it not take into account different laws when booking online?

I tried booking and it said at least one traveller has to be over the age of 21 or accompanied by an adult over the age of 21. But we are departing from Singapore where 18-year olds can legally travel by themselves.

    Thanks very much in advance.

  5. I have found only this list of Marina Bay, Singapore, that implies that Oasis might switch to Asia in near future: http://mbccs.com.sg/

Just scroll down the dropdown list - but currently there are no dates listed for Oasis - and Navigator is listed there as well.

But I am wondering when RCI intends to send Oasis to Asia? After Harmony's Europe season, ending in fall 2016, when she is likely to head to Florida??

For all we know, Oasis could come much earlier say end this year or start of next year. Look at Quantum. She's sailing out of Singapore June 12th and June 15th which we all know but dates for MBCCS have not been posted on the port schedule. Hmmm....

  6. Everything depends on what RCI has planned for oasis 4. Possibly oasis 4 can have certain amenities that allow for it's home port to be in Asia. Just like we saw in the quantum class with enclosed decks with seaplex and indoor pool. IMO I believe that we could see possibly enclosed solarium, indoor pool.

The slides on the new oasis 3 and the statements made for why they called it harmony ( saying it was a compromise of other styles) for me is a way of RCI to attract more customers in the US specifically families that have chosen other companies due to slides and the visual attractions it brings. I've seen in other RCI ships after renovations to include a slide. We might be seeing a change of construction of ships with slides.

Does anyone think ovation will have. Slide if Florida were to be it's home port?

I think quantum class ships might be too small to add slides as big as those on Harmony. They look like they take tons of space seeing as they circle round and round as what they said "over a span of three decks!"

  7. Given that they are setting up for home porting in Shanghai, I would also think Mandarin is what they mean. But if you had to define "the local language" (quoting from RCI; note the singular "the local language") of Singapore, what would that be?

BTW I would have thought that the variations in departure times on the Singapore cruises are driven by the cruising hours and arrival times at the subsequent ports. But RCI on its website list list "cruising speed" of both Quantum and Mariner at 22 knots. It is in the company's interest to cruise slower, since it both saves fuel and allows more hours for the casino to be open, so I can't think of a logical answer to your initial question of why Q is leaving later.

    Thom

English and Mandarin are both the local language spoken as a first/second language by many people here. I'm still puzzled as to why Q leaves so late. Hmmm...

  8.
How much alteration do they do to a ship for the Asian market? Does it cost big dollars. If this is the case then it may make sense in sending Harmony directly to Asia.
I agree, especially since they have decided to put Bionic Bar and Wonderland on Harmony. The South-East Asian Market as well as Hong Kong are very fussy eaters and generally like more classier service and products such as food. So I see this as being a step forward that RCI is taking to capture the market while the money is still here.
  9. Both Anthem and Quantum going to China?! I think that's a bit of a stretch!

I agree. This would seems to ectreme in imo for RCI to drastically change again. Even if they did, it surely won't last long cause i'm pretty sure the Chinese market for demand will slow over a few years with many new ships in Asia. Not just from RCI but other brands as well. It may be supplying too much for a demand of half of what it's planning to give.

  10. With Rhapsody gone, and now the rumour of Radiance leaving Oz as well, minimum one of the above ships need to take over the Transpacifics through Hawaii for the Alaska season. No way RCI will be dumping the Transpacific itinerary, always higher priced and sells out. I'm actually surprised they didn't replace Rhapsody right away. We now see Jewel on the Monterey port list so weère figuring JOS is doing Alaska again in 2016, but one of the above in Asia/Oz ships will likely come over in place of Radiance.

Any guesses?? I don't see Legend doing this nor the "Asiafied" Mariner.... leaving Q, NOS, ExOS and VoyOS. Only one of the above ships have the outward focus, huge indoor pool PLUS massive solarium, with more glass than Radiance Class... Of course, I'm on the Q bandwagon big time!!! :D

Would there be a size issue with Q calling in Juneau, Ketchikan and other ports on that itinerary though? I too want to believe that it will be Q in Alaska

  11. At least Navi is listed at Singapore, but maybe she is heading to Australia and she stops at Dubai, India and Singapore on her transfer cruise to Australia.

But you are right, there gonna be a lot of RCI ships sailing Asia...

Explorer is currently sailing Australian itineraries. So if Navigator is added, would that mean Explorer is redeployed elsewhere? Or serve as another ship to supply demand there?

  12. In fact we have!

But I am wondering at all that RCI might consider to send more ships to Asia...

With Explorer and Legend joining the market in late 2015, don't they have enough ships there??

Isn't Navigator coming as well? I know that her name is listed on the port website and I don't think its a placeholder cause Explorer is listed as well. so that would leave Asia with Quantum (for a while), Legend, Explorer, Mariner, Navigator and partly Voyager? Thats jump is a few too many from previous years

  13. Since Allure is open for booking in Caribbean until end of May 2016, I do not really think she will move to Europe.

I reckon either Oasis or Oasis 3...

I actually think that Oasis 3 will have her maiden season in Europe. seems like the perfect time for sailing to commence as she comes out late spring/early summer. That leaves me to think that Oasis herself will be redeployed in the Far East. We tend to have much older ships in Asia then you guys in the Americas. Also Oasis although 5-6ish years old is condsidered new by our standards here.
