  1. I've cruised a lot and almost every trip I hear of someone that thought their birth certificates were good enough. And found out they weren't. They stayed on the dock while the ship left. They tried, begged, pleaded, even cried, to deaf ears.

You need a state certified birth certificate. I don't believe they are free. And the only thing you can do with them is get on a cruise ship.

  2. I dont know if thats a reason or not.Your medical ins policy should cover all costs if you need medical on the ship.Yes you may need to be persistant but thats the way it is ..If you are not then you will pay unnessacarely. You have medical ins for this reason and shouldnt have to buy another policy to cover that.Best thing to do is call your ins group beforhand and inquire on their policies.

Most insurance carriers do not cover you outside of the USA. I know for a fact Medicare doesn't.

And getting trip insurance from an outside source is fine if you are 35. But take a look at the prices for an 87 year old woman?. Cruise Care only varies their price on what your fare is. Regardless of age. I got a total package insurance quote for My MIL 2 years ago. Because we were flying to La for a few days precruise (private air not Choice Air). Then flying to do an Alaskan cruise. They wanted over $600 for the insurance just for her. Total for my wife, myself and her. Was over $1,200. The whole package cost without insurance was less than $3,800. 25% for coverage was over the top. Especially when most of the time we were in the USA.

  3. We recently got the Barclay's card. Since Royal is doing the bogoho deal our 75,000 points are only worth $750 onboard credit. We will use the RCL card on our next few cruises to get the double points and get to 125,000 good for a 7 nighter for 2.

We will run up the Barclay's card till we get to $3000 so we can get the $400 bonus. The Barclay's card also has a chip for secure foreign transactions.

With using it for shopping plus bill paying we will more than make up the $89 fee.

BTW we keep a zero balance.

  4. I'm beginning to think that we have a better chance of epidemic and global extinction from the zombie apocalypse before ebola ends humanity.....I also think this entire ebola story has been blown way out of proportion just to make headlines. As mentioned, more people are in contact with and die from the flu virus every year than from ebola. The flu virus is also much easier to spread. Lately it seems that ebola has become the new Norovirus of the cruise industry. Relax, and use common sense and I would hope that most people will have a negligible chance if contracting ebola.

You do realize that the WHO predicts that soon the number of new ebola cases will be over 10,000 per week. How long do you think it will be till someone travels to Mexico? And infects others? The health situation in Mexico is terrible at best. Do you realize how many cross our southern border every day looking for work or smuggling? Wait till it becomes a life or death option. Where do you think they will go?

  5. Not being political. But the primary job of government is to protect the people. Not to tell you what you should or should not do (nannystate).

Just like when you step on a cruise ship You expect the captain and crew to make sure you are safe.

No mater how you spin it. If if patient 0 was not allowed to enter the USA. Two nurses would not have ebola right now.

  6. OP, a number of people (myself included) have asked why you don't just log into your RC account and check your cabin number. You are D+ so must be familiar with this.

We were upgraded earlier this year without any contact and I only found out when I logged in to my account 10 days from our sailing. Just log into your account and your cabin number will be listed - if it's the same as it was you haven't been upgraded if it's different (and an upgrade!) you have.

    Simple :)

Like I posted before. I have logged in to "my cruises" and nothing has changed. At this time.

But as I also stated I have changed cabins many times and sometimes they update it right away other times it takes almost 2 weeks to get the correct info.

To the poster that just picks the "cabin they want". Great for you.

I book the cheapest cabin I'll be comfortable with. Then if another deal comes up Ill change cabins. This cruise (7 night western) we got for 299 pp.

  7. You're way more trusting and less of a worrier than I am! You do realize this is RCI's IT Department you're talking about, don't you? I think you need to check your reservation, then get on the phone to confirm whatever you see or don't see on your "My Cruises" page!

It's not a matter of worrying. A couple of years ago. We were on a cruise and in the middle of the first night our toilet started erupting like Mt Vesuvius. It overflowed on the rug in the cabin And it was wet for half the cabin. They stopped the running toilet (it wasn't stopped up just something else wrong) The next morning they came back and due to the wet rug moved us from a balcony to a JS. Even though they said they were sold out.

If we have the cabin we booked fine, if not they can upgrade us. Or if they mistakenly canceled I'm sure there will be some Royal perks in store. We will be half way to "pineapple" soon I'm sure they won't want to upset us.

  8. I'm just going to let it ride. I know that Royal internet has changed dates when you click on them. I always double check. I even had a loyalty ambassador. make a reservation for 2 cabins for my wife, myself and my MIL and it was the same ship but 2 different sail dates. No problem because I just booked to use as a nextcruise.

I will call them a week or so before the cruise. I'm retired and if they were to mistakenly cancel it would not be a big thing. No airfare involved. I'm sure Royal will do the right thing.

The cabin we have booked has not been on the available list since yesterday. So either they caught their mistake or we will get an upgrade. No problem either way.

  9. Doesn't sound like an upgrade, more like they cancelled your reservation? I would call ASAP..

Paid in full. They better have not canceled it. I don't see the cabin up anymore. But someone could have put it on hold.

I'm not going to call them. I've kept my part of the agreement (paid in full). The ball is in their court.

I remember our last cruise someone had booked an OV guarantee. They gave them an inside and a paltry sum of onboard credit. They said there was nothing they could do, they didn't allow the person to cancel without penalty. Upon arriving at the ship a balcony magically appeared.

  10. Just checking on our Nov 22 reservation. (doing a ghost booking to check the price). And I noticed that the cabin we had booked was available.

So I guess the upgrade fairy has struck. We got no notice from Royal yet. But if they rebook our cabin , they'll have to put us somewhere. For the price we paid maybe they are expecting us to sleep in a lifeboat.

  11. What changes are you talking about? I've done five one way flights throught Choice Air, and I've always changed seats, as well as upgrading to say an exit row seat through the airline. Once you get yor airline booking number, go to that airline and do whatever you want. All changes to the cruise is done through my travel agent, at no extra cost.

I book direct with Royal. The changes I was talking about were cabin changes.

  12. Chops has changed a lot since they first introduced it. In the beginning they brought out the cuts of meat and you picked out what you wanted.

It was top notch. Like a Ruth Chris. And it was $20

Now it's a similar to an Outback and it's $35.

Even with the D+ first night discount I don't think it's worth it. I have a steak in Giovanni's much better than Chops and cheaper.

  13. I booked Choice Air. And they told me insurance wasn't available. But if I had to cancel they would keep $175 and refund the rest.

It has been a hassle changing categories Choice Air has to do the changes, even though it is on the same ship and sail date.

  14. One way I've found to add up points quicker. Is that when we cruise my MIL usually comes with us, in her own cabin. I'm now booking her with my wife, and taking the single myself. When on board we will just switch cabins I usually get them next to each other. This way I get the double points If I get to 340 I can get the single supplement of 150% for her. I am presently at 303 points, my MIL has 273. Another perk might be the crystal blocks. Now my wife and I just get one. If we have different points we might get one each.
