  1. I don't understand why people believe any promotion, but especially the various BOGO promotions are "deceptive" or "bait and switch"? RCCL uses the promotion price on the website as the first price people see so it is easy to compare bottom line prices if that is what people are doing. Click on the price detail and one can easily see the full price less the promotion savings. Pretty simple.

If one decides to compare what they paid with someone on the same curise in the same category you are only asking for aggrevation IMHO.

I booked an Oasis curise in a Jr Suite halfway through the first BOGO promotion and I paid approximately the same per person for 3 of us to cruise as I paid for an Allure cruise for 2 last November. I am absolutely positive I paid more per person than others who booked the same cruise in a Jr Suite at the beginning of the BOGO promotion or even before. But I am also very certain I paid less that somone who was booked this same curise since. Bottom line is I booked a cruise at a price I was comfortable with at what I believe to be a good deal, and did so without thinking once RCCL was being "underhanded" in their pricing.

To help you understand. Do a ghost booking for the Oasis Jan 31, 2015 category C1 balcony. First try it with the bogoho. Then try it as a Georgia resident (most other states work also) or as a senior.

    Then you will understand.

The bogoho is $2106. the resident, senior etc. $1892

  2. On a recent cruise. At breakfast we were talking to our next door neighbors (same cabin class) They bragged about the bogoho sale and how well they did. I mentioned what we paid and coffee came out of his nose. He was not a happy camper after that. They were first time (maybe last time) cruisers. I explained that the fares are treated like airlines, but he was uspet with the "bait and switch" tactics.

  3. We looked at that (as well as the 1/31 sailing) but I think I'm going to wait until the 3rd/4th person free sale ends. It's just DH and me and I honestly think we'll find better pricing after the sale and closer to sail date.

We got a C1 for $827PP plus taxes etc. before the balcony discount. The lowest I've ever seen an Oasis balcony was $799.

  4. Must have been an error. We are D+ and were on the Enchantment a week ago and got the cookies.

Not really a big deal. But they also don't give casino royal tee shirts or trophies to the winners of the blackjack tournament, They gave out plain dinner rolls in the diamond departure lounge (no butter or jam to be found) .

We had a great time thanks to the cruise director and staff. Our stateroom attendant did a fantastic job. The ship was clean.

But everything else was not up to par.

Don't know if it's fleetwide but in chops we had the shrimp cocktail and they gave us 3 huge (freshwater) shrimp. They were dry and tasteless. The sides were not what we had in the past (order one and share) they were very small portions. We had to ask for more. Even the desserts were not what we were used to.

  5. $109 is a bargain and who in their right mind would have taken out insurance. If they drive to port it's a really cheap weekend no where near your estimate.

All that aside it's outrageous that taking a GTY is not a GTY. I also think that the OP might have been offered a refund but didn't want it because it was such a cheap cruise and RCL won't change the date because the following week might cost a whole lot more. RCL is essentially giving them the cruise for free but the OP might not want a free cruise in an inside cabin, I know I wouldn't.

RCL has lost credibility when they don't honor their contract and is concern for worry to anyone who takes a GTY.

As far as your remark about right mind and insurance. Anyone that doesn't get insurance Doesn't use their mind correctly. Insurance is $29 pp for that cruise.

If something happens and you need to be flown home in an air ambulance. If you are sick they put you off the ship. And that plane ride is about $25,000 No insurance you will pay. On another note if your luggage gets lost you buy new clothes and they reimburse you. It's not just protecting your fare.

  6. I really feel for the OP on this one. I booked this cruise at the same time as they did. And decided to go for an inside close the the elevator rather that an assigned OV. It would be me along with the OP if they didn't have the cabin I picked. We have used guarantees before and were satisfied.

But what royal is offering is not acceptable.

I would board and go directly to the LA. And the hotel director, after making noise when getting seapasses.

  7. Hi. I have a SI (studio interior/single occupancy) guarantee booked on the Quantum, for my MIL All the SI's are close to the elevators, but on various decks (2 per deck)

I understand the way the guarantee system works on the other ships. You book an interior or an ocean view guarantee and you can be assigned any cabin in the class or above.

But when you book a guarantee for a specific class of cabin. I am thinking they will assign a cabin in that class, just the cabin number is left to be assigned.

    Am I right?

  8. We recently wanted to change our cabin category for our upcoming Quantum cruise. There was a D3 that was in a location I liked. So I called C&A to change they told me that the D3's were for 3 or more passengers. And that I couldn't make the change. I would have told them to cancel the booking, but we purchased choice air.

I told them that I could make the booking online for 2 people in a D3. After talking to her supervisor. She told me to put it on hold and they would make the change. I did and they did.

I understand their reasoning but when you can book it online but not on the phone. It is unacceptable.

  9. A few years ago my wife brought back a $100 bill from the casino. She put it on the desk. After going to breakfast she looked for it and it was not there. She (and I) were sure it had to be taken by the room attendant. She wanted to call security, but I told her "you don't leave money out like that". And that that would be his tip, no extra.

The last night as we emptied the drawers (that she had looked through). We found the bill. I was so happy we didn't call anyone.

  10. Unfortunately Royal's pricing has changed. To not giving "low" prices. Till after final payment date. It makes it hard for those that have to use air to get to the ports. Those that drive (like me) can wait for the reduced fares.

We booked an Oasis cruise for January 2015 while onboard our last cruise fully thinking that we would be changing it (and we did). Still looking at going on that cruise but will wait till last minute to rebook.

  11. That makes booking onboard our cruise next week a little more tempting. I assume, like Celebrity, that the deposit is refundable if we changed our mind and wanted to cancel, or moveable to another sailing?

Oh, and thank you for this answer and the drydock anwser. ;)

rolloman - If you just booked, you got a pretty good deal on your stateroom, already :) There are a bunch of us on that sailing. Come join us on the RC. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=43856760&posted=1#post43856760

You can only change to another ship once. And still get OBC. Cabin or category changes are allowed. So far I have made 5 changes.
