  2. Me again and I need more help!

Just as a reminder, we are Australians travelling to Vancouver (stopover at LAX) for an Alaskan B2B starting and ending in Vancouver and flying out from Vancouver (again with a stopover at LAX).

Now I have applied for our ESTA's and I am confused about one question where they ask if we are in transit and I answered yes. I assume we are in transit as we have no accommodation or contact details for the US that they ask for if we answer no. Am I wrong? Was I supposed to say not in transit and write down the ships details?

No..if you are in transit in the US, then what you did is right.

  3. You can either reserve online or on boarding day...infact if you want you can reserve your table any time of the day before dinner that is. Or just walk in..

On our cruise, we asked for a table of 2 and the same section every night..when we tried to reserve a table earlier, they told us it was full and they usually put people who reserve their table on boarding day the same time every night..so that pose a problem so we had to come at 8.30pm every night. We had to abandon the MDR one night because of the Ice show we had at 8.30pm

However, there was a couple of nights when we decided to eat early. We showed up but they said they were full. But gave us a pager and told us to come back when the pager rang. They also told us that the table we were getting was having desert and it should not be long.

We had a wait for about 15mins or so for each night we did not make a reservation. This was after the first show at around 7.40pm. The last night was at 6.pm.

  4. I am confused as to why you thought it was a good idea. They let your soda go through, right?

The call out may have been because they thought you had booze - not water or soda.

I only had One bottle of coke...maybe it is because I only had one..that is why they let me through. Maybe if I had 6 pack or a 12 pack, the story might be a little different considering that called out for one bottle.

Maybe you are right..they thought it was booze..but I won't take any chances.

  5. Hi Im a newbie too

    Here's what I did

Arrive at the terminal early (10am)

They sent you to the early bird line and you are on board at 11am (Say Bye to the late-comers as you step onboard the ship)

Head to the buffet so you can have a seat and lunch as it is not too crowded

Enjoy...if you feel like it you can explore the ship

Cabins open at 1pm, dump stuff off. Settle any dinning issues

Then head for the pool immediatly! :D

I got this plan from here...and it worked perfectly.

  6. Just to add

Before our cruise on the Indy, i debated whether to bring water/soda onboard and finally i decided to stick with the rules and purchase the Evian package 24 bottles in total.

On boarding day, I realized it was good idea that I stuck to the rules. My bag went through the X-ray and the lady called it out. She mentioned to another officer that it was soda. She brought my bag to the table and begin searching it, only to find a glass bottle filled with Coke. (sealed). She let me pass after that.

  7. Thank you for confirming my suspicion about RCL Mariner Of the Seas in Asia. I knew it was going to be different, i knew the shops were changed to meet the market.I knew the casino was terrible.. But i never knew it was that bad..really bad.

This is why i will never sail RCL in this region, mind you, I'm from Asia. I will rather pay the extra to fly to the USA to experience something more close to RCL. I enjoyed my time there, wonderful service on the Indy and can't wait to go back

  8. Hey Op...Sorry for the frustration, i will have break down even worse if it had been my cruise, even worse if it's my first

Anyway I do have to agree with the maintenance issue. During our cruise, we had a toilet clog.... I informed another attendant the issue..waited for 20 mins..nope no one..I called guest services, a while later. Nope not happening. Finally i went down to the guest service on deck 5, spoke with them and they radioed the maintenance guy.

He came a few mins later and fixed the toilet...an hour later, Guest service called my room and asked about the toilet(is it fix and workable)Its this ,which i felt appreciation of RCL doing their follow-up on cases and making sure its solved. Its frustrating but it got all sorted out in the end..we had to use the public toilets during this while, and stayed cleared of our cabin

  9. Well they could sort people into groups and call them out by time...so it would be faster (like the disembarking process) This is better than everyone getting pushed out of the ship at once. Oh the way...non us and Us queued together..

Maybe this was because it was a carribean cruise...but it doesnt make sense we went to different countries before coming back..so......

It took us 15 mins to leave the ship and out of the building and it was a full one..(the queue was fast and easy).

  10. Passengers in my Feb cruise are more international. The Nov one has lots of China n Korean nationals.

Btw, I realized that for the same cruise, price at the international RC website is cheaper than the .sg RC website. Way faster too..

And not forgetting that the international website has a discount for over 55years of age rather than the Singapore website. This is confusing as isn't Royal Carribean website suppose to be the same throughout the countries? And it is also easy to navigate in terms of cabin location(map),sign in to cruise planner for the international website

  11. We have a 7-2pm port stop too... To me I feel it's not enough and will like a longer port stop to be able to see more things...

But on the other hand, if we love San Juan..We could always fly there and stay for a couple of days. Or return again on a cruise and see the other part of the city (new san juan)..

Btw we have 3 days back to Fort lauderdale with Labadee in between..so maybe its a stop to replenish goods since its part of the US.

  12. Hi,

We have also experienced this on RCI, a cruiser we met on board gave us a tip, and it works. We have sailed 5 times using the tip and it has worked every time.

During checking in online, check the option to pay your account with cash. Do not give any card details at this stage.

When arriving at the pier, and handing over your set sail pass, the agent will confirm you wish to pay by cash for your onboard account. At this point simply say, I have changed my mind, please can I add my credit card to pay for my account instead?

She will then issue you with a very small contract to add your card details to and sign, you get a copy, she keeps one for the ship. There is a tick box at the bottom for either converting or to pay in USD.

You have your carbon copy of your agreement with RCI.

Enjoy your vacation with no hassle.

    :-)

Thank you for the tip... It's either this or we just pay in cash...Then on Day 2 and the 2nd last day we will go to GS and reconfirm again.

Btw Is there a minimum amount you need for cash?

  13. Edit...I notice its the perks...

Even though i did like the Indy to have freestyle machines, it won't break my cruise..

Thanks to the other reviews who said they had a good time on it.... there will be people who have a bad time and there will be people who have a good time :D I tend to stick to the positive reviews, so i won't be worrying all day before my cruise.
