I second The Harbor House. They usually have the 2 night minimum, but if you CALL the hotel, sometimes they wave that and sometimes you can get a cheaper rate also, depending on occupancy. The best thing is you can wake up and see your ship arrive in the morning, looking out your window.
Their breakfast is carb laden, with no meat or eggs. Mostly pastries and cereals.

The Coast Guard is now under Department of Homeland Security since 2003, before they were under Department of Transportation.
I'm sure all of the Security details are armed. When I was in, in the early 70's
we were never armed.
Things have changed a lot since then.
They usually escort cruise ships out of Galveston.

Thanks for the great review, we went a year ago, and we aregiving hard thought to do it again next May.
-
I would repost it there and try to delete this one , if that's possible, I don't know?
-
Post this in our roll call and you will get better response.

I'm not sure, but I don't believe you can take the White Pass Railroad in Skagway or get off the ship in Victoria, without a passport.

By the looks of his dates, he's posting about a cruise a year ago?

I've got reservations at
The Comfort Inn & Suites Texas City
320 Highway 146 North,
Texas City, TX, US, 77590
For September 24, 2016.
My rate was $85.50 complete with Taxes is $96.62
That is the senior rate, King bed suite. This hotel is about 15 miles and 15 minutes from the Galveston Port.
Fairly new, and clean and a pretty good breakfast.

We probably passed you, we were coming back to Arlington on Friday, while you were headed down to Galveston. And it was FLOODING. We went down there for a couple of days before Memorial Day, due to our grand-kids getting out of school earlier then most.
We stayed at the Harbor House, and DID use the nice pool at the Galvez.

I was there yesterday when she left port. Kinda surprised she was escorted by 2 USCG boats. Here is a video I took of her departure. Notice the Tugboat pulling her away. I muted the audio, as I had my 6 yr old grandson asking a lot of questions.

What does a citrus quarantine involve? I'm curious because I had a drink with GENEROUS lime wedges in a Texas bar the night before the cruise. So evidently land-based bars can serve limes??? (color me CONFUSED!)
Judy
Your right, those Limes were in the bar were NOT leaving the state. Texas citrus trees are combating a bacterial disease called Citrus Canker. Texas is at risk of losing ALL of it's citrus trees because of it.

According to the broadcast media Galveston is flooded.
What about according to Cruise Critic posters in the know. :) Is it flooded? Is the weather impacting any cruises?
According to the webcams it looks really nice.

Thanks for posting this! I was a bit concerned about the timing of getting back to the ship. I wanted a longer flight with a lake landing, but we were happy there was still something available. I'm assuming that the final landing is on the lake, right?
I wouldn't call it the lake. It is Ketchikan Harbor, we actually landed right next to the Solstice. Their dock is right next to the cruise pier.
-
Yes, they respond quickly and are very helpful!
That is the trip we took last year, the 1 hr from 2-3 and it was great. Your flying the whole time, without landing on the lake . We had plenty of time making it back to the ship before departure.
-
If I could only do 1, it would be a float-plane trip in Ketchikan with Michelle and Island Wings.
Probably the longest for your money would be the Railroad in Skagway.
Here's a couple of videos I did exactly 1 year ago today.

On my September cruise my TA was $500 less then Royals, plus my TA gave me OBC and a small perk package, where Royal was offering no extra's. I'm sure my TA had a block of rooms, as several days later they were sold out and Royal still had lots of rooms left. Now my TA shows rooms available, but at same price as Royal's.

What's the best way to get to the airport if using this service? Our flight is at 1:45pm and we either want to hang around on board until they kick us off or get off early and do some more sightseeing before heading to the airport around 11:00ish. We don't really want to sit at the airport much longer than we have to before a five hour flight home.
We used Shuttle Express, it was $22 a person to the Airport. We made a reservation, but they have shuttles at the port, and when 1 gets several people on it, it leaves and another pulls up.
-
Great!! Thank you .... my flight is on Southwest out of Seattle at 12:45. I love this service so am so glad we won't be precluded from using it.
AND our luggage was the very 1st to make it to the luggage carousel in Dallas.

Also remember that Alaska is USA, and your phone will work in all US ports, just like at home, but not at sea on the ship. If you go to Vancouver or Victoria, it is expensive.
-
If you have AT&T then check into their Cellular at Sea program. We've used it several times and it works excellent.
