Hi There: Looks like we're on the same cruise. I purchased that "Quench" package and looking forward to it..... I'll have at least a couple of speciality coffee's to kick-start my day, and at least one or two of the "mocktails" (loved them last time I was on HAL) and the bottle of Pellegrino with my meal..... (and conveniently, my room is very, very close to the Explorations Café....)

  2. SIGNATURE PACKAGES PRICING FOR THE PACKAGES LISTED BELOW VARIES BASED ON THE LENGTH OF THE ITINERARY. PLEASE CALL US AT 1-800-541-1576 (U.S. AND CANADA) OR VISIT OUR WEBSITE AT HOLLANDAMERICA.COM FOR PRICING.

Quench Beverage Package — enjoy unlimited mocktails, juices, bottled water, $20.64 per person, per day Explorations Café Beverages and sodas. This includes a souvenir cup that you can take home. Plus on ms Koningsdam, you get a Freestyle Coca-Cola cup to enjoy 100+ refreshing Coca-Cola flavors. Package must be purchased for the duration of the voyage

The above is a cut and paste from the HAL website. I believe the $20.64 amount includes the 15% service/tip/gratuity fee as well.

I know that I'll have at least a couple of the speciality coffees in the morning (the place where that is available is only a couple of doors away from my stateroom) and I know I enjoyed what I call a "slushie" at least a couple of times a day from the Pool bar (and I believe I paid around $4.50 for the non-alcoholic ones a couple of years ago). I will know in about two weeks how it works out - but at least it's pre-paid so the convenience alone is worth some to me.

  3. Yes - they have the pop package -- I believe it was around $8.00.

I have ordered the "Quench" package for my upcoming cruise - I think I paid $17.95/day and it includes pop, water, speciality water (fizzy water like maybe Perrier or San Pellegrino?)), mocktails, juices and speciality coffees.

I thought that the price was quite reasonable considering all that it included. I estimate you would need to order maybe 4 things a day to break even. I didn't notice a limit on how many drinks you could get a day, but it does not include anything from the mini-bar in your room or drinks at Half Moon Cay.

I would post a link for you but I'm not the most computer savvy person...maybe a fellow poster will know how to do it.

  4. Thanks everyone for your help so far. If the balcony is like room 10005 on the European I'm happy....looks to be about same size as one I had on Carnival...... as long as I can sit out, sip a coffee and do my puzzle book I'm good!

But...if anyone has a link to the Zuiderdam ones or photo, that would be even better because I would know for sure. The view doing the canal should be excellent from up there.

  5. Can anyone provide information on the balcony size (and/or provide photos) for the Observation (Deck 10) cabins?

I read somewhere yesterday (and I can't seem to find it now) that they are very tiny and are "Juliette" style (which to me means the door opens and that's it). I read somewhere else that they still have the 2 chairs and a small table and are about the size of a typical balcony on Carnival or NCL.

  6.

I've already scoped out the rooms showing available and marked them on copies

of the deck plans . Not that it really matters in the long run but makes me feel better;)

Happy October 25th Hues of Blue - I just check the HAL pages and I got my cabin assignment sometime in the last 3 hours. Was at a balcony guarantee and managed to score a VB category!. Happy, happy, happy dance.....

  7. When I was a child on the SS Uganda I couldn't stand the movement and as an adult cruiser I was apprehensive, but then decided I wouldn't give in to it and would block it out of my mind.

As a teen, I was on the Uganda's sister ship, the Nevassa.......the Adriatic in November did me in for years of cruising......but ships were smaller, and without the stabilizers etc they have now...... and I totally understand what those ships were like....

Have cruised a couple of times since without issue.....I think the trick is to get something into you BEFORE you even start to feel woozie ... I think maybe once the process has started in the body, it's harder to reverse than prevent.... (but everyone body is different for sure..... my friend insists if you carry a rock in your pocket you won't get sick....and it works for her)

  8. DH wasn't keen on cruising but I finally talked him into it for a 2016 sailing on the Liberty. Embarkation day in San Juan I felt like was dragging a somewhat reluctant toddler that had somehow resigned himself that he had better obey mommy and go where he was told.

Fast forward to a few hours after embarkation and we hadn't set sail yet.....we had a Guys burger. He announced how he likes cruise ships and would do another cruise someday......so yes, the burgers are good - in more ways than one. Thanks Guy's.

  9. Bucket list completed.......Maho Beach in St Martin, Istanbul

Bucket list coming soon...Panama Canal in Nov '17

Big big bucket wish.....west coast to Hawaii, Tahiti and to Australia.....the one that crosses both Equator and the Date Line

  10. What the change was figured out in an earlier post, thanks for your input.

I'm sorry about that....when I was looking on my device I was only seeing up to the post I quoted. I now see (now on different device) there were several posts in between my response and what I quoted which clarified the situation..not sure why they didn't show up.

  11. This sounds very strange. Cities have no authority here to make regulations about driving, that is a provincial responsibility.

I'm also guessing you are going to Saint John, NB not St John's NFLD.

Cities DO and CAN make regulations for driving taxi and other public conveyance. For example, a taxi in Fredericton can not be a vehicle more than 3 (or maybe 5) years old. I can't recall which city here has a rule drivers must wear a shirt with a collar...... My guess is Saint John has decided to "regulate" the industry to create a revenue stream or has classified the private tours as taxi...which has its own rules, regulations and of course....a fee once a driver or company meets all their expensive "licencing" criteria. They need the $$$ for city coffers. (I was born and brought up there so I this does not surprise me.)

I doubt that your tour you booked was shady.....I suspect that there has been a lot of bureaucratic red tape that has been suddenly added not giving providers enough time to get their ducks in a row before your arrival.

  12. I just checked online to see what rooms are still available and the prices have tripled since yesterday with many suites and higher level balcony rooms available. With 21 days to go the excitement of where we will end up is building.....maybe I need to get the suitcases out to distract myself;)

    Sherri

SORT of like the excitement of building up to Christmas Eve..... you know that you WILL get a present, but the question is of what's IN the package..... and I have my suitcase out and starting to put odds and ends into it..... I will pack and repack about 5 times..... it's part of the ritual :D:D:D:D as we are both after balcony guarantees, wonder who will "win" the competition....ha ha
