  1. To all our CC family in harm's way, please let us know you are safe! We are keeping you all in our hearts and prayers. m--

My thoughts exactly.....we will probably get the left-overs about this time next week.....but more concerned for those who have been evacuated or in the storm's way and that are going to be affected in the next couple of days. Please stay as safe as you can.....

  2. I did look at their site on-line. Liked some of the things but they don't ship outside US - so I can't pre-order. And....to top it all off, the only flight that we could get before our cruise doesn't get us into FLL until after 8:00 at night.... Maybe if I got up early in the morning and went and got back to hotel and packed really quick..... ever hopeful....

I really appreciate all your suggestions and have fingers (and toes and eyes) crossed that I can get there before sailing.....

  3. Thanks for your quick reply......- we realize that it will be double the hold (in our case $1200) ... just not sure how it works when 2 people are using the same credit card....but in the end paying their share separately.....(i.e. one will owe the other their expenses). I just can't imagine trying to keep track of all those little slips they give you....so was hoping their was an "easy" way ;p

  4. Quick question about the shipboard account statement.

Previously on HAL I cruised with a friend so our "key cards" were each linked to our own individual credit cards.

There are two of us that may be using the same credit card on our upcoming cruise...

So, does each person get their own statement based on what was against their key card? or.....

If it appears all one one statement, is there a way to tell who's key card was used?

We were thinking this might be a work-around to keep the ship board charges and the $60.00 hold for both all on one card, and keep the other for any shore expenditures.

As always, thanks in advance as I know someone out there will have the answer :)

  5. In 2016 when I was on the Carnival Liberty, there was a "social media" package which I believe I paid $35.00 for the entire 7 day cruise.

I'm a bit surprised that HAL (which is considered a more upscale/expensive line) wouldn't have the same thing as they are both owned by Carnival.

  6. LONG STORY SHORT....I have lost weight since last cruise and over the summer. Hoping to take a cruise out of FLL in November.

Went clothes shopping yesterday and everywhere is filled with winter clothing....nothing summer or cruise suitable in sight. Everything is light black or dark black;p and Winter weight/wool blends. Depressing looking stuff to say the least,

As I am still on the weight loss train (and hoping there's no derailment) I am looking for inexpensive clothing to tie me over should I cruise.

So...the question is.....does Wal-Mart, Target etc in FLL carry summer weight/look clothing given the fact it's FLORIDA weather instead of 2 feet of snow? If so, I could zip over to a local store the day before when I fly in. I've been to Florida several times during the fall and winter but never went shopping so no idea what could be available.

I'm still in the "fluffy" size range (plus sizes) but perhaps if anyone knows (or are out and about shopping) they could check and let me know.

  7. I have been looking but keep finding older information (or going in loops using different search terms).

Does HAL have a "social media package" for Face Book/Messenger similar to that of the sister line Carnival? I believe I paid something like $25 or $35 for a 7 day cruise but was limited to just a few social media sites.

I have found some older posts that have pricing which is way too expensive for my requirements, and I did find one older post where they were testing it on one of the ships.

I just basically need to check into home once or twice a day to see how things are going while I'm away..... don't need internet browsing or anything like that.

  8. Posting this here on this board but this is about fall cruising in general.....

What type of weather can be expected and sea heights? (with the exception of hurricanes of course). Are there places/areas that are better than others for nicer weather at that time of year? How about water temperatures for beach swimming?

Looking at late October or November (only because there's less chance of a hurricane) but I do realize the ships avoid the storms, change ports, etc. Just don't want 7 days of rain or not being able to enjoy a beach or two.

Looking to cruise - 7 to 14 days....

For cruises out of New York....I suspect the sailing may be quite choppy enroute to the Caribbean - anyone who has done this willing to comment?

I'm not afraid of the odd movement of the ship or anything, but don't want to be on a rough ride for days that isn't enjoyable or really poor weather where all I get to see of the ports is wet feet and the underside of an umbrella.

  9. Sort of scary when some of us pay just as much in airfare (not counting hotel a day or two before) as the cost of the cruise - and with a TA or repositioning the extra air cost because it is not a round-trip ticket. Never occurred to me before that they could bump you this close to sailing date..... even if another cruise was offered it the pre-booked air, etc didn't work it would result in a lot of $$ lost or extra fees to change what is probably non-refundable air tickets. We always get insurance but you never know what they will try to do to weasel out of paying.....

  10. Sailed to Bermuda in May 2015 from Boston on the HAL Veendam (smaller ship that can actually dock in downtown Hamilton which is centrally located near the main bus terminal and ferry docks instead of way up at one end of the island). There were a handful of kids aboard but very, very well behaved and we only saw them at meal times at the Lido deck. The weather was warm and we spent the better part of one day at the beach. The ship arrives on Monday at noon-ish and leaves Thursday at noon. It's basically your floating hotel at what I feel is a much more convenient dock on the island than out at the Dockyard. Hope you enjoy Bermuda....I loved it. (should add that any kids or spring-breakers (if there were any) were all part of a family group with the Grammies and Grampies, etc.... )

  11. Wow - just wow. Have been silently following this ... I would seriously be in a straight-jacket by now if I were you......

I so wish you could give the name of the parent company of the TA - but you probably can't on here.... not that I was overly interested until I heard about their responses to you - I wouldn't want to engage with a TA with only having that parent company to fall back on incase of problems.

As far as your TA saying that she was making payment using her own credit card, blah blah blah..... (which was probably a stall tactic)..... Sounds like a cat in a litter box - going to throw some sand over the s**t to hide it and keep the stink down for a few days but all the while digging another hole....

Please keep us updated when you successfully get your refund back.... it should NEVER have taken this long to resolve - if they can take it in a day or two, surely they can refund in a day or two.

  12. I don't think you will see if on HAL anytime soon.....HAL is a level above the Carnival cruises.

The previous poster that indicated they noticed some Carnival staff that wore different uniforms than their room steward - I am guessing it's due to the cut backs in room stewards so they are pulling bar staff etc to assist them when twice a day service is requested by several cruisers? Just a guess......

Someone mentioned that if HAL started the cut backs, that they would move to Celebrity....I'm guessing they are pretty well on par with each other such as service, etc so it probably wouldn't be long before similar level-of-service lines come up with similar cut backs... As an example - look at Norwegian last year implementing the room delivery service charge 24/7 and people said they would start sailing RCL because of it - but this week RCL announced a similar service charge. Probably won't be long before Carnival follows along.......

  13. people who talk loud, like they are the only one on the ship... in the theatre, on their balconies etc. Similar to people talking on cell phones in public areas... like we want to listen to their conversation?

Another one, is when you are waiting in line at the front desk, i.e., the elite line, and someone cuts in front of you. I had this happen on my last cruise on the last day, even the lady at the desk told the man, I was next but he simply refused to accept it because he was standing in the other line, finally I just told her to help him because he was interrupting us. I could not believe it, did tell him he was not gentleman!!

I am probably guilty of speaking too loud....when you live with two very hard-of-hearing people, it just becomes habit having to speak loudly (and then have to repeat 50% of what you said). Honest - in our family it's not intentional to be that way.....but I do try to be mindful of it..... Usually I can tell who is being loud "just to be heard about how important they are"...

  14. For me I find it ironic that next year I will not be going to Disney World for the first time in years and sailing with NCL on the Escape next May. I(and many Disney fans) have been saying the same thing about WDW the last several years with it's many cutbacks, cutting corners, increasing costs, it's "nickle & diming," and wishing it would start adding value again. :)

Us too. Last 2 vacations have been cruises........

  15. Would suspect that what you have to do at Key West would be determined by your cruise/order of the ports. If its anything like Canada you have to clear customs at the 1st port of entry after visiting another country So probably PR and USVI are considered US ports so thats why someone said St Thomas was difficult but Miami was easy...because St Thomas was 1st stop back in a US Territory????? So if you go to PR, St Thomas or Key West 1st on your cruise theres no customs.......???? Seems like a logical explanation but thwn again my brain has been known to wander sometimes.....

  16. Ok......I'm a bit lost. Cruised twice in the past year and a half.....once out of Boston and once out of San Juan. I'm not a US citizen (Canadian) but they didnt finger print us. US customs came aboard the ship in Boston to clear non-US citizens. In San Juan we were just in a line - dont recall one for non-US. Have things changed since February??? Or is it certain ports? Or was it because we were flying or driving back to Canada the same day???? (As I look at my fingers and wonder if I've been doing too much cleaning.... )
