  1. I will upload a photo when I get home, but the pullman is over the bed, directly over our pillows. My 15 year old daughter slept in it and said it was "fine", whatever that means. Our first night sleeping the wife and I thought...if her bed breaks, our heads will be smashed in and we'll probably die. But that's why they have drink package...
  2. Maybe this helps, maybe it doesn't, but I've been in I-5125 on the Koningsdam on disembarkation day. I was in A5127 across the hall. The folks in 5125 had a baby, and I only heard it when one of our doors were opened. Anyway, I peaked in because I'm nosy and it was really nice. A sofa on the right side of the bed as you open the door, bathroom on the left. Don't know about elevator noise but in 5127 I never heard them once.
  3. Probably the same ***** who made the teens stop bouncing the basketball. Get off my lawn!
  4. Yes, the crafty Canadians get you here. For 2 adults, 2 teens: US $26.83 to go from YVR to Canada Place. Return only cost US $8.01.
  5. I'm not sure why everybody isn't disclosing their "preferred" cruise line, but I can tell you that HAL prices for summer 2023 are substantially higher than summer 2022 prices.
  6. Shiner, what were the dates of your cruise? I was on the 25 June sailing with my two teens, and the only feedback they disclosed was there were between 50-100 kids total on the ship. My kids weren't bored, but I can guarantee you they only said that because they had each other to keep themselves company. I agree with your assessment that teens definitely should make every attempt to befriend somebody as early as they can on the cruise (since as you said teens only meet in the HAL Club for an hour once a day on port days, twice a day on sea days...unlike the younger kids who can hang out in Club HAL all day).
  7. Just in case I was unclear...I'm saying MartinCath is correct and YVRteacher is wrong.
  8. I hardly ever see Gastineau Guiding mentioned, but I thoroughly enjoyed their excursion. 14 pax on a 28 pax boat. I left a 5-star review on TripAdvisor...and if you look at the website they average 5 stars.
  9. 12 sailings to Alaska and yet still this misinformation.... Listen to MartinCath.
  10. Not sure why this is even a debate. Bug spray is like trip insurance. You might not need it, but then again, you might regret not bringing it. Mosquitos are like Covid - some people get it multiple times, some have bad symptoms, others never get it or at least never know they got it. It's all about risk tolerance - YMMV.
  11. I accepted a "free" upgrade from VB4154 to Vista Suite 5127. Since I never saw my VB, I can't compare it, but I really liked 5127. Mid-ship was certainly convenient, we didn't have storage issues even with 4 in the room (we are carry-on only people though). And maybe it was all in my head, but all our neighbors were Vista Suites...so it felt...more upscale.
  12. I was actually on this cruise, and heard thirdhand the number 1800. I was wondering if anybody actually knew the real number. The reason: it felt uncrowded yet not dead...so right in my comfort zone. I'm thinking of booking next summer, and was looking at the Eurodam first, but possibly the Koningsdam again. I've read that the Eurodam felt crowded this season, so I'm just wondering actual numbers to help gauge which ship I should choose. TIA.
  13. Loved our cruise on the Koningsdam last week enough that I’m looking at going next summer, perhaps on the Eurodam.
  14. We saw an old couple (the dude had oxygen tubes up his nose) with bathrobes in the Lido for breakfast on the Koningsdam a week ago. We found it off-putting, but I'm going to guess that they couldn't give a F what others thought.
  15. That’s what we used. No complaints.
  16. Thanks Torquer. Just looked at prices today and there's not any value for booking right now (comparing this 2022 prices) anyway, but just want to keep my options open.
  17. I know there are many experts in this forum, and so I thank you all in advance. I'm recently off our first ever cruise on the Koningsdam to Alaska. Timing for next summer has me back in the PAC NW, so the Volendam sailing dates would work out perfectly. Questions from research: the Volendam is already quite "old", and now that it's been housing folks all summer (that can't be good for wear and tear), and it doesn't look like they plan on a drydock (or do they?), would you go on the Volendam now? Secondly, I enjoyed the casual dress on the Koningsdam - would an Alaskan Volendam be more dressy, or would it be the same as the Koningsdam?
  18. I’m on the Koningsdam in Alaska now. I packed 2 long-sleeved button up shirts and 2 pairs of slacks. I was in the middle of the road as far as dressing up, and because I had the laundry package, I just wore the same thing on both gala nights because it is on Sunday and Wednesday. Wished I packed another pair of shorts and another t-shirt instead as one pair of slacks and one button-up shirt is plenty.
  19. Regarding the Libby App. My wife just downloaded an audio book in about 5 minutes from the MDR and we are in the open sea between Queen Charlotte and Vancouver Island. However, there’s no reason you shouldn’t download what you need from home.
  20. With many of the premium lines having big sales, was looking at a Greek Cruise for summer 2024. However, it doesn't appear the lines that are more suited to my style (HAL/Princess) do Greece very well (I think I'd be interested in doing an Athens roundtrip). Most of the internet says the luxury lines do Greece the best, but since I'd need two rooms (travelling with wife and two teen daughters), I'm only willing to spend one extremity. Any suggestions from folks who've done a Greek cruise? Is Celebrity's Greek Isles 7-day on the Infinity the best that I could do?
