  1. We have heard that Belize was unsafe for years, but on one of our cruises my husband and I walked out of the port area down through Belize City to the water taxi terminal, we were going to Caye Caulker. Everyone we met was friendly and courteous. Several asked us if we needed directions, we told them we were headed to the water taxi and knew where we were going (we had a map and it was easy to follow), but everyone pointed us in the right direction anyway! We never felt uncomfortable. Yes, it's a very poor area, but the friendliness was outstanding.

I also was there last Feb...

I completely agree. I even mentioned this about being there to my DW

I think all the locals get it. this boat thing can feed them all if they are not stupid..

ANYWHERE can be unsafe, if you are not careful and familiar w your surroundings.

liked it so much.. as u can see in my countdown clock..

heading back again next Feb.!! yea baby.. Cruis'in It's a state of mine.:D

  2. just got off the Fascination in Feb.

easily over a third of the cruisers were from P.R...

half could not speak English..(tried to speak small talk on the elevators/food lines)

All announcements were repeated in Spanish..

    the 11:30 comedy show.. Spanish

I got the feeling Carnival had to push tickets hard for this cruise, to fill it up...

did this same cruise two yrs earlier on the Liberty...

    completely different

Ship was "ok"... but will not be doing this run again, till they switch ships...sorry

For what I must pay...I want NICE

  3. Websites exist that will monitor fares for you an email you if they change. So you'll be able to make timely requests. It's prohibited to name names, but try googling. The site I use is free to browse, if you want it to monitor your sailing they charge $1 per sailing and then will monitor an unlimited number of cabin categories for that sailing. For me it's been accurate and was able to snag a price drop that existed for only a few hours. As a hint, the site is a little 'fish'y.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

found it! tks.. I just booked for next Feb.' 18.. lets see what it can do for me!:D

  4. My DH & I will be in St KItts for in first time in a couple weeks. We are looking for something similar to a past experience in Honduras. We made a reservation with a driver for a flat rate who drove us around all day & stayed with us/waited for us, gave us a historic tour while letting us choose where & how long we wanted to stay at each stop. Is there any such service there at an affordable price? Thank you in advance for recommendations.

I will be there, in about a week. I found Rose and Jim's taxi svc. on here over ten yrs ago.. have used them now 4 times, this will be 5 times.

Highly rec'md off here, and has always taken us anywhere we wanted to go. Rose knows everyone, so you will be taken care of. Hope this helps Chris :D

  5. for what its worth...

DW and I have a rule... first time on any Island, we try to see it, get the "flavor" of where we are.

We have done the turtles, outstanding, but you won't get to "see" the Island. which is just as amazing, and most tours end up at a beach in the end.

you will see so much more...hope this helps enjoy, I will be there in 9 days!!

    SSSOOO there people! :D

  6. I found Sunny on here(CC) 12 yrs ago. Asked what you asked, He came highly rec'md then, and have used Him 3 times since, and will be using Him again in 3 wks!

I highly rec'md him, and know we will have fun again this run!

    Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, too....

Song known by past Sunny trippers lol

He will not disappoint you! :D

  7. I have used Rose and Jim 2 times in the past, and am booked w them again in 3 weeks! Last time we got together w 18 people from off our rollcall to go. Rose has always given us a great tour, and will take you ANYWHERE you want to go. Truth is, not really that big of an Island, and not really that much for teenagers to see that they will find interesting.. mine just wanted beach's lol

although, Your Guys could be different, and really get into it!

She does seem to know everybody, and has gotten us into a few places that you wouldn't normally be allowed :)

I highly rec'md Them... and as I said, will be using them very shortly.

I will be taking my 76yr old MIL, and my 22yr old Autistic Daughter w us this cruise. I called her, and told her my needs/concerns.. no worries

Our day is planned...Hope this helps:)

  8. The bottom line....

    Things happen...sometimes not good.

You are away, in a foreign country,

where in the end, nobody cares about you.

If something should go wrong, your ONLY hope/help is that passport.

    period..

People buy trip insurance, so that if anything goes wrong, there are no problems

Why would you risk really SERIOUS problems.

All it takes is to read some of the horror posts on here to know...dont risk not having your PP (original is the ONLY one excepted-not copies) on you when you are on the Islands. Hopefully you will NEVER need to use it. But if you do, you will thank God you did! you are on Vacation...no worries wanted

Can't tell you how many times I watched our ship sail out of Port.. w people running to the ship, waving arms, screaming... :D

  9. Some bartenders are picky about it for sure, but not all of them. The key is to not ask to "buy one for yourself." You need to walk up and be buying for a friend. Most of the time they wont care and not ask. If they do ask, you can point in a general direction and say he is over there. If they continue pushing, just say he was just here, but your not sure where he went or you are meeting him in the comedy club or whatever. I have been flat turned down once. I have been sold probably 100 times though. It really helps if you go to someone who remembers you and you tip a dollar or so a drink.

    Ah, yes,....the tip...

find a bartender, and take care of him/her...

they will take care of you...that's after all, the reason why they are on the ship...

also, have backup (as mentioned) in your room.. I pre-order..takes care of the problem :D

  10. LOL...it is pretty easy to see who has experience in business or marketing and who doesn't. None of this is a mystery or a shot in the dark.

Carnival knows exactly what the drink per customer average is on Cheers guests down to a decimal. They can probably tell you a Cheers guest drinks on average 6.8 drinks per day. They will also break down what is consumed so they know their product cost. This stuff is known down to the cent, that is how you determine if you will make a profit, especially at that scale.

The 'everyone in the cabin must buy' and '15 drink limit' policies are to keep costs in check. They probably have a determined roughly what percentage of their guests who would share one package if possible. For each of those you lose the profit potential of two customers when judged by the average consumption. Instead of making profit each would not directly deduct from it. The 15 limit is probably near the break even point and eliminates those who are at the extreme end of the scale.

I bet they are trying to keep costs in check to keep the price point competitive. If you can't control costs you have to raise prices which brings a who different affordability formula in play.

This is why I love this site... clear answers to questions...you all have never let me down, when I need to know an answer..:D

  11. We are of the Jewish faith and would love to visit the Jewish Synagogue on Barbados. Is this included in any tours?

Can anyone recommend a good tour company of private taxi driver we can contact to help us tour the island. We are really not beach people so we do like to tour and see other attractions.

    Cheers

    Len

always found it interesting that almost every Island my DW and I visited in the past, no matter how small some were... always had a Synagogue! some, side by side w Church's..love history...:D

  12. Can anyone tell me what happened to no1sxm parasailing company.

I found them on Facebook, but the website info is no good.

There is a #... but also noticed there is nothing on here about them...

I got them off here 2 yrs ago.. was very happy..

Has anyone used them recently/still rec'md?

you all have never let me down..:D

  13. Yes, you can purchase a waterproof pouch which is worn around the neck. Bought mine thru Amazon. I tested it out in my sink at home to make sure it worked. I used it when I went snorkeling and it worked just fine.

DW used to smoke.. we use (still) her plastic water proof Cig. container, you can wear on a rope around your neck. it holds your $, cards, etc. costs is less than $5..

as for "valuables" on the beach... never bring anything you cant afford to lose.

and, we always make sure at least 1 person stays w the stuff at all times.

follow these simple rules, and you will enjoy your day...

21 days to go!!! soooo there people... :D

  14. We just got off Fascination out of PR 1/1/17. Both security checkpoint and baggage checks are upstairs, the only liquor store I saw was downstairs.

I am corrected... but still remember(more than 3 times/cruises) walking out of the store, sharp left...right into the entrance. and as long as you put it on the xray belt... you were let through.

at that point you made your way onto the ship gangway, up to the ship, swiped your card.. the table was usually down off to the side 20 ft away..and you were allowed to walk on.. no problems didnt need to hide it. The folks in the store told us, as long as it was kept in that bag, there would be no problems.

Could never get over it, from having sailed w Carnival out of other ports. (Miami, Tampa, FT.L, New Orleans) very strict. was never a smuggler.. but knew of many..lol . $100 for my Vodka through the ship.. $27-$35 in the store. So you see why I ask... Hate to buy it, and then find out I could have gotten it alot cheaper..(I"m not cheap!.. it"s the same dang bottle! lol)

again thanks for all updated info

Chris 41 days......toes in the water, a#@ in the sand....

  15. That I don't know for sure. It could be the security table was there for stuff that was already in someone's carryon and not something they had just purchased.

Pls..someone who has just been on the Fascination.. say, last 60 days,

leaving PR.. can you walk in the store, at the top of the steps, walk out right at the security ck point w your purchase. go through that last ck point.

proceed on to the ship, w your purchase. I have seen "the Table" but never in 3 past (heading on our 4th! yea) Southern Cruises, have I been told to "stop and drop" just greeted w smiles, and welcomes.

It really has saved me on having to purchase it through Carnival.. and they really have never said anything to anyone.. All the pass. were allowed to do this.

Thoughts have been on here...they own the Liquor store... so getting $ either way, to others thinking, we are in so many ports on this run, that not as much alcohol is consumed. So they are happy for any sales..

Dont no..dont care! was sweet! DW and I like a nice a nice Vodka and/or Rum for our trip. someone pls inform..THANKS! :D

  16. What company did you use last time?

That's the problem! I am a pack rat.. I always get cards, keep info on past cruises.. but agggh.. cannot find the card from the tour guide I used. I know it was one from off this board. I have always used guides from here.

it was perfect.. got us over to Mako before the crowds got in.. The Driver knew the plane schedule. Then took us over to a huge open air market.. Kids wanted T-shirts... Then off to Orient. I am traveling w my DW, my 22 yr old Autistic Daughter, and my 76 yr old MIL. This trip is for them, and really want them to see this Island. Once in a life time for my MIL..

    tks guys :)

  17. Looking for a Tour Company that will provide the following

I would like to Shop/Sight see, head over to Mako for "a bit",

then enjoy Orient Beach. Did this three yrs ago..was perfect.

All of you have never steered me wrong before :)

Also... anyone know what happened to SXM parasail?

    Cant seem to reach them...tks

  18. I can get you two out of three..

drinks at Cockleshell are I believe $3 for beer

might I suggest Jim and Rose Taxi.

DW and I have used them 3 times, will be using her again in Feb.

found her on here..trusted all of "us" on here w info..

and was not disappointed. Hope this helps :)
