Beware of knockoff's at SMM.

Downtown Miami is a business area.
The parking there, (close to the port) is geared toward 9-5 parking for those business, plus the occasional evening events.
-
There are no hotels within walking distance of either Hollywood or Fort Lauderdale Amtrak stations.
Fort Lauderdale (Broward Blvd) is convient to Fort Lauderdale Beach.
Hollywood is convient to Hollywood beach.
Taxi's are usually at each train station when Amtrak trains arrive.
-
FLL and MIA have free shuttles to/from the airport and the train station.
The train is two steps up to board.
MIA is seamless, terminal to train.
This beats traveling on I95.

While ship is in port Everglades, I did book a cruise (Costa Med.), I was on the ship the previous week.
But, that was 2006.
I have booked via telephone travel agent, 5pm, the day before sailing.
That was 2012, NCL Sky, three night cruise.

Where is the hotel?
Via I595 to I95, its 11 miles to Hallandale Beach Blvd. and I 95. 20 to 25 minutes.
To get the the beach, from I 95 its another 20-25minutes, there is a lot of traffic on Hall. Bch. Blv. during the tourist season.
Or you could take US 1 south from the airport, 7 miles and probally 20-25 minutes.

Yes those uber jags park anywhere they want.
Easpcially MIA and POM

Its easy and comfortable.
Tri rail is $5pp on weekends.
Take Tri rail to the Metro Rail transfer station.
Metro Rail is $2.25pp.
Ride the Metro Rail to the Government Center station.
Now, Metro Mover, (free) will get you to Biscayne Blvd.
You can find a taxi for the 1 mile ride into the port or take a taxi from the Government Center station, 1.5 mile ride.
I have ridden Tri rail with two suitcases and Metro rail with two suitcases.
29" and a 21" bags.
Its not that complicated, its public transportation.

What fishy said, I have done it.

Gentlemen wear a well fitting pressed tux.
Leave your jacket on at all times as well as your tie.
Leave the over the top fashion looks for the ladies.
-
The beach is a better place to stay than State Road 84 and US 1.
Fort Laud. beach and Hollywood beach are better than HMC.
-
OP, if your coming all this way, there is no other place to stay than on the beach.

An all day pass is $5.65.
Its good on all buses and Metro rail.
Buy it on the bus.
Have the exact fare.
I'm not sure about a senior discount.

Just so you know it, Aventura Mall is much closer and much nicer.
19501 Biscayne Bl. (US 1)
Either mall, rent a car.
-
The Fort Lauderdale Greyhound station is 15 minutes from the port.
Three miles.
-
Doesn't Carnival have assigned times for boarding?
-
Fastest would be a taxi.
Taxis are waiting at the door of the terminal.
Limo, my family did that a few times, not always there on time, plus you don't always get the same limo and driver.
U, you will be looking for a car, the driver will be looking for a flower shirt.

I have booked a cruise a day before sailing.
Once the morning of the cruise, but that was through the cruise line, while waiting to get off the ship that I have just sailed on.
Delray has a trolly bus that runs up Atlantic Av. from the beach to the Tri-Rail station.
-
If you can be on the curb by 730, the ride to the airport is 25 mins.
-
RDM, If you are coming that great a distance, stay on the beach, my opinion the best hotel in South Florida is the Diplomat on Hollywood Beach.
You will not be disappointed.
Plus Gulfstream Park opens next week.

So chair hogs are not like "an army of pigmen".
Its just an apple, towel, book, sandal or a banana.
All which are useful to the chairs new occupant.

To NSW104: If you transfer to the Metro Mover from Metro rail at the government center station, Freedom tower station is the one to get off at.
Just make sure to get on the "Omni loop".
