  1. Thanks for the replies---- I certainly do not have money to burn- I just want to be reasonable-- Maybe $100 for room steward then, $100 to the main waiter then $50 to each wait staff person as we did eat outside of dining room---- will be reasonable.
  2. On Princess, we have had unusually good service from our wait staff and our room steward--- really nice people, hard working, and great service. Yes we have paid into the premier package, but we like to tip a bit extra in cash at end of cruise---- Does this sound right for the two of us? : $200 for room steward, $200 for main waiter, $100 for his assistant, $50 for manager, and $25 for the hostess? This is a 10 night cruise which ends in a couple of days. I certainly don't want to over or under tip. Any guidance on this would really be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Anita
  3. Startedwithamuse---- Did you hire the taxi in advance? Could you tell me who you used and how far in advance you hired the taxi? I'm getting all sorts of general responses but nothing specific, which is really frustrating. I did call one taxi company to find out information, and they didn't speak English, so I didn't get any where with that.
  4. I am trying to get information on how/where to meet taxi or uber at disembarkation at wharf 22 in Quebec---- Do we call for an uber at luggage area? Where then do we go to meet the driver. Or is there a taxi line and is it just easier to do that? I did check on private transportation and was told $250- no thank you. Is it better to pre arrange an uber the day before during the Thursday port day? Appreciate any advise from any one who has disembarked in quebec to get to their hotel after cruise. Thanks, Anita
  5. We will be disembarking off the Emerald at Quebec City on Sept. 27--- It says we will be at wharf 22---- Like you we will be staying in Quebec a couple of nights after cruise. For the first time, we plan on using uber after disembarking a cruise. I am trying to understand the procedure--- Do we wait until we have our baggage and call for an uber at the baggage area? Then where exactly do we wait for the uber driver? This is making me a little bit nervous, as we have always had a private driver pick us up after a cruise, which was arranged in advance. Anita
  6. Hi, we will be on the Emerald to Quebec where we are staying 2 extra nights before flying back home. I am trying to figure out where to meet uber driver to give us a ride to hotel after cruise. The ship will be at wharf 22----
  7. Thanks 3CanadianBears--- We have used Uber and have the apt--- I never used Uber for a pick up after a cruise. Normally I have pre arranged transportation---- For this cruise, we will be at wharf 22 next to old city. We will be staying two extra nights in Quebec City. It is too difficult for us to drag our luggage to the funicular, then walk the few blocks with our luggage to hotel. So I am trying to make use of our uber apt, if that is the easiest way to get from the ship to hotel. I'm just trying to understand where we are supposed to stand with our luggage to meet the driver. I did check out a private limo-- which wanted $250 for a 10? minute ride, so no thank you.
  8. I'm so glad I saw this topic. I just put together on the lanyards for my husband and myself the medallions. I couldn't figure out what to do with the blue clips, which we received two of them. I had to insert the round cardboard cut outs for the back of the medallions in order for it to stay in the clear holder that works with the lanyard. I couldn't figure out what the blue clips were for, so my plan was upon checking to ask if I managed to put the medalions together the right way.
  9. I'm trying to understand once you are off the ship with your luggage, where do you walk to to get into the uber? Once we have out luggage do we then call for uber?
  10. When off the ship how far a walk is it to spot where Uber does pick up? Is there a long wait if not pre arranged? I've never used Uber before for pick up after a cruise so please forgive my ignorance..
  11. I will be disembarking off a princess ship at I think wharf 22 in Quebec-- Heading to a hotel near the Frontenac--- Do I order an uber once I get off the ship and is there a designated spot for pick up? I normally prefer pre arranged transportation when getting off a cruise to avoid long waits on taxi lines. Should I pre arrange for an uber, -- not sure what to do. Thanks for any suggestions. Anita
  12. Thanks all. Then I am all set with boarding-- I didn't scroll down past the code box--- now I see the boarding time (cudos to JimmyV wIne!) I'll of course have my passport, etc. on hand--) Anita
  13. Hi all. I' leaving in 8 days for cruise and have the medallions. I'm trying to understand the new system for boarding. App says we are "green laned" for boarding and just have to show the bar code on the app. Does this replace the traditional edoc papers? (didn't receive any papers) Also, I still can't find any information of when to board the ship. (Late embarkation at 10:00 pm) I usually like to get to terminal around 10:30, so that I can enjoy lunch in the dining room. Thanks in advance for info. Anita
  14. Staff was wonderful. Ship is too big for us though. Food was very good all over- Entertainment was great We have been on the Jewel and Pride of America in regular balcony staterooms, which at he time was just fine for us. But I think if we did take another NCL cruise, we would do the spa cabin again, even though it was a bit of a schlep on Bliss to walk to Haven proper each time. I think on the smaller ships without the razzle and dazzle, may be the walk won't be as far. (If they have spa cabins?) The elevator "dance" was a bit much. "Once you go Haven, you don't go back" according to concierge--I think I agree with that. Anita
  15. Ok, just came back from cruise. we didn't stop by Haven restaurant at lunch--- Ate at the Local which worked out fine for us. At dinner at Haven restaurant, my husband just asked our server if the chef would mind just serving the salmon from lunch today. Waiter came back and said the chef didn't mind at all. So he did receive the salmon after all. David (my husband) said it was very good. and that was that.
  16. I have read that the gym (not interested in treadmill use, which has different hours) hours are either 6:00 am to 10 pm---or some said 7:00 am --- Has any one been on the Emerald in the last year or so who knows for sure whether or not it is 6:00 am or 7:00 am? We will be on the port intensive Canada cruise in a couple of weeks-- my husband (not me, too lazy) is trying to figure out how many times he can make use of the gym---- he usually works out at 6:00 am and just wants to make sure he has time to do his workout usually just on a plain exercise bike, before breakfast and going on morning excursions. So I am trying to get the most accurate info. Thanks in advance. Anita
  17. I had filled out on line, info regarding delivery of medallion a long time ago. I received a notice in my email, which may be sent out to all a month or two before cruise departure date. "It's time to order, upgrade medallion accessory"----- I have filled out all info regarding e docs, etc. and have been "green" lighted. My question is this: Is there a place on princess account, including the app on phone where one could check that it has already been ordered? (Neither my husband or myself care about upgrades with this) I really don't want to call up Princess's lousy customer service. The last time I did that just to ask a question, my cruise was cancelled by mistake, shore excursions lost, etc. and it was a total fiasco (Princess did their best to make things right- (OBC added etc) but I would rather not contact them again, for fear of another screw up. Any way, so far I can't find any place that shows that medallion will be mailed to my home.
  18. I checked with Dexcom- got the usual vague answer- it may or may not work right with medallion, they really don't know- just to bring lancets and old fashioned monitor as back up, in case it doesn't work. It sure would be nice if I could get a straight answer. Dexcom attitude is that they will just replace the sensor, when I come back from cruise if there is a problem. I just would like to know what the story is from someone who has actually used Dexcom while using Princess Medallion.
  19. I am type 2--- My patch is on top of my arm- my shirt covers it- it isn't a big deal, and sure beats having to ***** my fingers 3 times a day. But that isn't the point of my question--- Can I get on board, the regular sea card- even though I will have my medallion at hand? Do people do this any way?
  20. Thanks for your reply-- I called up Dexcom and of course couldn't get a straight answer. The patch is worn on my arm---- I was told medallion may or may not mess up the Dexcom patch, and to have plenty of the finger lancets and monitor that goes with that as back up (which I would do any way) The actual monitor is not through my phone, as it isn't compatible, so I carry the monitor in a little pouch on my person. I've had no problem going through xray (I have the attendants do a hand search with the monitor itself, I've even had a Ct scan which did not interfere with the patch on my arm at all. But if I hear from people that Dexcom patch has been messed up while wearing a Princess medallion, then I would probably just not use at all on the cruise (I'll be gone for 21 days altogether) and be "stuck," pun intended, using the old fashioned (ouch) lancets.
  21. Hi- I just posted this on Princess site, but maybe someone on this site can be helpful--- I will be on a Princess cruise in Sept, and will be receiving a medallion with lanyard in the mail. Those of you who have travelled on Princess know what I am talking about. I just read somewhere that people who wear a pacemaker have problems with this. I am a diabetic and have attached to my arm Dexcom 7 monitor---- My question is: Have nay of you who wears a glucose monitor on their arm, and have sailed on Princess with the medallion, had any problems with Dexcom not working, or damaged, etc? Thanks for your responses.... Anita
  22. I haven't sailed on Princess since the medallion class started. My cruise is in Sept--- I wear the Dexcom monitor --- I just read that for persons that have a pacemaker, they should not use a lanyard to wear the medallion. Does this apply as well to the glucose monitors ?- including free style libre, I guess--- Had I not read about interference with pacemakers, I never would have thought about this. So if any of you do wear the Dexcom on medallion class, have you had any problems? thanks for any info. Anita
  23. Hope you are right, that in spite of 10:00 pm departure, getting on board the ship will be at the usual time.
  24. Just wondering: If ship leaves at 10:00 PM on embarkation day, would the dining rooms be open later for lunch? I think the boarding time will be 1:00 (in Boston)-- how early can you actually get on board?
