For everyone who has been so supportive and kind, I finally tested negative.

Our bags are packed and we are awaiting reassignment.

    We will fly home tomorrow.

So many of you have lifted me up in hope.

I pray none of you ever find yourselves in my position.
    Thank you.

I’m so happy and relieved for you!! Finally!

Safe travels to you both. Thank you for keeping all of us plugged into the realities of COVID and cruising.

Are you getting off at the next available port or is that cruise at it’s end?

If you do decide to go, I would reiterate to  be very careful the excursions you are planning to take on your cruise right now.

We are on a 12 day cruise in Aug, and so many on our roll call have booked bus tours in each port. In my opinion, this could be risky right now, even with a mask on, because of contact tracing- one person on that bus becomes ill, or tests positive, it could effect everyone on that tour ( even if it is just having wait on test results) I understand that in normal circumstances these are great tours to take if mobility is an issue or you just want to see the sights. But I would be cautious right now. I hope things look a little different in Aug than they do now.

    Wise advice.

if there ever was a time to pop for a private independent tour or just go off on your own, this is the time.  Now way do I want to risk a ship sponsored tour bus .

Ah, so this isn't your typical 'still testing positive but healthy to fly home' COR!

Yikes.  Testing positive on any cruise disembarking in Italy would be a real train wreck.  I understand Bananavan's situation more clearly after your post of the Italian site.

Celebrity should have been …and should be …far more upfront and clear with all port/country quarantine restrictions so that peoples eyes are wide open when booking or making that final payment. I haven’t been able to find anything - but do they have fluid/up to date links to these quarantine restrictions somewhere? It’s not hard to have a page with current country protocols for the embarkation/disembarkation ports.

But- that’s not good for sales.

No flaw in your logic. Glad you're feeling OK but sorry to hear you've tested positive. There are T least 50 of us in quarantine onboard the ship who tested positive on the TA and others who tested positive and chose to quarantine...

or not as I've read some sadly have not....in Amsterdam. We're told that after 10 days we can get a Certificate of Recovery to fly home. Do you have a documented positive result as you need that to then get the Certificate of Recovery.

Hope you stay well and please let us know how your quarantine experience is going. My experience is in the linked thread posted by emma's gran above.

    Hope you’re feeling well soon.

After 10 days and you get the Certificate of Recovery, do you stay onboard until you return to Amsterdam or do they make you disembark at the next port whatever that may be?

For airline rules:  Delta for example will NOT let you fly for 12 days after a positive test no matter how many times you test negative.  Their rules.  So check with your airline about the "what if's".

@Two Boys CruisingI was on Delta’s site today and didn’t see this mentioned. Would you have a link please?  Thanks

This "what if" scenario is not a justification for spreading COVID-19 to hundreds even thousands of others.  Countries have enacted travel restrictions to reduce the spread of COVID-19.  They have not enacted these restrictions to encumber their own citizens or other travelers.  Flaunting these rules only exacerbates the spread and deadlinness of the virus.

So I really wish someone can explain why I can book and take a cruise out of Florida to the Caribbean and come back into the United States without any testing requirement to come back to the US at all.

It truly makes no sense . If there are to be restrictions, make them applicable to all. Not just only air flights coming into the US.

    Italys rules.

I learned today that I will remain on this ship until I either test negative,  OR we celebrate May 29.
That was what Customer Service told me.

They are testing me every morning until whichever comes first.

    No negative test, no Certificate.
May this point I expect every Television network to be at the Indianapolis Airport, not for the Indy 500, but for my repatriation.
And if anyone thinks that I am doing well mentally through this, they would be wrong.

I’m so sorry to hear this. This is incredibly troubling to say the least. The stress/anxiety/mental strain I’m sure aren’t helping at all!  Are you still showing symptoms? Are you feeling any better?

So you may be held until potentially May 29? Is that the 21st date going by Italy’s rules? How many days would that be in total?

Why not plan around this eventuality by getting tested before you get to the airport? At a pharmacy near where you are staying or remotely using your laptop, tablet or phone?  If you test positive, no one is going to "alert" the Italian government. It just means you will have to make plans to self-quarantine there until you test negative or can get your certificate of recovery.

This was the plan I had in mind when I recently got off a cruise in Southampton. Rather than flying out "day of", I booked a night at an airport hotel, then made arrangements to test remotely with monitoring once I was checked into my room. Luckily I tested negative (as the majority will), but had I not, I already had a plan in mind re: moving to a different hotel in London. Granted in London there are few restrictions but I would've stayed somewhere where I could order decent room service, could get out and walk around and/or sit in a nearby park, etc.

I find it a little difficult to believe that everyone who tests at the airport in Rome, and gets a positive result, is handed over to officials for quarantine...?   Unfortunately I cannot access the link posted.

That’s certainly an option . One that we are considering as we have three days post cruise booked in Italy. But in order to get the official quarantine clock ticking, one may want to get an official test done sooner rather than later. The sooner that’s done, the sooner you can qualify for a certificate of recovery as many continue to test positive for weeks after. Not many can wait it out for potentially weeks waiting for a negative test (jobs, family, financially, etc). I know we can’t.

The article said the lady had a very brief amount to time (like only 10 min) to make arrangements and when she didn’t have any or couldn’t come up with any, that’s when she was taken to the government hotel. Moral of that story is to have a cancellable hotel reservation in place just in case.

I too would like that link.
I am symptom free as is a gentleman a few doors down
We have no idea as to when we are going to be released.

Sounds like Celebrity is just muddling through this - almost making this up as they go.  It's been how many days now?  Hang in there!!  Sending my very best thoughts for you and your husband.

How long - if you're on a cruise - do you have to stay in quarantine if you've tested positive?

If you travel afterwards in Italy, and find out you're positive, how long do you stay before you qualify for a certificate of recovery?  Because in order to travel back to the US, you need to be negative or have the Certificate of Recovery.

Many stay post cruise to tour.  If you test at the Rome airport and are positive, and don't have alternate quarantine plans in place, I believe you get taken to the government hotel to quarantine. Reports I've read of people that were taken to this hotel is that after 7 days you're tested, then every 48 hours thereafter.  Max 21 days is Italy's rules.  So how do you break through their rules and come up with a 10 day max?  I'm hearing its quite harsh and restrictive at that hotel.

This is the rule in Italy for persistently positive patients:

Persistently positive patients, refers to the people who continue to result positive to the molecular swab test for weeks. They can suspend their 21-day isolation from the onset of symptoms also without testing negative, as long as they are free from symptoms for at least one week.

Where did you read this?  Would you happen to have a link?

I have been diagnosed with COVID and even with being double vaccinated and boosted it is like a horrible flu. I was booked for the British Isles in September and I have changed it to Roundtrip Seattle to Alaska. I cant imagine dealing with this illness AND having to figure out how the heck I was going to get home  if I was overseas. I respect all those who are still willing to take the risk but Im not.

    I completely understand.
We have a RT Rome cruise booked and currently Italy’s requirements are if you test positive, you can only exit quarantine if negative or 21 days…whichever comes first. We can’t deal with being away from family and our jobs for a potential 3 weeks. We are looking at our options as well.

    Watch this space.
I am going to find out soon enough.
I test again on May 20, which will be Day 12 for me.
Failing then will result in another 9 days.
Of course, I should have known better.
I was called today and told that they are trying to see if it is possible for me to test earlier than Friday but I am not holding out hope.
I am trying to ascertain the rules for isolation post positive test for flying back to the USA via KLM.

I’ve been following your story and it’s an absolute nightmare. My heart goes out to you and your husband. The psychological stress of it all …I can’t imagine the toll it takes.

If one has chosen to stay onboard once one has tested positive, as soon as one tests negative, do they make you get off the ship at the next port, whatever that may be?  Are you hoping to fly out of Rome? Please do keep us posted on the isolation rules from whatever location you disembark.

We're on for the full 12 nights but if I test Neg on both day 5 and day 6 I can move about. If Positive on day 5 you have to wait until the end of your 10 day quarantine.

What an absolute nightmare. I can’t imagine what you all are going through.

Is your 10 day max quarantine tied to the requirements of your disembark port?  Italy has a max 21 day quarantine or negative test whichever comes first. So for those cruises that end there, does that mean could be in ship quarantine for a possible full 21 days?

yeah, maybe cheated was too harsh.... I'll go with disappointed....

We were on a similar itinerary...for Iceland and Ireland.  Big itinerary changes...dropping Dublin and Cork - it was a deal breaker for us.  We cancelled and scheduled another cruise.  Yes, we are very disappointed.

  16. I understand your concern.  I'm a planner too and I'd want to gather up as much info as I could.  I've been following the France requirements for some time now since we were considering a land only trip there this year.  Yes, you are supposed to have the French pass...that assumes you are touring places on your own.  The big question is will cruise ship passengers be allowed to tour on their own or do they have to be on a ship sponsored excursion .  If they require them to be on a ship excursion, maybe this will be how they will avoid having to have individuals get the pass.

  17. I have a question about the celebrity booking website. When I select the "You Choose" option of picking my own specific cabin, it shows a price for that cabin. Got it. The next screen is where the add on of perks comes in. For ease, I pick the Sail Best rate. Got it. Next screen, that summary screen shows that base price jumps significantly. Even given the current promotional deductions which I see on that page also, once you deduct them off the price of that person 1 and 2, the price of that cabin I selected does not equal the cabin price I originally saw when I selected it + the perks. Its way higher, by a couple of hundred dollars. Why? What am I missing?
