  1. I'm on this cruise. I was just thinking, what if we do stop in Dakar. And what if some people choose to go ashore and some don't. I wonder how these two groups of people will treat each other.

This was my thought exactly. Other lines have xld Dakar and i personally think that is the correct decision.

  2. Extremely easy to get around. Taxis are plentiful and there are trams also. You will of course need yen and IIRC you can purchase the tram ticket in the terminal.

For the OP: if you want something different and are a bit adventuress you can visit "Battleship Island". It's an amazing and eerie place as it's a deserted island where all the buildings were abandoned when the mining stopped. Homes, schools, hospitals, all abandoned. Google battleship Island, nagasaki and you'll get lots of info. Very cool.

  3. Bali was one of my biggest travel disappointments and I have been to almost 100 countries. If you are prepared for traffic nightmares, garbage everywhere, including on rice paddy treks outside Ubud, ocean water in Jimbaran and in Nusa Dua with plastic bottles floating and taxi drivers that rip you off you will not as shocked as I was.

I would do no more than 2 days. I stayed at le Meridien in Jimbaran, the Conrad in Nusa Dua and Kajane in Nusa Dua. I did enjoy the Conrad and Kajane.

  4. Hi,

Have been doing some cleaning and came across souvenirs of my Mom & grandma's cruise on Sept. 13, 1975. Have the brochure, daily programs and menus. Capt. was Alberto Marossa and CD was Eddie Dawson. The artwork on the menus is beautiful. They paid $545. for an outside cabin (pp) Port Taxes were $12.26 pp.....

The Oceanic was my first cruise in 1971 when I was in HS and I have been on 65 cruises since then. That first cruise hooked me.

    Bon voyage

  5. Hi,

No Cadum, I regrettably, was not on that cruise. But I have a question. Did you think that there was anything negative about Todd English? I LOVE that restaurant, especially the desserts.....I have friends who are on now (9-29 cruise) and thought that was the one you were on. Also, I see you thought the shows were excellent. Did you see Rock at the Opera? I love that show. When we were on for the Mother's Day cruise, my husband, who hates musicals, said he even loved that show. That's high praise from my hubby.

Charlotte Vale - What small, beautiful ship might you be going on?

    Bon voyage

  6. Hi,

Chef's Galley is a "Demonstration Kitchen" where the chef makes the dinner in front of you. He explains the process and shows all the necessary steps before it reaches your table. Sometimes they have guest Chef's from Gourmet Magazine. If not it is one of the ship's chefs.

The fee is $35.00 and it is only open for dinner. (For breakfast they do omelettes and pancakes/waffles and for lunch they do sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, etc). The $35.00 includes wine and service charge (gratuity)

You make reservations by picking up the phone in your room and pressing the button for Kings Court. They will make the reservation. Unless I'm mistaken it is a set time each evening.

The menu changes each night. I think you can find out when you call to make your reservation.

I also HIGHLY recommend Todd ENglish. It's $20. for lunch, $30. for dinner (no wine, that's just the service charge) and its worth every penny.

    Bon voyage

  7. Hi Cadum

I didn't know you were on this sailing. If you remember I am Miss Martha's friend. I left you a note on the 4-16 cruise but we never were able to get together. Wow, what a year on the QM2 you have been having. I have a friend on now and can't wait to hear all about it. Enjoy.

    Bon voyage

  8. Hi Miss Martha,

I am sitting here laughing at the picture of a bath tub full of balloon undies. What a great idea. So much more festive then hanging them on the retractable wash line in the tub. I'm going to remember that for next time.

Thanks for the nice words about my Dad on the other thread. He really enjoyed meeting you too. I'm sure there will be future opportunties. He has never sailed on the yachts (he actually sailed on the Seabourn Sun with my Mom for 39 days around SA and loved it) I gotta get them to go on one of the triplets. WHo knows, maybe you all will sail together.

    Bon voyage

  9. Hi,

I have crossed 8 times. 7 on the QE2 and once on QM2. The QM2 crossing was the Maiden Voyage into NYC 16 April - 22 April. We had gale force 10 winds and 40 foot waves and it was GREAT. The ship handled so well. That being said, the 25 April crossing was like glass. I've also crossed in July, Aug & Sept and have had mostly calm/slight swell, but you NEVER can predict the Atlantic Ocean.

There are 26 crossings next year, so you'll have lots of choices on when you want to go and when youwant to come back. Whenever, you'll love it.

    Bon voyage
