We were on the Jade (Pearl's sister ship) for 14 days two months ago. Pretty much everything was great to outstanding. We liked it so much, we booked the Pearl for a 14 day TA next September. If the Pearl is anything like the Jade (and it should be), it should be a great trip.

NCL Escape: Is this a cruise ship or a floating casino?
schmoopie17 replied to albatros1's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
I didn't click on the links. Don't need to. I'm living proof that smoke triggers my (and Mrs. Schmoopie's) asthma. Whatever is in cigarette smoke, it has the effect of closing up my breathing passageways and it has the feeling of severe shortness of breath and/or suffocating. Maybe I'm an anamoly (Mrs. Schmoopie, too). Maybe we should get inflatable plastic bubbles in which we can be encased on our next cruise. On second thought, it's probably hard to breathe inside one of those, too. As for casinos (the original topic)...absolutely no problem with them. If people want to lose money, (and I've lost my share)...at least that doesn't impact others walking through (or even in the general vicinity of) the casino. -
NCL Escape: Is this a cruise ship or a floating casino?

Depending which survey you look at, about 11% of all American adults are smokers. 89% are not. Seems like there should be a better way to accommodate the vast majority...especially since smoke wafts far and wide and impacts everyone in the vicinity and beyond. Nasty habit...and it all goes up in smoke. Oh, wait. This was a casino discussion. In that case, never mind. -
I was in hospital management for many years. Nurses were my favorite employees. Doctors, on the other hand...in the words of Forrest Gump, when talking about a box of chocolates..."You never know what you're going to get." Although, I've never bitten into a doctor (or a nurse, for that matter) to see if they had a nougat filling. Good thing I retired before I got the urge...

If you ask me (and I know you didn't)...that's a better use of a McDonald's gift card than actually going to McDonald's.

Sounds like the same set-up as the Jade. Teppenyaki is stashed away inside the Asian restaurant (Jasmine). The goofy thing is there is one line that is used for both restaurants and the host/hostess would constantly go down the line every couple of minutes asking if people were in line for Teppanyaki and pull them out to seat them. We ate in Jasmine four (or was it five) times and loved it.

@D. B.Hoping you'll have follow-up reports. We have friends on this cruise and would like to "ride along" vicariously.

NCL First Timer With Many Questions!
schmoopie17 replied to CarnivalCruiser875's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
On this point I need to disagree. My feeling is that desserts are the one area where NCL consistently excels. I almost never get dessert when we go out for dinner on land, but I always get dessert after every meal on an NCL cruise. As for entertainment, I'm shocked that nobody has mentioned "Choir of Man". Probably the best NCL production show...until they replace it with some inane game show (but hopefully not before September when we're on the Escape again). -
WOW...looks like a huge "crowd" for Deal or no Deal. That was about the same size "crowd" we had for Wheel of Fortune on the Jade. Hoping NCL observes the "crowds" and decides to pull the plug on the game show fiasco.

Surely/Shirley you can't be serious. Le Bistro is consistently one of our favorite NCL dining venues. Been four times...had Filet four times. Delighted four times. As I've so astutely pointed out in previous posts, if you want a great steak, go to Le Bistro. After all, Filet Mignon is French. Just be sure to get it without that goose liver crapola on top.

Goodbye NCL and Possibly Cruising Altogether Rant One
schmoopie17 replied to MajSteve's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
So, I'm confused. Do we blame NCL or the port staff for making people wait so long hanging upside down? I'm leaning toward port staff...but so many things are upside down in the world today, I'm not sure who to blame in this instance.
