  1. Useful tip: You don't have to book the same airline both ways. Oftentimes, you can get a better price shopping one way flights on two different airlines. If you are looking for a lower price returning on 8/12, I see Delta has a 1-stop connecting through Atlanta for $112. Leaves Fort Lauderdale 4:45 pm, arrives at Midway 8:41 pm. Even if you pay $25 pp for a checked bag, it's still cheaper than any Southwest flights that day.

  2. Thanks for the replies!

So with FTTF, if we don't self assist, do we still get off before those without/general debarkation? Will our luggage be available for pick up right away in the terminal?

We did FTTF in the past and were issued Zone 1 luggage tags, so the first group to debark after self assist. Bags were waiting for us once we reached the terminal.

  3. There is a cabin above your cabin, below your cabin and cabins on either side, so it should be nice and quiet. I don't believe there is an exit to the pool deck on 11, but there is on 12

There is no cabin above 11267. The last cabin on that side of deck 12 is 12037, which would be above cabin 11259. Above OP's cabin is the open deck adjacent to the water slides, although I wouldn't expect it to be particularly noisy, at least not at night.

I haven't been on this class of ship, but I would be very surprised if there is no door leading from the outside deck to the cabins on deck 11.

  4. Wife, 5 y.o. daughter, and I recently returned from a 7 day cruise aboard Ruby Princess. Our daughter was in the kids club most of the time when they were open, but they were also closed 12-2 and 5-7 on sea days. What kid-friendly activities are there to do during those times? I don't know...eat lunch? Eat dinner? If there was extra time after lunch, we either went swimming or just chilled in the cabin for a bit. It honestly didn't seem like there was that much time to kill.

  5. Just off the Ruby Princess a couple weeks ago. One day, while in the pool with my 5 year old, I noticed a couple allowing their approx. 9 month old infant (wearing a swim diaper) to swim in the pool. Now, I know this is strictly prohibited for health reasons, but I never saw anyone from Princess do or say anything about it. Didn't see any fellow passengers say anything either. Admittedly, I could have said something but didn't because I tend to be a non-confrontational person.

So, my question here is, would you have said or done anything in this situation? Or better yet, has anyone actually been in the situation, and what did you do about it? Did you say something to the couple directly, or maybe find a Princess employee to report it to? Just curious.

  6. It's also not a snarky response because you never said what dates you were looking to travel on.

Airfare is easily priced up in less than a minute online nowadays so why not look it up yourself??

I don't see where OP asked for airfare prices?

  7. On the newest Princess ships (Royal and Regal) the deluxe balconies have a sofa bed. These cabins are usually priced only a little higher than regular balcony cabins. Sometimes they are even cheaper, if the deluxe is in a "less desirable" location.

That's good to hear. Too bad the west coast never gets any of the newest ships.

  8. :confused:I just booked a one-way flight on the web site of an airline for an extremely (very low) price. I think it must be a mistake. I went throught the whole booking process and entered my credit card information. They sent me e-mails confirming the booking. If they realize it was a mistake can they cancel my booking or ask me to pay a higher price?

Any info would be appreciated so I can sleep nights and not worry about it. The flight is only in November (to Venice, Italy). I only got charged $260 (including all taxes and fees) to fly one-way from a U.S. city to Venice. Too good to be true?

What date? What city? Is the price still there?

  9. Useful tip: If you have a smartphone or tablet, load the Fly Delta app before you go. You will then be able to connect to the plane's wifi (for free) and find out your arrival/departure gates before you land. You can then check the terminal map in the in flight magazine and know exactly where you are going before you even step off the plane.

  10. The good news is, you will go through U.S. Border Preclearance in Vancouver, so your plane will arrive in Atlanta as a domestic flight. ATL, for as big as it is, is actually pretty easy to navigate. There are 7 concourses, with a train running down the middle connecting them all. Assuming your flight arrives on time, 50 minutes is plenty of time. In my experience, Delta adds a lot of "cushion" to their schedule, and most flights arrive earlier than scheduled.

  11. Just off the Ruby Princess 7-Day cruise to Mexico. This was our first on Princess after two previously on Carnival. Our next cruise will probably be back on Carnival, and here's why:

We are a family of 3 and really prefer the king/queen plus sofa bed room configuration. On Carnival, this setup is available with a regular balcony or even an ocean view. On Princess, the cheapest room with a sofa bed is a mini suite. Because of this, we booked a mini and spent about $1,000 more on this cruise than either of our previous 2 on Carnival.

At the time I booked, figured it might be worth the extra cost because Princess would be a big step up from Carnival, but after the cruise, my wife and I agree that it really wasn't. Most things were more similar than different. I haven't really organized all my thoughts too well, so feel free to ask questions if I miss something. Here are some things that come to mind:

Food – We ate dinner in the MDR most nights, and other meals were mostly at the buffet. Comparing the two lines, we didn't see much difference. A lot of things were very good, some OK, and others not good at all. This has been the case on all 3 of our cruises. Princess did not have Prime Rib in the MDR on any night, and as I recall, was available once or twice per cruise on Carnival. I also found it disappointing that the pizza bar closed at 10:00 pm every night. For chocolate lovers, Princess has a tasty desert called the Love Boat Dream, but I really missed the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake!

Drinks – Probably the thing I liked most about Princess was that I was able to get the drink package without buying one for my wife. She just doesn't drink enough to make it worthwhile. Pay-as-you-go prices and drink offerings seemed to be roughly the same.

Entertainment – We haven't attended many production shows on any of our cruises, so can't really comment on those. Wife and I really enjoy the Punchliner Comedy Club though, which is nonexistent on Princess. There was a comedian onboard the first few nights, but we weren't able to catch his shows due to scheduling conflicts with the kids club.

Kids Club – Seemed to be pretty much the same. Our daughter loved it and was there just about every time they were open. Same with Camp Carnival last year. I will say that with her being 5, Princess Pelicans (3-7) was probably a better fit for her this year, where on Carnival, she would have been placed with the 2-5 year olds, and probably would have asked why she was with all the “babies.”

Service – We always had excellent service on Carnival and found the level of service on Princess to be equivalent.

In conclusion, we had a great time on Ruby Princess, just as we did previously on Carnival. Would cruise Princess again if the price were close to the same, but as mentioned earlier, with the room setup and having to get a mini suite, Princess will probably always be a lot more expensive for us than Carnival, and we just didn't find that much added value. Our next cruise will probably Jan 2018. I'm looking at Splendor out of L.A. or maybe Breeze out of Galveston.
