1. NCL offer for inside still cost over $1K and they want another $1K to upgrade from inside to balcony $900 plus port and taxes for 3rd in cabin. I also have a Princess offer for an inside stateroom and it is only $400 to upgrade to balcony with a 3rd person between $199-$399 depending on stateroom. NCL wants $900 for an inside cabin.. Getting a better deal on princess, but I was getting a better deal on Royal. Will have to wait to see how that program has changed.

Overall not a NCL fan. Still going on the cruise but doubt I would ever cruise with them again.

Going on the breakaway in july to bermuda.

I'm trying to help make sense of your fares, fees, etc. I selected a random date in July for BA to Bermuda, for a Category BB Balcony cabin. If you were paying full-fare, this is what your Fares & Govt fees breakdown would look like for 3 guests:

    Item Guest 1 Guest 2 Guest 3

    Cruise Fare $1,809.00 $1,809.00 $999.00

    Gov't Taxes,

    Fees & Port

    Expenses $198.65 $198.65 $184.65

    Choice Promotion Service Charge: $111.96 $111.96 $0.00

    Total per Guest $2,119.61 $2,119.61 $1,183.65

With, or without that third guest, if you've chosen the Beverage and Dining package, you will have this Promo Service Charge to cover the gratuities for both of those packages:

    CHOICE PROMO SRVC CHRG $223.92

So I'm guessing your exact breakdown for your offer looks pretty much like this:

    Admin Fee $250.00 per guest x 2 = $500.00

    GF&PE $198.65 per guest x 2 = $397.30

Promo Service Charge total of = $223.92

Upgrade Inside to Balcony total = $1,000.00

Total for Guests one and two = $2,111.22

Then addition of third guest total of $ $1,183.65

Grand total of all fares, fees & costs of $ 3,294.87

Total cost if booked without a comp or discount would have been $5,422.87

You're sailing on one of the busiest months of the year, to a destination that has reduced casino time (due to being docked, and casino opened shorter hours than when at sea between ports) which diminishes the company's ability to earn revenue from you during this itinerary. You've received a value of approximately $2,200.00, plus you have unlimited beverages free and specialty dining free.

    This is a rip-off how???

Would really LOVE to know exactly which ship and date your Princess offer is for, and exactly what additional promos you're receiving with that booking.

Sorry, but if we don't know the whole picture, and you're not comparing apples to apples...

The numbers you're quoting don't make sense based on my experience.

I'd really LOVE to know what ship and sailing date you're referring to with the number you state above, and what type of voucher or comp it is you're generating this booking from.

  3.
It's priced that way BECAUSE there's 3 people in the room So third person is not free. Just a little cheaper. It is what it is. I'll check to see if I'm better off choosing different amenities Thanks for your response
Which exact date in February, and which exact cabin category is it you are pricing, please?

Three dates in Feb have the 3/4th guests free, and one week does not have the offer.

It would help us explain what you're seeing, if we knew the exact information above. ;)
  4. It is the Haven's private sundeck and bar. Limited passes are available to non-Havens guests. No water feature. No cabanas.

It does have a water feature.

In this photo, you can see the stainless steel mesh drain running across the deck in front of it

In this photo, you can see the large white pipe running across the wall, directly behind the bar. That pipe provides a strong mist that you can stand in/under.

  5. What is Posh on Epic?

A private sun deck area that overlooks the pool. Has its own bar, water feature (that doesn't always work) loungers, etc. There are numerous levels you can ascend to from the main Posh area, all with loungers and cabanas.

This area is accessible by keycard only, and is included as part of any Haven booking on Epic. Passes to Posh can also be purchased the first day onboard, if you're fast enough. ;)

  6. I just returned on Sunday from a comped oceanview where I upgraded to the DOS. We did not get the 4 promos.

I'm sure that's exactly why the OP is here mentioning it... because it's a brand new change.

On our recent cruise we also received only the perks of our comp, despite upgrading to the Haven. I'm thrilled to pieces that this is changing - as it should!

  7. If CAS comps you a cruise, are you still responsible for the taxes and port fees or would those charges be covered?

If you receive a full comp, you are still responsible for:

1.) Administrative Fee - which in reality is the Non-Commissionable fare and can range from around $250 and up.

2.) Gov't Fees and Taxes - which are assessed by the ports the ship is docking at.

3.) Promo Service fees (if applicable) for beverage or dining packages if received as promos on your booking.

4.) Upgrade costs if you elect to upgrade to a higher category cabin than what you are comped.

    Hope that helps!

  8. No, not confused at all.

We (DH and I) will be buying OBC prior to the cruise. Can my MIL also purchase OBC with her own CC, even though we are in the same cabin?

Yes, absolutely she can pre-purchase OBC for herself, using her own credit card.

A bit confused? OBC is on board credit, usually from NCL or a travel agent. From your message I think you are asking if each of you can use your own credit card attached to your room key for charges. The answer to that is yes. The daily service charge for the room will only be charged to one of your cards though, unless you pay it in advance.

Completely incorrect. DSC is charged to each individual onboard account.

  9. I thought it was just me! I also use mac and had the same result regardless of how I tried to print it. I just tried to follow the guidance about printing it as a PDF and that still failed to generate only one page.

Happily, I don't need to worry, since the Porters at the pier will have luggage tags and we can just use those. Probably a lot easier that way anyway. :D

  10. Welcome to CC!

Norwegian does not have any such pass as you describe, because the party does not take place until Sailaway begins. The muster drill takes place before the ship sails, and then the party begins on the outdoor pool decks, etc.

As far as a place where you friend can watch the ship depart, I'm not really sure the pier would be the best place for that, since the entire area is security controlled. She would have to have a ticket to get past the indoor security screening, and the only place would be from the top of the building, in the parking lot. In order to get there, she would need to pay to park, and then go through the security scan there. If she is driving you to the port, then that would be the way to go.

Bear in mind, you need to be on the ship itself at least one hour prior to the sail time - providing you've done your check-in online in advance. If you are checking in at the pier, you need to be checked-in two hours in advance. Either way, your friend will be waiting quite a while to see your ship depart from the pier.

Folks from the NY area may have some better ideas on nicer places where your friend would have a great view of the ship departing. Hopefully others will chime in with some ideas for you!

    :)

  11. "Kathy" popped out - first click/attempt, nothing but managed to see prices on subsequent "click" ... system is running & functional, sort of :D

Except, robotic Kathy - on a somewhat, related observation I made - couldn't answer why there is no pricing difference or discount for AARP rates (which, I knew - often one must call in to ask) or Latitutde discount ("not offered" on that sailing, I suppose) or any "Residency" special rates ("none", based on your 'State')

While you were making your observations, did you also observe that "Kathy" is not robotic, but rather a live person whose name is not really Kathy? Did you further note that when you use the chat feature on the website, that the folks assisting you are avid NCL cruisers, who do not work for NCL, and therefore would have no way to answer those questions to your satisfaction?

  12. First and Last Time on NCL

I have some questions after reading the review linked above, and would appreciate any feedback.

I'm admittedly a little over-sensitive about this upcoming trip. It's in celebration of our parents' 50th wedding anniversary, and as such I'm hopeful everyone will have a great and memorable experience. The BA is a new ship for everyone in the group, and only a couple of us have ever been on any NCL ship before (Dawn class - which was great fun).

And now, the comments from the review...

"Anyone under 21 can not use the pool and lines for the water slides were over 2 hours long so the teens really had no way to swim or cool off on the ship."

Any truth to the pool age restrictions? Has anybody experienced anything CLOSE to a 2 hour wait for the waterslides?

Utter nonsense. There is an "Adults Only" pool, plus a kids' splash area, plus a kids/family pool. On top of all that, there are 5 huge watersides. The assertion that teens had no way to swim or cool off is utter rubbish. Regarding the 2-hour wait for slides... even on the most crowded sea day, I find it awfully hard to believe. Yes, lines can be long, but not 2 hours long.

"We went to see Second City in an extremely small venue with wooden seats the MOST uncomfortable seats I ever sat in. Second City were terrible and not worth enduring the pain caused by the seats to watch."

I realize individual tastes in entertainment come into play, but any suggestions from recent passengers on which Second City shows to catch or skip?

Second City gets very mixed reviews. Personally, I'm not a fan at all, but others find them hilarious. Perhaps I've just seen the same skits too many times. They do have several shows - read the descriptions in the Freestyle Daily to see which one(s) might suit your style.

"Other than that there was nothing to do in the evening. I was back in my cabin most evenings by 10:30 at the very latest many times earlier which was not a bad thing since I had to get up at 6 in order to get a seat in the shaded area by the pool."

I'm laughing so hard I almost fell off the couch. Perhaps the fact that the reviewer was "newly single" as reported in one of her recent posts on the roll call, had something to do with her being back in her cabin each night at 10:30? I dunno. What I do know is that I've never been on a Norwegian ship that had nothing to do in the evening, and I generally don't make it back to my cabin until the wee hours of the morning.

Just including this one in case anyone wants to comment. I don't expect we'll have any problem finding things to do.

    Thanks everyone!

    Doug

Every sailing is different (different mix of demographics & different passenger count/mix), every individual will see things differently, and every review should be taken with a large grain of salt (some need larger grains). ;)

Go, have an amazing time, and be sure to report back with your thoughts!

  13. Price on the site is in USD, but if you do your booking as a "Courtesy 24-hour Hold" and then call them they can convert it to CAD for you. Don't put the deposit down yet - just do the hold, and then call to ask for the conversion.

After the conversion is in place, you can either do your deposit while you have them on the phone, or do it in your MyNCL Account any time before the the hold expires. ;)

  14. Which deck is the Aft-Facing Balcony on? Engine noise will not be an issue, as they are relatively quiet anyway. What is above or below you could generate noise, so it's important to take that into consideration.

Vibration would only be a very short-term issue, and only when the ship is docking, if at all.

  15. Not true, the iConcierge app has the menus on it, especially the main dining room menus. You can view all seven days of menus and freestyle dailies when you first board the ship.

Very good to know! Somehow I missed those. I'll be checking those out when I board Breakaway. Thanks!!! :)

  16. Finally getting some time to prepare for our upcoming Getaway cruise (for 11 of us). I've booked Illusionarium, Legally Blonde, and La Cucina, as well as our non-cruiseline excursions for St. Thomas and Nassau.

    A few questions...

I know Spice is adults only. What is a Vibe pass? Do you have to have one to go to Spice?

Spice H20 and Vibe are two totally different venues. Spice is open to all guests free of charge. It is adults-only all day, until around 7pm or so, when they open it to all for the movies on the large screen. Later at night it becomes a nightclub atmosphere. Great place all day, and all night!

Other than the Glow party, what other parties are there? Do people dress for them?

There are several theme parties. One is an ABBA theme, another is an 80's dance theme (fireworks that night also). There may be others I'm not recalling...

I made reservations for La Cucina but keep reading that it is not so good. Can I cancel?

You can call to cancel prior to boarding, or onboard at least 48 hours prior. You will receive a refund.

Tell me about the concierge app. For all phones? What info is available - Freestyle Dailies, menus?

Yes, the dailies, not the menus. Deck plans, event info, and much more is available for free. Can be downloaded onto any smartphone or tablet. No charge for those features. Once onboard you can opt-in for the call & text feature for $7.95 per device, good for the length of the cruise.

Traveling with kids from 6 to 17. What is there to do at night (other than the kid's clubs)?

Various events for Nickelodeon at Sea, plus poolside dance contests, and many other things on the schedule each night. There is also the sports court with mini-golf, and so much more.

I understand that Flamingo Grill is inside Spice. Is the breakfast buffet/food available to everyone, or just adults, or just adults with Vibe pass?

Think that's all for now. Thanks!

Flamingo Grill is not in Spice. It's tucked in on the sports court deck, right by the Video Arcade, behind the slides. Great venue for breakfast, lunch or a mid-afternoon snack. Totally complimentary to all guests.

    Hope that helps! :)
