  1. I have been on many cruises on many different cruiselines. I have stayed in inside cabins and suites. Recently a friend informed me that there is a charge per day and per person if you want your beds reconfigured from twins to queen or vice versa. I searched CC and NCL to see if I could find info on this and have not been able to. I have never paid for this before.

    Utter nonsense!

  2. Awesome!! Thank you everyone! I really appreciate all the replies. We are so excited - 5 weeks from today!

One more question for those of you who have sailed Epic's Haven - I am confused about the Haven Restaurant/Lounge/Courtyard Grill... are these are the same thing or different things? Where is breakfast/lunch served? It sounds like there is dinner available as well? Is this very formal? We will have a 16 month old with us, and I'm planning to bring her to breakfast with us, but wanted to make sure this wouldn't feel inappropriate or anything. (She's very well behaved, luckily.)

Three entirely separate venues, but all connected. You enter the lounge to access the Restaurant, and you can exit the restaurant either through the lounge, or through the Courtyard Grille.

All three meals are served in the Restaurant. "Grille" type fare is served until around 4pm in the Courtyard Grille. The Lounge has a full bar, with an extensive array of furniture groupings for folks to gather and relax, in addition to the bar itself. Also from the lounge you can access the glass elevator that will take you directly to Posh (or you can use the standard elevators as well).

Your daughter will be welcomed at all meals in the Restaurant, and you will likely see plenty of other children there and throughout the Haven complex.

    Hope that helps! :)

  3. I would like to ask for some clarification on your post.

I am a booked Haven guest with kids. I was told by NCL we "all" have access to this area. I was told the only Adults only area was Spice H20.

Who's butt do I need to be kicking here?

Your kids will have full access to the entire Haven Complex, including the pools, hot tubs, and all of the sundeck areas within the Haven itself. They will have access to Posh ONLY for the sail away party where children are permitted. After that party, and for the rest of the sailing, Posh will be an adults-only area. Spice H20 is an adult-only area during the day only. Evenings movies are shown there, and the kids will be permitted access.

I hope that helps clarify what the booking agent was saying.

  4. Fireboat will be picking up a family member, and patient is en route to nearby hospital now. Thoughts and prayers for all. Getaway is now turning to port to block the waves, to ensure a smooth transition for the family member.

    Thoughts going out to all.

  5. According to the radio traffic on the Port Miami Webcam you have a patient onboard requiring emergency rescue immediately. Captain is in communication with dispatch, chopper will be performing rescue from the bow momentarily.

    How truly sad.

  6. Hi! ...

Also...I recently returned from a 5 night RCL cruise and was able to purchase an internet package that allowed me continuous Wi-Fi access on 1 device at a time so I could switch between my phone, ipad, or computer. Does NCL Epic offer anything similar or is it just the traditional XX minutes for a flat fee?

Norwegian is in the process of updating the way it charges for internet, so some ships now have a plan for MB use, rather than time, while many ships still use the old "by-the-minute" plans. This link covers the minute plan info: http://www.ncl.com/about/staying-connected-sea-internet-access

I'll be on Epic before you, and I'll try to remember to post whether she is now offering the MB package, or is still on the minute package. ;)

Lastly...does anyone know what the entertainment in March will be?

    Thanks!

    Soccer Mom

Entertainment on Epic will totally blow you away. It includes Blue Man Group and Legends in Concert, both in the main theater. In addition there is Howl at the Moon, and various comedians at Headliners, and there is also Fat Cats which is a Blues Club.

There is also the Cirque Dinner show in the Speigel Tent.

Reservations are required for BMG, Legends and Cirque. The theater shows are complimentary, and the Cirque Dinner show has a cover charge based on seating choice. $29 for regular seating, and $39 for Premium seating. (do yourself a favor and spring for the Premium Seats).

In addition to all that, there will also be live music in various locations, and DJ's in the nightclub and around the pool at various times as well.

    I hope that helps!

  7. From Norwegian's website:

    NORWEGIAN ICONCIERGE

Now Norwegians can unwind, unplug and still stay connected. Our Norwegian iConcierge app keeps you informed about everything going on, lets you make reservations for Shore Excursions and more on board Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Jewel or Norwegian Pearl. You can plan your playtime with just one hand — which is great because your other hand will probably be holding an umbrella drink.

  8. You don't need a reservation if you are in a suite' date=' you just show your card and will be escorted to the area reserved for Haven guests.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk[/quote']

The OP was asking specifically about the Breakaway, so the statement above is incorrect. On Breakaway, Getaway, Epic, and the new builds yet to come, reservations are still required. The "Reserved Seating for Haven Guests" is still available, however the number of reserved seats is not nearly enough to accommodate all haven guests for each show. You must still make a reservation even for the shows in the main theater. Your Concierge will be aware of your reservation, and will make arrangements for escorting you to this reserved area. Haven guests are not required to sit in this reserved area though. Once all Haven guests have been seated, the Concierge will open that reserved area to non-Haven guests as well.

On the older ships, no reservations are required for any show.

  9. I was on the Getaway on 9/6 and do not recall ever seeing escargots and chateaubriand on the MDR menus. I believe there was a scallop dish with an escargot "like" preparation.

I was also on the 9/6 sailing and had escargot in Taste. It was not in the traditional garlic/butter, but perhaps some kind of wine sauce. Quite good, though. I did see the chateaubriand, but opted for something else.

I was also on this sailing, and indeed had Chateaubriand in the Tropicana Room. It was divine!

  10. In an effort to demonstrate the difference between the perks of booking a suite, versus purchasing the VPP offering, I have highlighted the VPP perks within my standard list of Suite Perks below. Hopefully this will help clear up some of the confusion regarding which perks are received by VPP guests for $99, versus perks received by those who have paid for suites.

Suite categories are designated by the letter “H” (Haven suites) or letter “S” (Non-Haven suites). Stateroom categories not beginning with the letters H or S do not receive perks.

Some ships have S categories only: Sky, Spirit, Sun, Dawn, Star, and Pride of America

Some ships have S & H categories: Jewel, Pearl, Gem and Jade

Some ships have H categories only: Epic, Breakaway, Getaway, Escape & Bliss

    • Haven suites have access to the Haven regardless of where they are situated on the ship. The Haven has its own pool, hot tub, sauna, and sundeck. Some have their own restaurant and bar within the Haven complex. Some Havens also have a retractable roof over the central area. Haven configuration varies based on ship class/generation

    • All suites have complimentary access to a private restaurant for breakfast and lunch. On “Haven Only” ships Haven Suites have a private restaurant for all three meals. 40 VPP guests will enjoy this perk on Non-Haven ships

    • All suites have Butler and Concierge service.

The Concierge can assist with dining reservations, shore excursion booking and guidance in many other areas. He or she also provides delivery of invitations and information to the suite, and performs all escorts on and off the ship.

The Butler provides delivery of daily amenities, meals en suite, replenishes coffee and other supplies, and oversees the maintenance of the suite. Gratuity should be based upon services provided.

    • All suites receive invitations to a special cocktail reception with the Captain and other Officers. 40 VPP Guests will enjoy this perk

    • All suites receive priority embarkation {including express through check-in, as well as a private lounge with various amenities to enjoy while awaiting escort aboard} and disembarkation {which includes a private area to gather, and escort off the ship & directly to the VIP Luggage area and Porter Services}, as well as priority tendering. 40 VPP Guests will enjoy priority tendering and priority disembarkation

    • All suites receive one bottle of Sparkling Wine, one large bottle of water, a bowl of fresh fruit (replenished upon consumption) and a fresh flower arrangement in their suite. (Note: Garden Villas, Deluxe Owner's Suites and Owner's Suites receive Champagne instead of Sparkling Wine) 40 VPP Guests will enjoy one bottle of Sparkling Wine

    • Garden Villa's receive 6 bottles of alcohol with unlimited mixers, soda and water, while Deluxe Owner's Suites and Owner's Suites each receive 3 bottles of alcohol with unlimited mixers, soda and water. All other categories do not receive complimentary liquor.

    • All suites are provided with a variety of Elemis brand toiletries.

    • All suites are equipped with a Coffee/Cappuccino/Espresso Machine (Most are Lavazza pod-style machines), however the Sun has Lavazza machines in the Owner’s Suites, but drip-style coffee brewers in all other suites (because these suites cannot accommodate Lavazza devices).

    • All suites have access to the Pre-Cruise Concierge service, which helps to coordinate your individual selections on pillow types, coffee and tea preferences, and a variety of special requests. Phone number for this service is 855-625-4283.

    • All suites (except the SG and SJ suites on Deck 12 of the Star and some suites on the Sun) have a portable phone, which can be used throughout the ship.

    • All suites are equipped with the "Bliss Bed" which truly lives up to its name, fitted with upgraded bedding. Also provided with upgraded bathrobes, as well as slippers.

    • All suites have an expanded Room Service menu. Essentially, order whatever you want, and if it is available on the ship you will have it. 40 VPP Guests will enjoy this perk for Breakfast only, on Haven-only ships.

    • Some suites have access to a reserved section of the theater on some ships, based upon stateroom category, as well as other factors, which can vary from sailing to sailing.

40 VPP Guests on Haven-only ships will enjoy one Dinner Theater show.

Disclaimer: Perks are subject to change at any time without notice. This list is intended to offer a general guide only, and should not be considered as “official” in any way, shape or form. This document is constructed from personal experience and the experience of others, and is a collaboration of input from many helpful members of Cruise Critic. Many thanks to all who have contributed to the development, and continual updating of the information contained herein.

I think it also bears mentioning that suites are considerably larger than either balcony or mini-suites, have dining tables, better sitting areas, larger balconies, much nicer bathrooms and are generally located in desirable areas of the ship. Hence, they cost a lot more than a mini-suite or balcony stateroom.

While I agree that breakfast and lunch in Cagneys ( or other specialty restaurant) is a wonderful perk, the addition of 40 people over the course of 3 hours is not likely to impact the experience on most sailings, imho. Time will tell whether this package causes issues, or is a resounding success, and you can bet your bottom dollar Norwegian is watching closely, and will react accordingly, one way or the other.

  11. The Waterfront begins at the FWD stairs and elevator bank. Cabin 9150 is located a fair distance forward of that, so you will have no obstruction of your view looking down to the sea. Looks to be a great location, actually. You've got cabins above and below, so should be nice and quiet, plus it's not too far from the elevators and the action. Whatever you decide, have a fabulous cruise!

  12. Welcome to Norwegian, Toad!

You'll enjoy a wonderful host of perks associated with your suite - I've attached a list of them below.

Things not to miss would include having your Butler serve breakfast in the Suite (or any meal for that matter, but breakfast is especially nice to enjoy without having to leave the room). Also, you're just two decks below the "Quiet Zone" which includes a beautiful hot tub surrounded by sun loungers. It's a wonderful hidden gem during the day, and great for stargazing at night. Lastly, since you'll be in Bermuda, be sure to take an evening stroll around the Dockyard area and enjoy the incredible sounds of the tree frogs performing their nightly symphony. ;)

Your Family Suite will qualify for all non-Haven amenities listed below...

I'm sure you'll get lots of other replies with many great ideas on what not to miss. Enjoy every moment of your time onboard!

  13. Thank You!! We are so glad to hear that. He is so much fun. We are 26 days away and really looking forward to it. Was he still in the Mojito bar?

Yes, and also occasionally at Spice H2O as well. He told me he also works the bar in the Grammy Experience as well.

Just wondering if you noticed who is performing in the Grammy Experience?

    Have a wonderful cruise!

I can't recall his name off the top of my head, but while chatting with him at the Sugarcane Bar late one night he told me he'd be onboard for 3 more weeks, and then off for a vacation and back again in either December or January.

I have all the Freestyle Dailies, so I'll pull them out tomorrow and get his name for you.

    :)

  14. Although I have not stayed in an inside on Getaway, so I cannot speak directly to the comfort, you may find the link below to be somewhat helpful. It is taken from the Breakaway Spreadsheet compiled by member Bear3214, with input from many members and other sources. This is the slideshow featuring the inside cabins on Breakaway, which will be identical to those on Getaway...

Hopefully that will be of some help.

    :)

  15. The sofa bed in the living room is only a twin, as it is not a pull-out style, but rather a "flip over" style sofa bed. Therefore, one of your sons will be sleeping on the pullman bed in the second bedroom with you. It will be rather cozy, but entirely doable since you are family.

The convertible bed in the smaller bedroom is a full-size bed when opened, and the pullman bed will be accessed by a ladder which will be placed in front of the closets, so be sure to have everything you need out of the closet before turndown. ;)

Be advised that your balcony is not open, but is an air conditioned solarium. You will have a fabulous view over the bow, and since it's air conditioned you'll be able to enjoy the view without roasting, too.

Feel free to ask any questions!

  16. Can you ask if a bartender named Bong is still on the Getaway? Last I heard he was on vacation. He last worked in the Mojito bar. Your help is appreciated. Thankyou in advance.

Bong is back onboard! We just got off the Getaway on Saturday morning, and enjoyed Bong's special brand of entertainment daily. :D

  17. Thank you so much for your help! I like your idea about placing their own funds on the account and not backing it up. Great thought and a good learning experience for them. That's what we will do. :)

My pleasure. Honestly, it was the voice of experience, as that is precisely what we did with our sons when they were at last old enough, and financially responsible for themselves but not yet in a position to have their own credit cards. Worked like a charm!

    ;)

  18. Assuming they are bringing cash to cover their expenses, they can simply put cash down on their onboard account at the Guest Services Desk immediately after boarding. They can also check their balances at any time, to ensure they are staying within their budget. In the event they use up all the funds in the account, it will be temporarily suspended until they add more cash.

Rather than feeling the need to "back up" their account with your card, having them place their own funds into the account will tend to keep them more conscious of their expenditures. ;)

Be sure they don't add too much in the beginning, as getting a refund can be time consuming on the final night, and if they forget to go for a cash refund, they'll have to wait for a check to be mailed - which can take quite a while.

    Hope that helps!

    :)
