  1. I know that I don't have the broad experience that the crew has onboard their own ship but I've never noticed a huge problem with food spills on my cruises. Yes, I've seen plates and trays in the hallways but I've seen that in upscale hotels also. The policy change is a bunch of hooey designed to make the captive audience use the for a fee room service, nothing more and nothing less.

    i agree

  2. I'm confused.

You like watch them work hard and friendly by placing tips on the table, then remove the tip towards the end so you don't get bad service?

no no, i tip out cash at the end of my cruise to room stewart servers and people i found hard working and friendly. i do not wish to remove the auto tip right away because i dont want my service to suffer, them thinking i wont tip at all. they do have a report of who took auto tips off.

  3. If you did not want a debate why post this here, just call NCL and ask them. But you already know the answer just want to the stir the pot I guess

no actually i havent cruised on ncl since i was a kid. i have been on RCL and celebrity lines lately. and with new policies n place i wasnt sure when or if you could do it.

  4. LOL....frankly we were so busy ordering room service never came up. We were only in the cabin to sleep at night.

"We didn't order room service because of the new fee implemented and on others cruises we always have but I didn't miss it."

hey no shame in being thrifty, lol

  5. Yes, you can still do it. I don't know the cut off.

ty mom, do you know if there is a cut off day on the cruise you have to let them know?

and to respond to the other poster, i know tips arent included, what part of i tip cash is not understandable on CC?

  6. without a huge debate please, i would like the simple yes you can still do that or no. and do you have to ask on the first day , some cruise lines have a cut off as to what day you can request it removed . i like to tip out cash and to those i see working hard and friendly. i like to do it towards the end because i dont wish bad service ,(them thinking im cheap and wont tip)

  7. The actual quote isn't exactly what is being repeated to you above. What Del Rio actually said was that the changes were required to retain current customers and attract slightly more affluent new customers.

So it's not an attempt to jettison loyal customers and get Bill Gates and Ophra Winfrey on board, it is an attempt to retain current customers and attract the slightly more affluent cruisers. I take that to mean the customers currently on RCI or HAL (since the more affluent are already served by NCLH's other two lines, Oceania and Regent Seven Seas).

Whether all the changes will do that is anybody's guess. My guess is that unless the second half of the changes are positive changes, then they won't meet the first part of the goal of retaining current customers.

well some of the changes i do like as i am not into the carnival experience myself. i am going to give it a go this summer and see how i like it.

  8. I just got off the Getaway this morning. There were people all over the ship with food they obviously got in the buffet or at the coffee shop in the atrium or Carlo's Bake Shop and were taking the food to their cabin throughout the cruise. The reason I could tell this was because my cabin was forward, so I saw many of these people in the forward part of the ship and on the forward stairs and elevators. The buffet is aft, so they had brought the food all that way. No, you cannot get a to-go order from any of the restaurants, but if you are eating at a restaurant and need to leave for an unforeseen reason (child, sickness, want to finish dessert but can't) the waitstaff will send the food to your cabin via room service at no extra charge. It comes wrapped with proper plates, cutlery and napkins. In our case, the dessert we were too full to eat was at our cabin in under 5 minutes of our return to the cabin after dinner. We were allowed to take anything in a bottle that we had paid for (sparkling water, wine, etc) with us from any venue back to our cabin. Those are the facts. To me, I don't see this new policy as a problem. Honestly, there was so much food available to us so much of the time, it was completely overwhelming.

thank you , lets hope this isnt fully enforced before summer hits.

  9. Ummmm, if you were threatened to get removed from the ship, than you were doing MUCH MORE than just complaining, you were being downright rude and must have been yelling at swearing. People are not threatened with removal from a ship for complaining rationally, just sayin....

i was never threatened to be removed, they only hinted at the code of conduct, and yes i was loud , i said that, but no swearing. not sure whypeople read more than what an op writes.

  10. Thanks for letting us know about the cabin. We were in cabin down in that area on 1 of our sailings a few years ago and it was the worst for noise. Unfortunately they said they were sailing full and nothing could be done. My DH never complains about noise and even he was not happy.

I do know they don't like moving people unless they really have to.

thank you for understanding, until you experience it these others will not truly understand. i am not sure why they have to put the bass up so loud it shakes the ship and pounds the walls for this type of crowd especially.

  11. Curious, if the ship was sold out as is often the case, what would you have expected? It was pure luck this was a repo with open cabins that there was anywhere to relocate you to.

even when "sold out" there is always a few rooms vacant, in case of a toilet being down or a leak ect ect. I ran a hilton we would block an x amout of rooms for such a scenario.

  12. DOP, did you make prior arrangements before sailing in order to get to the ship?

Why was the fact that you needed 3 trains, a bus & a cab a surprise? How did you expect to get to the ship?

i never said it was a surprise just a pain in the butt and left me a little grouchy i guess. which may have effected some of my tolerance with issues.

I see some others have gotten a little defensive, i was not trashing the line at all, in fact i thought the ship itself was wonderful and also most of the passengers and the crowd delightful. there was plenty of positives i said i liked over Royal and i also said i would try celebrity again to see if it was the staff or perhaps my mood from the start.

  13. Not sure where the OP is from but I know they have Academy Bus Service from many locations that take you right to Cape Liberty. Not sure why he had to take a bus and 3 trains and a cab. This is from the Celebrity web-site:

I would also like to know what stateroom he was in that was so noisy, so we can avoid it in the future.

7028, and to be clear for others i did not get an upgrade, but i wasnt looking for one, just a quiet room i could take naps in. i did get an equal quiet room , but as i said i had to hoot and holler and make a fuss. this isnt great customer service,i used to run a hilton, so i know how you treat a guest with a issue in his/her room to provide a good experience.

  14. I am a long time Cruiser which has recently been loyal to Royal. Searching for a line that was a step above i wanted to try celebrity. First the Bayonne port was very hard to get to without a car. But ok i dont hold that against Celeb. The check in girl once at port was clueless as was the manager about my sons account. i remarked ,dont you check people in every week and should know how this works? ok maybe i was cranky from the bus and three trains and cab to get to port.

So i get on board , what a lovely ship very nice. cabin seems great too. I ate the buffet was better than windjammer for sure. i wanted to take a nap and couldnt because the theater 2 floors below was super loud and practicing for a show with loud booming bass. i went to the front desk three times and all three times i was treated poorly ,partially ignored and i got a little loud after 3 hours of being told i couldnt talk to a manager and to come back later, and finally got to speak to a supervisor as in being told there is a code of conduct and sort of hinted i could be removed. i explained i would not have gotten loud had i had customer service from the beginning. Something Royal has always given.

Not a great way to start my trip over 24 hours no sleep and already 2 incidents, 3 counting a cabbie wanting to fight my uber driver for dropping me off.

i get a room change and its much better noise wise i didnt want any upgrade only peace so i could nap.

Now on to the real review.

MDR food nice but boring and weak selection of appetizers. i felt royal has done better mixing things up like italian night.

    Buffet- better than windjammer

People- better type of people imo as far as dress code and acting ,manners wise. now there was a big G and L transgender group which is ok with me, however nearly 0 single females onboard.

entertainment- snooze, cruise director thinks he is a film maker and there werent that many activities , and a deal breaker for me pools and hottubs closed at 8pm. female piano singer was good.

I know I wanted a "classier" cruise but this was dead boring. club only good one night, DJ's horrible half the time i think it was just a replay program no real DJ.

rest of Staff- didnt make me feel they wanted us onboard , they looked dead tired and over worked, also i think stretched thin as there wasnt enough staff imo but that could be because repositioning.

I am pretty sure ill never sail summit again, but may try another celeb ship to see if it was the staff that made my experience ho hum.
