  1. This thread got me thinking...My husband is not traveling with us. We are not divorced, but how would the cruise line know that? Should I have a letter from him as well?

yes if only one parent is going then you should have one. Because you could be kidnapping the child away from the other parent. I was asked to produce it once and I always have one I dont want to be waving at the ship goodbye.

In practice, any "reasonable" quantity of wine or hard liquor may be brought about in one's hand carry luggage, both on embarkation and at ports of call. No need to smuggle - as seen above they reserve the right to limit the quantity brought onboard but in general will not. I've carried on 8-12 bottle of wine/champagne and a liter or two of spirits at embarkation and no one batted an eyelash.

The above FAQ paragraph could either be interpreted to say that they may choose not to permit the one bottle of wine per person allowed in the contract, or that the contract states a limit that they don't ordinarily intend to enforce unless they believe they should. Experience is that the second interpretation applies.

excellent thanks for the response , very helpful

  3. Are there passengers who judge other passengers? Scroll to the heading "The People" here and draw your own conclusions.

 omg thank you this is the type i was worried about , the ultra snobby im richer than you sort. I do like dressing up and being formal but i also beilieve in treating the staff as you should they are people too.

  4. Only midnight food is at the park cafe in the solarium. I always bring cookies and chips back to my room at lunch, to stock up. Sometimes i order two desserts and bring one back, run up and get a chai tea

I do that as well at times. It does get a boring with the hotdogs and frozen type pizza and fake cheese nachos late nights. So I order room service at around 11pm or so and I get it around 12am at no extra charge. ;)

  5. I can understand RCCL, it is tough for working families on a budget to dress up for a cruise.

I just dont buy into this. One can get a suit at the good will for $20 or slacks for 6.99. If you can afford to cruise you can afford some dress pants and button up dress shirts. I really think its the laziness and being casual comfort more than anything with todays generation.

  6. Far fewer flip-flops (remember, they originated as shower shoes to prevent athletes foot).

Celebrity asks you remain in formal attire on formal nights. Yes, people actually dress up fro formal nights.

Pool side...very few announcements. Sorry, no plugs for inch of gold or bingo.

Fewer kids (summer is kid city on almost all cruise lines).

Service on Celebrity may be a bit more reserved, but it is every bit as good as Royal which has a more "happy" face to service levels.

Ships on Celebrity are truly beautiful, but do not have all the "attractions" of Royal.

But, having "knocked" a few things.....we love both lines!

Per the head chef on the old Galaxy, food budget on Royal runs just under $6 per person per day while Celebrity it runs just under $10 per person per day.

food under $6 per day? that doesnt seem right. breakfast 2 lunches and seafood 4 course dinner. snacks cookies room service ice cream.

  7. In my post I was referring to Diamond members on Royal Caribbean (RCL) to emphasize how snobs are on all the lines. What was funny is that the majority of passengers were from one state, where at least on Cunard they are from all over the world.

thank you lady, my experience with the diamond member asking me to fix the ice machine was on RCL also. So You are correct they are found all over I suppose.

  8. Generally gratuities are billed to you account on a daily basis but this year I've seen more Cunard offers where gratuities are included in the cruise fare.

You should be aware that tipping exclusively in cash obligates the tipped staff member to turn his/her tips into the shared pool, where cash tips in addition to the amount automatically charged to your account are theirs to keep.

thats interesting I was told on RC they keep cash and get a low portion of auto tips so they prefer cash.

  9. I haven't encountered any snobbery or racism on Cunard.

How can I say this next part without coming across as snooty? I think there's a bit of self-selection among Cunard passengers - they're not after the cheapest cruise experience and so Cunard passengers tend to be the ones with the inclination and means to pay more for a more elegant experience. As a result the passenger mix tends to be people who have had varied and enriching lives and generally make for good tablemates for a meal or a week of meals regardless of their ethnic heritage or where they grew up.

I think I understand what you mean, thank you. I only ask because when you look online at the youtube videos of cunard and princess and queen grille you only tend to see one type they show and that is the country club 1 percent types and it made me pause for a second.

  10. I think I would sink the ship if I ate like that...... Heck, I think I just gained 5 lbs. just thinking about it. :p

Usually about the 3rd or 4th day, I say, "Do we have to eat again!!!!!!!" The more I eat, the more exercise I need. And I don't like to exercise while cruising. Except taking the stairs as much as I can and walking when we are at the ports.

More power to the people that can eat like that and not gain weight. My husband is one of them.

    Enjoy.......

    Gwen :)

Oh I gain weight, the secret is to lose 5lb or so before the cruise i start 2 weeks out. I also get 2 to 3 workouts while on board.

I forgot to mention on port days Some I dont get off and the eating schedule remains but if i do i eat breakfast then lunch then leave and return for 2nd dinner and late snack.

  11. Hello,I think there has been some very sensible replies to this thread.Yesterday we booked October 17th cruise on the Queen Elizabeth. This will be our second on this ship and third with Cunard

Of course on cunard you get snobs but not many and of course you just ignore them.

We love the formallity of Cunard everyone knows how to behave and does.

    Rodger.

Yes thank you, I too enjoy the formalities and manners of old. Now

I'm not sure if I came across snobbery or racism because im a dark skinned italian and I think the Diamond plus member assumed I was part of the working staff even with nice attire on. So there is where I am at an impasse. I so yearn for the old days of manners and class and the formal attire however I do not want the full snobbery or perhaps bigotry that sometimes rares its ugly head.
