  1. I've HEARD that you can order from the MDR for room service. Like I said I've heard that from a couple of different sources but have never tried it myself.

I never heard about room service but we have gone to the MDR and placed an order to go. Waited for it and they bring it on covered dishes and we brought it back to our room, dessert and all.

  2. I never use the shuttle. Too many people and you have to wait for the bus to fill up. Then you have to have them wait to unload all the luggage. Then all those people that were on the bus with you are now in line.

I used to take taxis until I discovered Uber this last trip. Super affordable and way more convenient. You don't have to worry about the ship leaving you in the home port if you arrive in plenty of time.

Trust me I'm a dedicated Uber user at home and on travel, but in NO the Uber has to adhere to the flat taxi rate to/from the airport which is $70+! So no Uber this cruise. Only interested in hearing about Carnival transport vs Super Shuttle.

  3. You should bring mosquito repellent and/or bands on a cruise whether there is a virus present or not. Usually when any virus breaks out it takes time for them to recognize it so its better to be prepared then find out after the fact!

At most we always buy a pack of the armbands before every cruise. They are simple to use and we wear one on our ankle and one on our wrist and our bodies are covered.

  4. We have never done transfers before, but for our next sailing the cost of the Carnival transport to/from the port is the exact same as Super Shuttle, $24 each way. Are there any advantages to using Carnival for transfers?

Can those who have used Carnival transportation to or from port, in this caase New Orleans, please weigh in. Thanks!

  5. Hi,

The woman who took my reservation booked the 3 of us in a cabin (interior/Main Deck) for 2 (Cabin 223).

Can I just go online and book a Cabin for 3? Same Deck etc. I believe they are closed now. 9:17pm my time.

    Thanks,

    :). Bobbi

I didnt know it was possible to book 3 in a 2 person room? Even when we cruised with my 7 month old they insisted we had to have a 3 person room even though he would be in a crib and the bed would go unused. Did you book this through a TA or through a Carnival PVP?

  6. I use a waterproof digital camera. If need be I attach it to a selfie stick. Best of both worlds. I dont have a use for connecting a camera to a helmet or to my clothing or anything like that. I think Go Pros are for people who are going to be taking really active shots. I have dropped my camera in water before and had no problems, even with a 3 inch screen. It depends on what your using it for.

  7. Well maybe not weird... I know the PT class rooms have sofas, I have sailed in them twice. But for the life of me I cant remember if there is a vanity stool/backless chair in the room under the mirror/desk?

I'm speaking of the Dream class ships, of which I have yet to cruise on.

  8. So funny how you just casually speak for all the crews tipping habits. Not all cash tips are pooled, you have no proof of this beside maybe a few people who told you this, which is hearsay.

Agreed. I have 2 family members who work on 2 different lines. When you hand them an envelope with their name on it its over and above the auto-tips. Which is why I do it that way. I leave my gratuities on, but I also tip over and above each individual crewmember that gives me and my family great service.

They have a choice to pool if they want to, its NOT mandatory. Which is why I tip my head waiter and his 2 assistants all in separate envelopes. Same for my room stewards and if/when I get spa services, etc. They all get their own envelopes. I would never give the head anything something for a "team" whether on land or at sea.

  9. If you wear prescription classes bring an extra pair.

Bring a cheap waterproof watch and leave the Rolex at home. Why invite trouble on shore at that grubby little bar that looks like so much fun.

If you use a digital camera as opposed to a tablet or phone bring several low capacity photo cards (4 gig max) instead of one mega capacity (128 gig) card. If your camera get lost or stolen or the mega card in it poops the bed all your pictures will be gone. With smaller capacity cards you won't loose everything.

Make sure you can recharge all your electronic toys (pack your chargers) and bring a spare battery or two for your camera because all camera batteries die one shot before the best photo opp.

Pack an inexpensive battery powered travel alarm. No need to keep charging your phone.

Get a small rechargeable night light for the bathroom and charge it each day. A small pen light will see use when traveling so pack one.

Here's a big one. Call your credit card provider and tell them you will be on a cruise.

Pack a copy of [all] your doctors names and addresses plus list all medications you might be taking.

Make a copy of the photo page of your passport for your wallet/purse.

Make and print self adhesive address labels for those that you will be sending post cards to. Saves a ton of time or address mistakes when buying post cards while off the ship. We always try to locate a post office so our cards get mailed and cancelled from the place we were visiting. If you hand out going mail to the front desk of your ship your cards will not get mailed until the end of your cruise and from the port where the cruise ended.

Pack a very light weight hooded rain jacket and skip a travel umbrella. The least amount of stuff you drag with you off ship the better.

Bring a few hundred dollars in cash.

Now stop worrying, treat the staff that will be taking care of you like they're your best friends and enjoy your cruise.

Applause!! Especially for the last part!

  10. If you're worried about your room steward stealing your stuff---don't. We've left all kinds of stuff laying in the room and never had a problem. All the steward would need is someone accusing them of theft. They aren't usually going to take the risk of losing their job and being put off the ship. I won't say it's not ever going to happen; but I don't worry too much about it. Happy cruising! Bill

Noooo, not my intention at all. I have left jewelry and cash on the dresser without any problems. I just wanted to know what everyone does with their stuff. And if others bring as much as i do. I'm sure the crew sees much more expensive things then i have.

I have the utmost respect for the crew and especially the room stewards! I have 2 family members employed on cruise ships currently.

  11. You do know that the tips go into a pool. Also, you tip less then recommended.

How is it less then recommended? Done people don't top at all! It's an EXTRA tip on top of the auto gratuities. Plus i doubt it's shared cause i hand it to each individually in their own sealed envelopes and they usually pocket it immediately. I do the same with my room stewards and never had an issue.
