  1. So as an update on my flight situation.  They didn't try calling again as they said they would so I called Monday morning at 8:30 and again gave my number for a call back.  They said it would be 2 to 3 hours for a return call.  They finally called me at 5pm.

I spent over a half hour on the phone.  I told the person I wanted the flights that were now going to Fort Lauderdale instead of Miami - she obviously wasn't listening to me and quoted me new flights completely for more money of course.  I said again I wanted the times I had originally but now going to Fort Lauderdale instead of Miami.  She finally got it.  Said she would put a request into Air Canada for the change and if approved, the change would be at no extra cost.  She then said she was having system issues and would call back in a few minutes.  She didn't call back.

I called again yesterday and actually got through to a person after about 15 minutes on hold.  They were able to look into it right away.  She looked at the notes and the request was put in to Air Canada and it could take up to 7 days to get a response.

Now it is a waiting game.

  2. I booked our flights from Vancouver to Miami return through Celebrity.  Normally I book my own, but with COVID-19 I thought I would go this route this time.

All was good until Friday.  Got an email that the departure changed from 6:30am to 6:00 am.  No big deal.  I was away for a few days and when I got home, hubby asks, what's with the 23:30 departure the night before?    WE DO NOT DO RED EYE FLIGHTS!  We did one on our honeymoon 20 years ago and never again!

I called Flights By Celebrity today while waiting for a flight at the Vancouver airport for a work trip to Niagara Falls.  All they would do was take my name and number and said they would call me back.  Of course they called while I was in the air on the plane.  Said they would call back.... nothing yet.

Good news on two fronts.  This is for a November cruise so lots of time to figure it out.  The other is I figured out they changes the same flights to go to Fort Lauderdale instead of Miami so still doable.  Just a bit more of an Uber fee to get to our Air BNB we booked! 🙂

We just booked a cruise on the Eclipse for January 2024 and Celebrity have changed the cabin categories. We wanted what was a 1A at the 1B price and we have a DV veranda 8252 (formerly a 1A) with no one category upgrade. It looks like Celebrity have removed one more per

We have booked the one on the other side on the Silhouette in November - 8279.  Still the 1A category til next year

  4. Hi all,

I searched but couldn't find any pictures or info for sure.

Since refurbishment, do the large balconies on the hump on the Silhouette still have both regular chairs and lounge chairs?

This pic is from our cruise on the Reflection in January 2020.

Woo hoo! Believe testing on outbound international as well as domestic flights is still in place. Waiting for an announcement on these flights but would think that some sort of coordination with US entry requirements will be required.

The article originally stated this but has since been corrected to say vaccination is still required

  6. We just returned from our last cruise at the beginning of 2020 before COVID-19 hit.

Our 20th wedding anniversary is next year and I’m itching to book something.  Prices are reasonable compared to what we paid for a 10 day Caribbean we did last year.

For those who have cruised recently how is the experience?  I’ve been avoiding the boards to not get the itch sooner but  can’t stop myself anymore!

  7. We had a great cruise on the Reflection in January returning home from Fort Lauderdale to Vancouver Canada on January 21st, little did we know at the time that travel and vacations would be changing for a long time.

We are not people that can cruise multiple times a year.  If we are lucky we can do one a year but sometimes skip a year or two.  Normally I'm looking at possibilities of where we can go next, but with what is happening in the world now, not even something I want to look at.

I dream of being on the balcony having coffee in the morning and looking at the ocean on a sea day or the excitement of getting ready for a day in port.

Whatever cruising looks like in the future I'm sure it will be different than anything we have experienced ever but it will become the new normal I'm sure.

Kudos to all the employees who are on the ships keeping them seaworthy while being away from their families.

Another example of why I tell people never to book flights before noon (although in this case, they might miss that one too), and why I go ballistic when people on these boards tell others not to worry - they made an 8:30 flight so you can definitely make it too  It is fairly rare, but this stuff can and DOES happen.  Have had at least two occurrences where we could not disembark before 9:00 am.   If you must book early flights, have a back-up plan.  Because if you cruise long enough, eventually you will need it.

This is another reason we usually stay at least one more night 🙂

  9. We booked our January 10th cruise about 18 months out with 2 perks.  After a couple of small price drops and a promotion with 3 perks our final price was $4650 CDN total for a 1A on the hump (large balcony) for a 10 day cruise.  Since then, when I’ve checked prices it was as high as 10k and before there was little to no available cabins left about $7500 CDN.

Glad I booked that far out.

Do you don't do any land-only trips?

Our land trips have always been to visit family in central Canada (Saskatchewan). We have been to Hawaii twice, one for just a land trip and one prior to a cruise.

We have only done an all inclusive once, will try again and hopefully not break my foot this time. 😃

  11. We are staying at the Marriott Beach Place and will be attending a hockey game at BB&T Center, plus shopping at Sawgrass Mills which is across the street from it.  Would it be cheaper to rent a car or take Uber do you think?  I have priced a car at $72  CDN for day, and Uber estimate is about $30US, but that isn't during surge pricing during a game.

    Anyone have experience with this?

    TIA
