  1. I know cruises are not like land. I've been on two Disney cruises and loved them.

The NYC bar thing (besides a very simple way to do 2-for-X drinks for people not together) was in reference to the statement that the bartenders and servers are "extremely busy" being the reason they don't do something similar on the ships. NYC bars are extremely busy too, especially during happy hour - and they still manage the system.

But it's all good. I'll play it by ear - I know the day we're in Juneau I'll miss any evening activities because my whale watching excursion is at 6pm. :)

  2. If you watch how the stewards are racing around, and the bartenders pouring with two hands, you would agree they are working very hard.

It's much easier on them to get both drinks out at the same time.

You've never been to a bar at happy hour in NYC I guess. I get that they're busy. Which will make me not feel guilty for not getting anything. Clearly they won't need my money on drinks.

  3. Both drinks are served at the same time. Or, you can just order a double.

It's two of the same drink.

Thanks. Guess I'll be using it for stocking up on diet Coke then. Interesting they make you take them at the same time. Every bar I've ever been to in NYC that has two-for-one (or buy one get one for $1 or $2) if you're only buying one gives you a ticket or token to turn in. Yes, it has to be turned in before the end of happy hour, but you don't have to cart two drinks around.

  4. Yes -- it opens at 11:30 every day including embarkation day. On embarkation day it will close down right before lifeboat drill but will open back up when that is over.

Great news!! Thanks for the information! Definitely where I plan to eat on Saturday.

  5. Do the fridges have a freezer section? I know the cooling boxes (on the Wonder) don't. On the other hand, one of our "cooling boxes" on the Wonder was cold enough to form ice crystals in our sodas in there. ;)

It's not a formal freezer, but like most of the dorm-type fridges I've encountered there's a little section with a suspended metal tray that seems to cool slightly more than the rest of the fridge. I know when I was on the Dream in February my sister and I ordered Mickey Bars with something else from room service and they sent 4 bars, so 2 of them got put in that section and one was still there (and "pre-breakfast dessert") on the last morning.

  6. About to be new to Holland America here. If you're traveling solo, do they give you a ticket or a coin for the second for a dollar? Or do you have to get it at the same time?

I do like the idea of stocking up on diet Coke though. Can you mix and match? Like get one beverage and one unopened can of diet Coke?
