  1. This thread currently just above yours would perhaps be interesting reading for you. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2913447-dock-in-greenock-glasgow-or-edinburgh/#comment-67536072 As would other past threads containing the words Greenock, Glasgow, Dublin and Belfast. Find them in seconds using the exzcellent SEARCH tool.
  2. For Glasgow you will first need to make your way there from Greenock which is where you will actually dock. There is a frequent train service from Grenock Central Station to Glasgow Central Station. The VisitGlasgow.com website should have all the info you need to plan your time there, and as Glasgow has an excellent public transport system (buses, suburban trains, subway)you may not even need a HOHO, although it depends which sights of personal interest to you you choose to visit. The more you look into that website the more you will find. As an example, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum can be easily reached by bus(stops outside) or subway.(5 minute walk, turn left as you exit the subway station) from close to Central Station and the George Square area. Bus #100 actually stops at both Kelvingrove and the Riverside Museum and leaves from both George Square and Central Station so that would be an easy option from Greenock should you choose both sights.. To help you decide, reviews of Glasgow sights and attractions can be easily found on Tripadvisor.
  3. Taxi drivers and/or their vehicles are usually identified by a registered taxi number In addition to the licence plate number. You could have perhaps noted his personal number and reported him to the relevant local authority otherwise he may continue doing this.
  4. You wouldn't actually be in the car for that length of time unless you choose to only drive around. Most peolpe will get out of whatever vehicle they are in and walk around or walk to the unique sights which Iceland offers. Our tour from Akureyri had a number of stops, not just one or two.
  5. Could still be a helpful fall back should you get few replies from CC members who actually took time out from exploring Venice and surrounding islands.
  6. If it is of any interest to you, passengers on our sailing on private tours and also the shorex, did not go to Marrakesh I think due to the distance. They instead went to RABAT, the capital of Morocco. There are very few past threads for Rabat but maybe one or two would be helpful https://boards.cruisecritic.com/search/?q=rabat&quick=1&type=forums_topic&nodes=19 Casablanca https://boards.cruisecritic.com/search/?q=casablanca&quick=1&type=forums_topic&nodes=19 Marrakesh there is almost nothing, perhaps with good reason? https://boards.cruisecritic.com/search/?q=marrakesh&quick=1&type=forums_topic&nodes=19
  7. You could always try googling "Venice food tour reviews" and" Venice cookery classes reviews". Google really could become your new best friend.😁
  8. As far as I know, Turyol ferries do not offer "tours" as such. They are ferries running to different locations along the Bosphorous, and also offer the "round trp" sail of the Bosphorous. Unless there have been changes post pandemic, if you want an actual "tour" I think you would need to book with a different company.
  9. That is a short time for a Livorno port day. Because of this, I would recommend you go with the Lucca option as it is much closer and you will have time to enjoy this pretty town. And as pointed out above, no tour is actually needed as it is an easy enough DIY from Livorno, and a popular one with cruise pax who explore independently. Can be done as a "standalone" or with careful planning for the short time you have, combined with a brief stop in Pisa for a photo op with the Tower. If you have not already searched for and read past threads, reading some could be helpful. Choose from these Lucca https://boards.cruisecritic.com/search/?q=lucca&quick=1&type=forums_topic&nodes=464 San Gimignano https://boards.cruisecritic.com/search/?q="San Gimignano"&quick=1&type=forums_topic&nodes=464&updated_after=any&sortby=relevancy
  10. Yes we did find many taxis at the dock, and as I already posted, there was one man in charge organising taxi tours, but that may have changed post pandemic. Our driver may have had a little english (none of us spoke Spanish, but I cannot remember. Whatever, we had a good tour and in Vicuna we saw other passengers from our ship so it was a popular tour. Note that taxi drivers are not usually tour guides, so if information is important to you, if you can access it beforehand or while you are there, that would be helpful. The pisco tastings were in english as a small group of fellow pax had also arrived, a drive is a drive, and the walk we did in Vicuna was self explanatory. I suggest you try to get more up-to-date info from cruise pax who visited over this past winter.
  11. Other lines dock at downown locations meaning just walk of ship and you are there, saving money and gaining extra time as not losing the 2 X transfer times and the lines to board the transfers..
  12. whilst many vendors will accept credit or debit cards as payment, you may be paying a higher price, and for smaller purchases and incidentals it is always useful to have some local cash currency. Tour guides would usually be happy to accept tips in turkish lira, £s, US$s or euros.
  13. The Archaeological Museum should be of interest as you have already visited Pompeii. And the views from the Castel Sant Elmo mentioned above are jaw droppingly fabulous on a clear day. There is a viewing area and telescopes. You might also enjoy taking the little funicular up and it is only a short walk from there. the Cloister of Santa Chiara and "Christmas St." ( Via San Gregorio Armeno) are also within walking distance. Reviews of all on Tripadvisor to help you decide. No need to look for pizza as it is sold everywhere.
  14. Sorry to disappoint but we no longer have that info. The taxi driver paid our boat tickets to the boatman and we reimbursed him, and we paid him for his taxi tour of the Paracas National Park and the short time we spent in Paracas itself. We paid cash for every element of the day. We both remember that the boat trip cost was minimal, thinking under the equivalent of $10 pp maybe even as low as around $5, and at the dock the taxi driver quoted us a very low(for us) fixed price for the tour to which we agreed. It wasn't metered, he didn't rush us, and despite the language issues he really tried to show us the top sights in the Nat Park. And as he didn't even try to increase the agreed price once back at the dock we did actually tip generously.. You have choices. You could pay more and try to join a tour out of Lima or Pisco, as visitors do actually travel that far to visit, although I expect you will have to pay as if you had travelled from Lima or Pisco, or you could take your chances at the dock, or as referred to above, you could take a HAL shuttle if there is one and try for a taxi tour from the drop off square mentioned.Or, ou could maybe arrange not to join a tour, but instead arrange a private small group tour with fellow passengers on your sailing where the company will collect you from the dock and return you there. I think you would have a better chance of them actually turning up than we had as they would not have to divert a group to the port to pick us up nor divert again at the end. Have you joined any Roll Call for your sailing? What are others doing? Has anyone already arranged a private tour and looking for others to share?. Do carefully read the other posts on this thread as HAL shuttles are mentioned and post #6 gives the name of a company through which a private tour was arranged. You could also search online for standalone boat trip costs, also local taxi tours. And maybe try Tripadvisor for Ballestas Islands and/or Paracas National Park reviews as some may give more detailed info. We had a really good day and I hope you do too as there is nothing in the town itself .
  15. If it will be dark there will be very little to see anyway, so a commentary won't be that important IMHO Daytime cruising is wonderful and with fairly close cruising you see a lot. We used a Turyol ferry for ours, and as our guidebook (DK) had a double page description with photos of the buildings along the way we referred to that and no commentary was needed. Fellow passengers were also referring to guidebooks, printed sheets or their phones for the same descriptions. so the information is out there waiting to be found. A daytime Bosphorus cruise is one of the top things to do in Istanbul. A Bosphorus cruise In darkness maybe not so much.
  16. Searching for "Venice food tour" on this Italy ports thread produced these results. Not all will be relevant but a few may be https://boards.cruisecritic.com/search/?q=venice food tour&quick=1&type=forums_topic&nodes=464&updated_after=any&sortby=relevancy&search_and_or=and Or try this "pinned" thread at the very top of this Italy Forum. As it is very long you might want to try the SEARCH tool on it. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2796246-italy-all-things-food-and-wine-related/page/3/#comment-62166271 Or simply try internet searching. Google may become your new best friend.😀
  17. Reading the replies above, members are trying to be helpful in saying saying that it could be either side and that being on an upper deck would be better than sitting on your balcony in case you are on the "wrong" side. Our Captain had given an approximate arrival time either over the tannoy or in the daily programme, although I cannot remember which. Passengers began assembling on an upper open deck shortly before then although it got busier once it was realised that there was some action. The little white moving lights puzzled everyone for a while until someone in the know said they were headlights or torches, the wearing of which were apparently mandatory for Stromboli night hiking.
  18. Simples. Position yourselves on an outside deck somewhere you could move easily from one side to the other, and also the bow. Cannot remember where we were coming from or going to, but our night viewing was starboard forward from where we saw lots of small eruptions. Captain lingered there for around an hour as there was quite a bit of low-key activity. We could also see the headlamps and/or torches of those doing night hiking on Stromboli
  19. Reading past threads might throw up a few ideas and/or suggestions. Giving you past threads for both Heraklion and Chania hoping that one will be the port which either, or both of you, will be porting in. Choose from these Chania https://boards.cruisecritic.com/search/?q=chania&quick=1&type=forums_topic&nodes=463 Heraklion https://boards.cruisecritic.com/search/?q=heraklion&quick=1&type=forums_topic&nodes=463 And looking at shorex should throw up some ideas even should you not want to book one, also the usual websites such as "(name of town) Tourist Information", Tripadvisor, Youtube, Frommer's, Fodors, Rick Steves and any others which appear in your online searches. And if you have not already done so, join any Roll Call for your sailing and ask what others are doing. A fellow passengers may even have arranged a private tour and is looking for others to join them.
  20. Ward Cove is actually much closer to Totem Bight than other docking locations. If you have not already visited Totem Bight, it could be worth considering for one of your days. Reading past threads might help you decide. Choose from these https://boards.cruisecritic.com/search/?q=totem bight&quick=1&type=forums_topic&nodes=33
  21. Sometimes for all the wrong reasons.😁
  22. the OFFICIAL "port of XYZ" websites are often better, as they give not only the names of the ships, but the number of passengers, which port each is coming from and the next one, and more importantly a number also give the actual docking berth name or number which is useful if there are a number of possible berths/locations, (such as Lisbon although there are also others)
  23. alserrod, he also loved the South of France, living for many years in different towns including Antibes, Vallauris and Mougins.😀
  24. Same with countries such as Canada and the Far East when there have been many many hours time difference and it affected us for a number of days. OTOH flying TO the US has only required a couple of days.
  25. We have enjoyed a number of cruiseline charter flights over the years, usually with UK cruiselines, but back in the day we had a Princess one from a local airport which flew us to Quebec for a Canada/New England itinerary. Whatever happened to these charters?
