  1. Totally agree with OceansOfTravels........rule of 'thumb'.....put anything that are "must haves" in your carry on....especially medication! I also carry with me at all times my jewelry (even if it is only more like 'cotume' jewelry that I take on cruises) and my electronics (like ipad, phone, chargers etc).

Ditto! Jewelry (both good and costume), always on my carry on!

    Also my cameras!

  2. I'm taking my 2nd Royal Cruise in Oct 2018 in the Mediterranean on the new ship. I have been cruising Carnival where this is the policy. We figured if you drink at least 6 alcoholic beverages per day, then it was well worth it.

I checked our bill at the end of our trip, and we did save some money. For us it was more peace of mind not having a surprise bill at the end.

I probably will not do this on our Mediterranean cruise due to we will be off the ship I think more than on the ship.

  3. When was the last time you were on splendor?

When I was on conquest in April they changed the adult aft pool to allow kids & there were a ton.. it was spring break..I was told it was changed on all ships that had the adult aft pool.. then a few weeks later I read where they had changed it back to adult only on splendor... I haven't been able to find any more info since the one post... I loved the adult aft pool & even book a room aft so it's easy access... I am on splendor in October for 2 sailings so I am hoping for adult only!

    Thanks

I'm on her this Halloween for the 2nd time. We love the Splendor mainly for the adult aft pool! I hope it stays/reverts back to adult only!

  4. Have any of you been snorkeling in Freeport since Hurricane Matthew? If so, what do you have to say about it? We're thinking about booking a snorkeling trip with Pat & Diane's for our upcoming cruise in a few weeks but not if the snorkeling is going to be so-so at best.

We booked with Pat and Diane's a few years ago and the day we got to Freeport it rained. I called Diane, she called off the tour, she didn't charge me card. She was great... I really wish I got to do the tour though

  5. Just a heads up, you will not get lobster night in the Mediterranean (and frankly, a lot of cruises that do not sail around or out of the US). I love lobster night and always look forward to it, but when we did an Eastern Mediterranean cruise a few years ago, no lobster. Just wanted to give you proper expectations.

Also, if you're leaving out of Rome (Civitavecchia) make sure to be careful. There are A LOT of pick pocketers that are very good and I have seen tons of posts on here about people in Rome and other parts of Europe getting pick pocketed. One person in my group got his wallet pick pocketed and lost $1,000 while we were in Rome, on the subway, so make sure to be vigilant and keep things where they can't be accessed by others.

On the boardwalk level balcony cabins, many think it is a good idea to get one towards the back so that you can see the ocean, aquatheatre, etc. They can be very loud with all the noises from the boardwalk, as an FYI.

Have fun and enjoy your cruise on what is bound to be a very beautiful ship!

Thank you! I have been to Italy before and I'm very careful.... I grew up in the city of Philadelphia, so I have eyes on the back of my head as they say! Lol

Lobster isn't my thing on a ship, so it's not a deal breaker.... Now if it was Logostino, different story! Lol

So I have state room 4D- 8214 Ocean View Balcony, so that a normal ocean balcony, right?

  6. My girlfriend just got off the Carnival Liberty yesterday, and we will be leaving on a 7 day cruise aboard the Carnival Freedom on Saturday. We were under the assumption we would have priority boarding on the next cruise because she attains Platinum status during the cruise.

When we went to print boarding passes she was still Gold status and her last cruise hadn't even posted yet. I called Carnival and the rep told me that she would not be Platinum on the next cruise because she wouldn't have the appropriate number of days until the fifth day, which is more than halfway past the cruise.

This is the first time I have heard of this. I am Red and will be attaining Gold status on the next cruise and they already have me listed at Gold on their website. Seems like with Carnival the higher up you go the more they try to screw you over.

Has anybody else had any experience with this?

Yes, my husband was Gold by the last cruise and it did not reflect. He went to guest services and they corrected it. I will be good on this cruise, so now I'm wondering if they will give me a gold card or red??

  7. The Vista is an amazing ship... Lots to do, just not enough time. Downside is the lines to the shows were awful! We barely saw one CV comedy show and one rock of ages show... Oh and both venues are poorly designed.... There are poles or glass partitions in the way in each place.

They cut back on the crew, so those poor workers kill themselves! So if your a drinker, you will be waiting awhile to get a drink! Lol

  8. Wow, that must be a loud fan if your phone isn't loud enough. My husband has inner ear problems, so white noise is a must to have for him to sleep. He has an app on his phone and he turns it up. He has a iPhone, not sure if that makes a difference in volume.

There is an app called Sleepbug that has tons of sounds on it. It's great!

  9. Download the Carnival Hub before you get on the ship. It's a great resource! It even has an IM on it!

Bring towel clips (you can find them at Wal-Mart). So when your out at the pool they keep your towels in place and others won't mistaken your chair for theirs! (And no I do not reserve my chair at AM)

Pack a highlighter for anything you want to remember in all the paperwork they put in your rooms.

Magnetic hooks are great! Get the ones found in a hardware store so they are strong holding. Also get the magnet clips to hold things like the fun times! Or excursion tickets that you do not want to lose

Hairdryers in rooms are not strong, so if you have thicker hair, bring your own. (I bought a strong travel one on Amazon they weighs 1.2 lbs)

Don't miss the chocolate extravaganza the last sea day... It's about 1pm. (I missed this my first 2 cruises)

Bring an old gift card if you need it to keep the lights on in your cabin like the Vista has.

If you have needs for outlets, being a power strip (new) and one without the surge protector on there.

If you like a late night snack and don't want pizza or to stand in a long line for food... Right around dinner, go to the deli, get a wrap sandwich, wrap it in a cloth napkins and put in your fridge. It does not get soggy.

On your debarkation morning, you can still eat breakfast in the MDR and relax.

Bring your own Yeti cup (or whatever your preference is) for mixed drinks by the pool. They will fill them up fg or you and your drinks will stay cold!

Mist of all enjoy!! As someone else mentioned... You can't do everything, so don't worry and sit back and enjoy! Carpe Di Em!!

  10. That sounds like a great location - easy access to Central Park area, which is one of my favourite spots on Oasis class ships. I have never needed extra hangers but if you do, ask your cabin attendant. I don't wear hats so cannot answer that but I guess you could. I am sure people who have stayed in balcony cabins will let you know if there are any specific things that you might benefit from bringing but I have always found everything I have needed is already there.

As I said, I have never had an issue hanging dresses in the cabins I have stayed in... I mean, I am only 5'4'', so my dresses aren't like 6' long or anything ;)

Lol good to know about the closets..... I'm the same height and I do bring long dresses. The closets just looked short. Carnival gives us to large closets to hand and one large with shelves... I'm just use to that I guess and want to be prepared for the RCI cabin.

Thank you again for your replies! [emoji3]

  11. I myself mention that in this forum yesterday perhaps In This Very thread I don't recall. However, subsequently I had an opportunity to take a look at the room service menu on Carnival. It's really really thin in my estimation. Unless I'm missing something, comparing room service on Carnival to room service on Royal Caribbean or Holland America or Princess doesn't really have much Merit.

This message may have been entered using voice recognition. Please excuse any typos.

Your correct, there is not a big menu on Carnival. The free stuff is all cold food. The charged food, like cheesesteaks, are an up charge.

Does RCI have fridges on their new/re ships?

  12. The ship most similar will be Harmony. The other Oasis class ships are Allure and Oasis - they are similar in size and general facilities. All the ships have slight differences though.

I have sailed on Allure and Harmony and had no issue with hanging dresses, there was plenty of room.

Cabin wise it does depend what you want - interior, oceanview, neighbourhood view, balcony, suite etc. I generally stay in suites and have stayed on decks 7 and 9 near the aft set of elevators. Both were great locations. I have also had a forward facing oceanview on deck 9 which was lovely, larger than the standard oceanview and in a very quiet location.

    Thank you for your reply.

We actually booked an ocean balcony on deck 8 mid ship. Is there any tips for the cabin such as do you bring extra hangers, or magnetic hooks for hanging hats and such...

So the closets are long? From pictures they seem short.

  13. "Your competitors do this. Holland America, Princess, MSC, NCL, even Carnival. Please match their offerings, it would be appreciated for our vacation dollars"

Asking any company to match a competitive offering isn't really a tough argument to make. You're letting the company know an area they can improve on that would satisfy you. RCI spends plenty of time giving surveys and talking about surveys; I'm a bit cynical, but some may say they use those surveys to improve things.

Carnival does not charge for room service, however.... There are a few items on the menu that are at a cost.

  14. This will be our 2nd time on the Splendor Oct 29th.

We loved her. It took some getting use to, ( the floor plans are way diff from the others in the fleet).

We were in Deck 8 and had great service there as well as Nancy in the YTD. I love the adult pool!

I do have a review with pics from our last cruise Nov 8th 2015.
