  1. Hi, have a question.... What cruise line did you arrive on? We are on Carnival, never been to Jamaica, so I don't don't if there are more than one port. I'm asking only because I definitely want to stay at a Secrets resort for a day. I've been to some of their others for long stays, and they are all outstanding!

I want to make sure it is within reason to get to from wherever Carnival docks at.

    Thanks!

  2. Several years ago, my wife requested that our stateroom steward remove the mini-bar items from the "refrigerator" so she could put her carryon wine in it. Every time she used the word "refrigerator," he corrected her saying that it was a chiller. At first I thought that this was a language barrier, but after further investigation, I discovered that he was indeed correct, it is a chiller and not a refrigerator.

Yes and they are also called coolers. A mini version of the big ones with glass doors you get your Pepsi out of at the mini marts! Lol!

  3. I don't think so. One of the excluded drinks is "floaters" which may also include double shots. Because then, technically, someone could have 30 drinks instead of 15! Kind of stinks though because I like my Miami Vices' with a floater to cut the sweetness ;)

You can still do that. Just order your shot first, wait 5 min, then order your Miami vice. We did that with shots and beer chasers one night. Everything is time stamped, so the bartender cannot put in the two drinks at one time. It stinks but it is what it is.

  4. We'll be going here next month. We have an excursion to Atlantis booked through Disney, and 2 of us will be separately taking a taxi to Atlantis to get an observer pass.

I'm wondering though how bad the port itself is... I've seen posts in this thread saying it is horrible, and others saying it is fine.

You will be fine, just always look to your surroundings, keep your valuables tucked away, wallet etc....

Best tip for the Atlantis, do not leave any valuables on chairs when not occupied and invest in their $20 locker rentals.

The water park there is amazing! You will have a blast!

  5. There are plenty of chairs! We got there about 10AM, we were one of the first ones to get to jacks.

They have great Grouper sandwiches, conch fritters, cracked conch, burgers, chicken...... Good stuff to choose from! I don't remember the prices, but my husband and I had 3 items off the menu, a bucket of beer, and a few cocktails and my bill was a bit over $100

  6. I feel like Nassau is a cesspool. We got there on February 5th at 12pm. I got off the ship and walked in a group of 4 through the port. We were hard sold scooters by 3 men who would not get out of our face. I kept repeating no thank you we are not interested and that only fueled them to become more insistent. I am a big guy, 6'6" 235lbs, and I literally felt as though the 3 of them wanted to fight me. We finally got past those three, took 5 steps and another group trying to push scooters approached. We didn't say a word and just walked past all the while they kept walking in front of us pushing a price list in our faces.

There was a pungent sewage odor and dead fish odor in Nassau that day. I haven't been there in 10+ years and man has it gone to the toilet. We finally got to walking towards the straw market. On the way there a kid tried giving us "free" Bahamas bracelets. We said no but watched him give the bracelets to 2 other passengers, tie them on their wrists and demand 10 dollars. Once they were tied on the wrist, 2 grown adults came behind the little boy asking why the tourists were trying to steal. They paid the 10 dollars and scurried away.

We continued to walk and I was asked to buy drugs 3x by people I walked past. We got to the straw market and it basically was all the same low quality junk everywhere. Nothing cultural and things all were mass produced Chinese products of low quality. We decided at 1250 to head back to the ship as we just felt uncomfortable in Nassau. We started to walk back and my friend said quietly within our group that he wanted to buy two cigars for coworkers who were watching over his clients. Immediately the guy walking in front of us stopped and said " you want cigars?" he turned, opened his backpack and tried hard selling some cigars from his bag. That was our breaking point. I finally realized I will never book another cruise that stops here ever again. I even made a comment that I wonder if the reason ships continue to stop here is to empty their bowels of waste, it was that bad in my eyes. A waste of a stop, horrible people, aggressive tactics, and just plain dirty. I would say enjoy the ship, but the ship was still so full it felt like most people shared my sentiments.

I am going to have to agree. I have been there 8 times since 1993. The first two times were on my first honeymoon and a vacation. It use to be beautiful! Back then we still had people trying to sell us hard core dugs. My husband smoked with a local on a booze cruise and whatever they gave him was laced with some kind of drug. He was sick for 24 hrs straight! We met another local that got us wristbands, a hotel room for the day, and towels, (you had to have a room then to ck out a towel), at the Atlantis for $15 pp. the scams they have going on there are incredible! Another time at he Atlantis I was laying on a chaise when I witnessed Atlantis employees, steal someone's belongings off a chair and then lie about it when the person came back looking for his stuff. I went to security to let them know but they weren't concerned. It's trashy there. I hate that port. Unfortunately we will be back in November. I was going to go to Blue Lagoon a Island, but someone said that's now trashy too!

  7. In 2012 my husband and my stepson flew in the day of going on the Sensation. When we got to the airport at 6am to check in, I realized that my stepsons passport was missing...... I made copies at Staples the day before, and guess where it still was! Thank God I'm OCD and had his birth certificate and the copy of his passport with me. I had to wake up my best friend at 6 am to tell her to call Staples when they open and grab the passport.

  8. I was on Splendor on the Nov 9th sailing out of Miami. We were a total of 14. We loved it! The ship, as others noted, had a weird layout, but you do get use to it. I loved the adult pool in the back of the ship. I thought the food is good, don't expect 5star gourmet for the price you paid for the cruise.

The staff was excellent and the rooms were always clean and spacious.

I was on the ship when they had a minor engine room fire, it was handled excellently with no interruptions.

You will have a great time! Enjoy! It was one of my favorite ships!

  9. My daughter doesn't have the same last name as anyone in my family. We've never been asked about it.

You didn't think you needed a letter but you had one for your daughter's friend AND you traveled with your divorce decree and marriage licence?

Were you on a Carnival cruise?

Where did they "pull her aside" to without you being present?

This thread is a great example of fear mongering.

First, I did think ahead.... I called to ask and they said just bring your divorce paper showing the same last name as well as my new marriage license....

And they pulled her just away from me in the terminal... About 15 feet from me in plain view.

Bottom line.... Take your full custody paperwork. If they ask then you will be prepared.

  10. So once again, the not needed letter was not needed.

And the other situation just goes to show how stupid the whole thing is in the first place.

The letter is supposedly to prevent people kidnapping children, usually a parent, but who knows.

So having the paper would prevent what? Easiest way in the world to kidnap a child. Let the parent with custody just give you permission to take them.

Actually it was. Besides my daughters answering the questions while I was not present, I also had my divorce and new marriage license with me that showed I had the same name and that I was now remarried. That's what they are really looking for is the same last name.

When we take my step son, they never question us for parental permission notarized notes.

  11. Circa 39 is fantastic! Great prices! Use a TA and you will get a better price. The breakfast there is wonderful and they give you 2 beach chairs per stay. It's 3 blocks from Fountainbleau and 5 min from downtown south beach. I think it was 35 for cab to port of Miami

  12. I apologize if I am repeating what some else has said, but there are too many to read.

I traveled with my 16yr old daughter a few years ago. I am remarried, (different last name as hers). I have full custody. They asked me for the paperwork! I didn't know I needed it.... I almost did not get on the ship! They pulled my daughter aside and asked her questions, then let us board. So if you have custody paperwork... That's all you will need.

I also had her 16 yr old friend with us with a notarized permission from her mom... No questions asked.
