  1. Can you please share how you lost those 46 lbs. i need to lose 16 lbs.

I was at 233 as of Nov. 2015, after my Halloween cruise to the Bahamas and Florida. I decided I had to get serious and tried to cut back. After 3 months I'd only lost about 7 pounds to 226 so I signed up for Nutrisystem. I was on Nutrisystem from February 2016 until July. Then I realized I was able to maintain the diet without the Nutrisystem food. So altogether I probably lost about 53 pounds though I count the start of my diet at the time I began the Nutrisystem program.

Basically the Nutrisytem program (and my own) is based on caloric intake. You're allowed about 1500 calories a day (for men, about 1300 for women). I eat three small meals per day of 250-350 calories and two 150 calorie snacks (one for women). It's OK to occasionally go higher.

  2. Bit of a strange one. I am a poor sleeper and have heard that mattresses can be very hard on RCI ships. Is there a night time etiquette in public places on the ships? I would be prone to getting out of bed if very unsettled and going reading a book or similar in another room of the house. Would it be a big no no to go to the library or other public area in pjs during the night if unable to sleep?

I have sleep issues as well. I find that a quiet, dark inside cabin, located away from public areas and elevators, makes it easier for me to get to sleep. If I do wake up in the middle of the night I have my Kindle Paperwhite, which is lighted, so I can read without turning on the lights and disturbing my wife.

  3. Have a great cruise, Belle!

Well, I made it to my goal weight of 180, so this will be the last time I'm checking in for awhile (though I'll still refer to this forum to see how folks are doing). I would like to lose a few more pounds in the run-up to Thanksgiving as I know I'll overeat then.

My total weight loss has been 46 pounds and, honestly, after the first month, it hasn't been that difficult an experience. I found it hard to wean myself from overeating but, once I did, it wasn't that hard to keep it going.

    Good luck to everyone!

  4. I have been thinking:

Our budget stretches to a balcony room, probably without sofa, I am thinking forward to midships, but any tips as to which part of the ship this should be in would be gratefully received. Also, Port or Starboard?

Also, any tips generally would be much appreciated.

Be sure to look at your ship's deck plan. You don't want a cabin directly under or over a public area - the noise will be very disturbing. Also don't get a cabin close to the elevator, again due to noise issues.

  5. Good morning Belle and everyone.

I'm pleased to report that I'm down 1.5 pounds to 180.5, virtually at my goal weight of 180. I have a feeling next week will be my last week posting to this thread (unless I have to get back to the diet, which is always a possibility). This is a wonderful thread as it's given me the motivation that I've needed to stick with my eating plan, week after week. Thank you, Belle, for keeping this thread going.

For me there are several keys to weight loss.

    1. Keep a balanced diet.

    2. Find out what you have to do to lose weight (basically eating much less than you're used to).

    3. Include snacks (psychologically necessary).

    4. When you go out to eat (we all do) watch the carbs.

    5. Drink lots of liquids.

    6. Include regular exercise.

  6. Good morning.

Time to buy Halloween candy. This could be a major problem for me as I love candy, especially candy with nuts. My wife prefers chocolate so together we'll eat almost everything.

Today I was happy to see another loss - 1 1/2 pounds to 182. If my pattern holds I'll be lucky to maintain that weight until next Thursday (especially considering Halloween temptations).

I hope everyone is doing OK.

  7. I stayed the same, 183.5, 3.5 pounds away from my goal. Since last February I've lost 42.5 pounds and I hope I never put it back on.

With all the focus on my weight loss and that of my wife, who is having success with Weight Watchers, we hadn't realized that our cruise is coming up and were surprised when our travel agent advised us that final payment was due. In less than three months we'll be in the beautiful Caribbean!

  8. HI all!

Well Belle I was very weak but then it was Thanksgiving. I'm up 0.2 lbs.

CruisermanVA ~ nice loss, congrats! You must be doing something right!

I won't be checking in next week as I'll be in beautiful Barcelona before boarding Carnival Vista. Sure to be bad news when I return as there's a new Guy's Pig & Anchor onboard as well as several other yummy venues.

    You all be good now!

    ~ Jo ~ :)

Enjoy your cruise and don't worry about the calories!

  9. Good morning.

I had a good week. I tried to keep my restaurant eating under control and it paid off - I lost 2.5 lbs to 183.5. It's a pattern for me. I have a nice loss followed by a gain and then another loss. If the pattern holds next week I'll probably gain (though I hope I won't).

    I hope everyone did well.

  10. Sorry for the late check in this week. We were in the storm path and life has been massively complicated :) No damage, but were without power/water for a bit. Many in our town still are.

Anyway, I was down 1.4 at weigh in (Yea!)

However, really fell off the wagon during the storm. Too much Junk+anxiety is not a good combo. Hoping to make up for it before next weigh in.

    Congrats to those who lost!

I'm sorry you had to deal with the rain and wind. It must have been a scary experience. I'm sure losing weight was the last thing on your mind.

  11. Nice poem, Belle. I share your feelings about the folks in the path of hurricane Matthew. It must be a terrible feeling to see it bearing down on you. It's possible, but unlikely, that it will make its way to northern Virginia.

I didn't have a successful week as I gained a pound to 186. I'm not sure why I gained but it's probably due to eating at restaurants a couple of times. I hope to do better next week.

I hope everyone has a good week with their weight loss plans and otherwise.

  12. Good morning!

I really tried to stay on course this week - and then Tuesday evening came. My singing group had a "sweets" party with every possible sweet you can think of. I couldn't resist and had a couple of treats. Then I forcefully took myself away from the table and left the room because I knew if I stayed there I'd overindulge.

This morning my self-deprivation (and it was hard to do) paid off - 185 pounds, down 2.5 from last week. Only 5 more pounds until I reach my goal weight. I hope to get there in a month or two though I know that Halloween and Thanksgiving will be very tough to get through without overdoing it.

I hope everyone had a successful week. As my own experience has shown, even if you have a bad week just stick with your program and you'll do better down the road.

  13. Lost 2 pant sizes since August for my February cruise. Grew up on the beach so I am looking forward to getting some beach time again. It's been 8 years since I bought a bathing suit and I want to be able to buy one for the trip that I look and feel good in.

Last time I got in shape I went from a US size 16 to a US size 6 in 3 months... I have 4 months this time and I am determined to do it again but stay at the size 6 this time and not let my boyfriend's eating habits ruin mine.

I'm sure you'll do it. Once your boyfriend sees how good you're looking maybe he'll change his eating habits.

  14. I have lost right around 17 lbs over the last 3 months. My husband has lost roughly 20. Knowing that being in a swimsuit in public is happening in just a few days now was a great motivator when one may have wanted to cheat. I had to get new work pants yesterday because mine were several inches too large. I'm almost as excited about the weight loss as the cruise. Almost- but not nearly. Sunday can't come fast enough!!!!!

Great loss, Rachelmae. It's a good feeling to be able to buy smaller clothes.

  15. 187.5 this week, down 1.5 pounds. I had hoped to reach my goal of 180 by the end of summer, which didn't happen because my weight loss stalled for a couple of months. But now it seems to have gotten going again so I'm hoping to reach my goal weight by the end of the year. At that point I will have lost almost 50 pounds.

After being heavy for so long, I still have problems recognizing myself in the mirror.

I hope everyone had a good week.

  16. For me the key to moderate eating is to watch those carbs, particularly at breakfast. Most people eat their breakfast at the buffet and the temptation to overdose on carbs is very great. Waffles, pancakes, potatoes and muffins are very appealing and few can resist them.

  17. I finally broke 190 - down a pound and 1/2 to 189. 9 more pounds until I reach my goal weight.

One thing that helped me was a new discovery - Boca burgers, which are veggie "hamburgers". While I'm not a vegetarian I'm always on the lookout for easy, lo-cal meals and I found these in the freezer case. They have various types but my favorite happens to have the lowest number of calories - 70 per burger. And it tastes - - OK (better than I expected). Add some mustard and relish and it's almost like eating a hamburger.

  18. Well, Monday was 200, this morning it was 192 - plenty of "residue" as I call it along with delayed success from plenty of exercise = my new starting point to get back to 180.

Cruiserman - I was routing(?) for you for a sub-190 weigh in today. Dang it. You'll nail it next week, your habits are good and it's inevitable.

    Have great cruise Dianna!

Belle, really appreciate and enjoy your thread kick-offs (get it - FOOTBALL SEASON STARTS TONIGHT!)

Sitting around watching games-that can be a tough one for me for snacking. That's why I'm glad I have the elliptical now - just jump on that for a while as a distraction.

So, 180 by mid November, average speed on the bike up to 17mph, and back into my 34 waist jeans - that's my goals for now. Don't know what my knees think of that second one, but might as well try.

Have a great week everyone - keep on keepin' on.

Congratulations on your decision to get back to healthy habits. Losing 8 pounds (!) is a great way to start.
