  1. We have eaten in the Tuscan Grill (for Elite breakfast) once since becoming Elite several years ago. I think it was for disembarkation day. We are normally in Blu or Luminae, so feel that the Elite breakfast is not needed, nor was it very inviting being a buffet.

Is the Elite breakfast going to now be "sit down with menu" on every ship? I know that the breakfast is held in Tuscan on the Solstice class ships. What about on the Millennium class ships and the Edge?

What is the advantage of dining in the Elite breakfast venue versus dining in Blu or Luminae, especially if it will be by menu and not quick pick-up. Or can you take advantage of both?

We have always enjoyed a light breakfast in Luminae. Are they pushing more food at Luminae? Usually after the first morning they seem to know what we want for breakfast.

  2. We have stayed in a number of SS, 4 CS and 2 RS (with another in 3 weeks time).

The SS are a single room which is half as big as a standard cabin. We have usually had the corner aft ones which have a large wrap round balcony. They are not a regular shape and have poles which do not really get in the way. Also stayed in what was an AQ suite on Reflectionon the hump which was the same shape as the S2 suites on the other Solstice ships. Fairly square with a balcony half as big again to a regular balcony. These actually have more cupboard space than the S1s.

Both the CS and RS have large sitting areas but both have smallish bedrooms with only walk round space for 1 person. The both have walk in wardrobes.

The bathrooms for SS and CS have a bath with the shower in the bath. Sometimes this does not feel too safe. The RS has huge bathroom plus a separate toilet. Large separate shower and Jacuzzi bath plus another bath on the balcony.

The Sky suites feel roomier than the other two due to the amount of furniture they have in them.

    I hope that helps.

The CS Suites on the Soltice class definitely do not have a large sitting room! They have a wrap around sofa (it just fits) and another chair. The bedroom is also very small. There is no dining area at all, except for the balcony which can be large on the hump. The RS has a proper living room and a dining area, seats six. The bedroom is much larger than the CS. The main bathroom has a tub and a separate shower. The balcony is the shortcoming as it has a “bathtub” type jet with jets taking up too much room, a single lounge chair and a dining table.

  3. That is slightly disappointing to hear actually. I personally found the food in Luminae on par with Blu and in some instances not that much of a step up over the MDR. Sure the presentation was a bit nicer and the service better but the overall quality of the food wasn't leaps and bounds. I don't mean to sound too negative as Im sure we will really enjoy ourselves.

I did book today, cabin 4050 on the Journey for the Nov 20th sailing. We're excited for a new adventure.

We are on the 3/25/19 sailing from Miami to NYC with an overnight in Havana. What kind of cruise is departing on 3/24; is it a one day?

  4. Good evening!!

My husband, 2 teenagers & I are cruising to Alaska on the Solstice next week.

We were given the chance to bid for a better room. Our bid for the Royal Suite was accepted today.

I’ve searched all over these posts and have some questions answered, but this is our first time cruising Celebrity and many of the posts are from 2017 and earlier, so I’m not sure if anything has changed for 2018.

We prepurchased the Premium Beverage package, Internet package and the Photo package. The Premium beverage package and the Internet package are included with the Royal Suite. Will I receive OBC for what I’ve already purchased?

Is laundry service included? Daily? 1 bag?

Are there any other tips/suggestions you seasoned Celebrity Cruisers could provide? We cruise about 4-5 times a year and would not be prepared without this board! It’s my go-to travel guide!!

    Kate

You will need to cancel the beverage package and the Internet, it won’t be automatically refunded. Photos are not included.

  5. Cunard isn't really geared up for kids in terms of entertainment when compared to the other lines. Celebrity suite class offers good food and plenty of entertainment for kids. NCL Haven is also an option, but much prefer Celebrity.

We were on Celebrity earlier this year and there were no special activities for children in the Suite Class. They can sit in the Michaels Club Bar but there are no games for them. They can also eat in the Suites restaurant, Luminae. Children are much better entertained on Cunard with their special aft area with their own pool.

Unfortunately, on Cunard everyone is expected to dress for dinner but on Celebrityanything goes.

  6. We had problems when we were put in a Handicap Suite. I am 5’8” and my husband is 6’1”. It was problematic. Don’t remember the sinks as we are used to them being low. The shower had no lip so any lengthy shower results in a very wet bathroom. I had to use the spa shower to wash my hair. The clothes racks were about 20 inches shorter than normal. This works for shirts and slacks but no so good for dresses. Hope you are successful in getting switched to a regular suite.

  7. My mother, who had heart failure, also had trouble with swollen hands and ankles on cruises. She was told to limit her salt, increase her water consumption but avoid alcohol. She was also told to remain active even though she was on a cruise, never to sit too long and to walk 5 or 10 minutes every hour. Health problems are difficult to prevent on a cruise. Her doctor did stop short of recommending she not cruise.

  8. We had the Seabourn transfer and we were off the ship and on our way in 20 minutes. Would have been sooner but the last couple overslept. The driver gave a nice tour and sicusaion on our way to the airport. We enjoyed the air Canada Lounge and the soups served were delicious. Nice that they had unfettered access to alcohol unlike the United Lounge.

Air New Zealand is still the lounge to beat as it was fantastic. AirCanad was on time for our flight to LA so we experienced no problems with Business Class. All but two seats were other Seabourn passengers.

  9. I will definitely lodge a complaint with Seabourn! We were told on the first day we were only allowed one dinner in “the Grill”. Perhaps we should complain more often. We also received no towel animals from our stewardess! Thought all passengers were “equal” on Seabourn, but obviously some are more equal than others.

Didn’t you realize we visited Kodiak on Memorial Day weekend. It is a significant national holiday in the U.S. to memorialize those who lost their lives defending our country. Hope this wasn’t too much of a disappointment for you, after all, it was all Seabourn’s fault.

  10. Apparently the third try was the charm for my attempts at a good breakfast that wasn't at a snails pace or served with a side of surly server.

Into the Colonnade again for breakfast. I didn't see the server from yesterday so things are looking up. I seated myself and shortly thereafter I had placed my drink order (OJ - I always ask for a large glass - I don't understand the little shot sized glasses for this beverage), coffee order and food order. I was now free to roam along the buffet and see what was on offer today.

In the past I've found the doughnuts to have a less than pleasant texture as well as lacking in the flavor department. Taking a chance I took a doughnut. Both texture and flavor were vastly improved from previous cruises. Good to know, yet bad to know as they were now to me good to eat.

It always amuses me to see the sugar bomb cereals on cruise ships that don't cater to the family crowd. I wonder how many boxes of Fruit Loops and Frosted Flakes they go through on a cruise.

The food arrived quickly and was what I'd actually ordered. It was also cooked correctly.(y)

For the rest of the cruise whenever I took breakfast in the Colonnade I sought out that seat. The only quibble I had for the remainder of the cruise for breakfast was with the American style breakfast sausage. I'm not sure how they were cooked but they seemed to be lacking any visible sign of having undergone the Maillard reaction. They were these pale grey limp things. Ah well - everything else was good. The specials of the morning were interesting I think my favorite was the goat cheese omelet.

There was no “American” style sausage served on this ship! We all (Americans) thought those sausages were English or German style. There was nothing that remotely resembled our Jimmy Dean or Bob Evans style breakfast sausage. Could they have been Australian Style?

  11. Days two and three of the cruise were sea days. I usually start the day in the Restaurant for breakfast. The first sea day was no different. Service was on the sluggish side and the kitchen appeared to be running in slow motion. It took ~45 minutes to receive an omelet. There were two other occupied tables and I saw only three room service orders go out. Maybe hundreds went out a different way, but for me 45 minutes combined with slow refills (I need my OJ on vacation!) is too long to wait. The rest of the cruise I would be up in the Colonnade for breakfast (assuming I wasn't sleeping in:D ).

I am sure you now know that the Colonnade filled most room service orders. We also found the Restaurant sluggish and had most meals in the Colonnade with never a bad server. However, we also ate in the same section, starboard toward the aft in the real not bar height tables.

  12. The only problem with the Reflection is for the Suite passengers. There are many more Suites and the same size Michaels Club and Luminae. This was especially noticeable on the transatlantic as more people utilized the Michaels Club for drinks. Luminae was also more crowded. The rest of the ship is wonderful.

  13. When we had a Royal, we had a single big bed that could not be converted to the small twins. It was an automatic bed and I believe we could not store all of our suitcases under it because of the mechanism. The beds are shorter than an actual King and our feet hang off the edge. We are both tall but under 6 ft. 2 in. Sky Suites are just larger regular staterooms and there is no wall separating the beds from the sitting area. I believe Junior Suites on Royal are larger.

  14. We were in a RS on the Reflection. Our Butler had Suites on 3 levels including Penthouse, several Royal Suites, several Celebrity Suites and some Sky Suites on three decks. The passengers in the Penthouse were full on a holes and repeatedly complained that the Butler was not there full time for them. Butlers certainly do not have enough time to do “Butler” things.

  15. Again, it's the lack of disclosure that's irksome. Prospective guests deserve to be notified when significant work projects may impact the amenities and quality on offer. I might have reconsidered the Alaska cruise recently booked for this summer had this been disclosed, especially since my GTY fare choice opens the possibility of being placed directly below this work.

Being on this cruise I did not find the work on the deck to be a problem. When we arrived in our stateroom we had a letter stating that there would be work done on the deck. Fortunately this was done during the most inclement, cold, and rainy weather possible. We would not have been enjoying the deck area in that weather. The outside bars were open but few people wanted to be outside. As soon as the Patio was open we went out and had Lunch. It was cold and your food was cold within minutes of receiving it. We did force ourselves to eat lunch there 3 times, all with the parka, hat and gloves. There is no way I would have tried dinner in that cold environment. Seabourn made a great decision to try and repair the deck especially as the cold, wet, weather already made it unusable. If you want to sunbathe and enjoy eating outside, maybe choose a cruise other than a northern pacific one.
