  1. I hope not since I am booked for the 24th of August, which I booked direct with Carnival. Sure hope I am not going to be sitting in the dry dock for a week. Has anyone called them to confirm. I am in Iraq and can't quite call them right now.

Your fine. I'm looking at that week now myself.

Are you 4th ID? I'm just north of Ft. Hood.

  2. Maintenance Schedule:

    2003: no scheduled dates

    2004: no scheduled dates

    2005: drydock: 8/28/05-9/11/05

    2006: no scheduled dates

    2007: no scheduled dates

    2008: drydock: 8/24/08-9/06/08

Match is booked for the first cruise after drydock.....can't wait for the review!

Not sure where your getting that information, but they are selling cruises for those dates. In fact one of those weeks was on the 12 days of Christmas sale.

  3. Great thread .. thanks everyone. My family is a RCCL family but have heard good things about Carnival and the Conquest. We are used to smaller ships, so I would like to know from you Conquest veterans if you ever really felt "crowded" while on board?

Also, we had a bad experience with Carnival a long time ago on a 3 night gig out of Miami. Rowdy passengers, bar fights, etc. Can we expect a lot better now especially on a 7 day trip?

Any info would be helpful. Thank you!

It won't feel any more crowded than the Rhapsody-IMHO. So enjoy, it's not rowdy. There are 5 Conquest reviews on my blog.

  4. Just got off the Conquest yesterday. It was a bit like Fantasy Island meets Chevy Chase's Vacation. We managed to have a great time because we were with our best friends, and did find an excellent duo who catered to our every dancing need. Once they learned that we enjoyed dancing, they seemed to enjoy having us there each evening. If you are going on the Conquest any time before February, be sure to look for them. They are called the Music Mates, and the singer's voice is amazing.

Alfred's Bar is still a cigar bar, and colder than all get-out. The jazz trio in there was not exactly to my liking, but it was nice and quiet and a perfect place to sit and have a drink each evening. All of the staff that we encountered was FANTASTIC! They definitely had to deal with a difficult situation. Not only did they have disgruntled passengers on their hands, many of them were missing their opportunity to get off of the ship for a few hours.

Our dinner assignment was incorrect when we got on board. Since we were traveling with our best friends we had been assured that we would be seated together. When we discovered that that was not the case, the maitre'd, Alejandro, and the hostess, Slavica, were quick to accommodate our request and even arranged a table for 4, rather than one of the giant tables that we had originally been assigned to. They treated us like royalty, and called us by name every time they saw us wherever we were on the ship.

I was disappointed in the port changes, but I couldn't believe how some people blamed it on Carnival. I can only imagine the comments if they had tried to go into Grand Cayman during a tropical storm. They reimbursed us $75 per guest for Jamaica. That didn't seem like much, but it was better than nothing, and I decided to be thankful for any compensation when it was not of their doing. However, the substitution of Progreso for Grand Cayman did not really seem a fair exchange. We had not scheduled a shore excursion in Grand Cayman because we wanted to just have a day relaxing and sight seeing. Sightseeing and wandering around Progreso was definitely NOT the same. On a positive note...We took the Mexican Cooking on the Beach excursion in Cozumel, and it was one of the highlights of the trip. Funny...great food...and time to relax on the beach and around the town. I recommend it to everyone!

He is a great maître d'. Sounds like you MADE it fun. Progreso is no GC, but it happened to me once as well. Sorry you missed the port. Jamaica, IMHO, no big loss.

I have a question--did they serve alcohol after midnight on Sunday when you were overnight in port? They was some speculation about that when we were all watching you on the web cam.

  5. I would be depressed if this happend to me. I would rathe skip Cozumel and back track to Jamaica.....Hopefully the Spring weather will be much nicer.

I think you will find you would be one of the very few who would prefer that. Jamaica has it's wonderful qualities, but doesn't compare with Cozumel as cruise ship destination. Many don't even get off the ship anymore in Jamaica (maybe their loss) yet Cozumel is popular with almost every experienced cruise passenger.

I'd prefer the Conquest alternated Jamaica with another port such as Key West or anywhere else as the Rhapsody did every other week. Or they could have two itineraries as the Voyager will be doing next year. It would also lead to more b2b bookings.

  6. I was on the Conquest, and we could not dock until after 12:00 p.m. yesterday due to fog. I did not get off the boat until around 3:00 p.m., and I wasn't finished with customs until after 4:00 p.m. I hate that for all those that were trying to board her. It was a nasty foggy day.

Sorry for your bad luck. Much better to be late coming in than late going out though. Sounds like customs was backed up as well with everyone leaving so close together. Glad you made it back safe.

  7. Daughter says she heard, you save money if you book your own excurions? Then she expressed some concern about getting killed, raped and/or body organs taken when going too far from the norm? What is the best nitty gritty. I'm the Lazy River Tube type, but some of our wilder Texans enjoy riding bulls for fun.

She's correct. I never take a ship excursion. She's also correct that you really need to investigate who you do book with locally.

Thanks 8cruisnfeet!:) That was my 5th Conquest cruise in September.

  8. Hi people!! This is my first post and my first cruise, so be kind if I screw it up!! I just want to say how much I have been enjoying reading all the posts and thank you for all the valuable information. I must have missed something on the way, but the pool thing. Am I understanding correctly that the pools on board are salt and not fresh (relative) water? And while I am here, can anyone tell me about the Jungle River Tubing in Montego Bay? We will be going on that excursion and I would just like to know what it was like. Am I going to drown!!

Thanks again for the information you all provide.

    Sailing on the Conquest 02/03/2008!! Can't wait!:D

Welcome to Cruise Critic. You will love the Conquest. It's a great ship.

Yes, salt water pools, sorry not familiar with that excursion.

  9. Hello, We sailed on our first cruise at the end of September and I was wondering about a few things. We sailed with four adults in one cabin and had two twin beds the couch and a pull down bed. I thought I had read on CC that during the day the steward would put the pull down up and make the couch up. Our steward didn't do that and left the couch made up as a bed all the time. I kinda wished that we could have had the couch made up and the bed folded up during the day as it would have made the room seem larger. We weren't in our room a whole lot but when we were it would have been nice. I didn't ask the steward as I wasn't sure what was correct. Also, is it normal to not get a towel animal on the first night? Also, what about the last night. Silly things, I know, but curious anyway. Thanks for your help,

I've never had a towel animal the 1st night. Can't answer about couch, never had 4 in a cabin.

  10. Bonnie is the 'aft expert' for sure--thanks Bonnie:) We also only book aft cabins and the wrap whenever possible.

Just wanted to add my observations from my first Voyager class cruise last week: I had cabin 9692 (solo this time) on the Adventure and it was great. I was tipped here on Cruise Critic that that cabin may be better than the corner cabins on deck nine and I have to say I agree.

I went down to both 7688 and 7388 on debarkation morning since I have them each booked when the Voyager gets to Texas. I was just a wee bit disappointed with the size, as I have been spoiled by the Rhapsody's aft wraps 7152 & 7652. The RH aft wrap balconies are much much larger than on the Voyager class. Still great cabins, but the upgrade in ship is actually a downgrade in balcony size. The one advantage though is more shade. DW will appreciate that as we are not sun people.

I'm wondering now if we should try Bonnie's fav's 1688 & 1388. If possible I now think I will try to change to one on one of the upcoming Voyager cruises. Closer to Windjammer as well.

  11. We are cruising the week of Oct 21st and some folks on our Roll Call say that they have heard that Carnival has Halloween Parties on cruises during the month of October. Can someone who has cruised on the Conquest in October please tell me if they did that on your cruise and if they do, what it consists of and if guest wear costumes? Thanks!

    Patti

I'm not sure what they will do the week before, but on the actual day they DO make a big deal of it. Lots of costumes, decorations, special dessert in dining room, etc.
