  1. I couldn't agree more. The people in the cabin next to us were not even asked what they wanted - they were first-time cruisers, and didn't know any better. They didn't even meet our steward until the 3rd day! He never came to introduce himself to them.

The more I think about it, while it’s a nice touch to meet our stewards, we don’t particularly care who cleans our room on land based vacations, so we find ourselves not really being bothered if the room stewards don’t go above and beyond and call us by name.

We’re on the younger side and I think the more Carnival targets younger generations, the more they’ll do away with the status quo of the expectations of the 80s and 90s cruise experience. I can’t speak for other people my age, but formality is out the window on vacations these days.

  2. If I was close with my family member I’d go to the wedding. If it was a distant relative or someone I didn’t have a relationship with, of course I’d choose the cruise.

It would be pretty heartless to skip out on an actual loved one’s wedding because your job has a bad vacation policy. Also, nobody goes to the wedding for themselves except the bride and groom. The fact you bring up that these types of weddings aren’t “your thing” is irrelevant. It’s about the couple.

  3. I think it has to do with feelings of inadequacy and cruise line envy. And that lame #carnivalfamily slogan that the BA tried to ignite a while back. They are not family, anymore than they are family with the surly, broken spirited clerks at the DMV, but some won't understand that. With that said, I think Carnival has positioned itself for longevity and fiscal soundness, so share holders should be happy.

That “lame” CarnivalFamily hashtag “the BA tried to ignite a while back” was actually a marketing scam perpetrated by a lone individual that Carnival and JH turned into positive PR.

But, hey, why let facts get in the way of a good story, right?

  4. When we debarked in Tampa on the Miracle repo, we were pretty surprised to see terminal staff looking at check in times of the people arriving and sending people to go take a seat. They might get lucky or they might have to wait four hours. If they don’t mind rolling the dice and can be patient if they have to wait, by all means send them all there early.

  5. whoever said that libraries were there to make money . It is a place to relax and have some quiet time . And if the library is not making money it looks like everyone is turning their books back on time NO LATE FEES .

Haha. It’s not like a typical library where there’s someone or a computer checking out books. One person could go in there and wipe them out of every book and nobody would be the wiser.

  6. It goes beyond that, new rules have to be made,,,

only 1 piece of luggage in self assist!

got 2 or more, too bad!

We saw people a couple weeks ago trying to maneuver 3 pieces of luggage plus a carry on! Of course they just held everyone up while they continually dropped things!:D

Except I have two hands and shoulders, as does my wife. At 34 years old, we feel we can safely navigate one piece of luggage each hand and a backpack on each of our shoulders.

Not everyone is a bumbling fool.

  7. What's your hurry? To be first in the customs line? I'm genuinely curious.

My pace of life is my prerogative. You genuinely think people need to move at your pace if there’s a gap in front of you and you’re holding up an otherwise quickly moving line? That’s the definition of being selfish.

Do you wait in a slow traffic lane or would you go around the person in front of you if you were driving quicker? I’m genuinely curious.

  8. I'll cram up as close behind you as I can...

Good. That’s exactly what the ship wants you to do. Get off in the most efficient manner. Vacation is over.

I’ll never just step in front of someone if we’re all waiting in a line, but if the line is moving smoothly and you fall behind, expect to be passed. There’s really nothing wrong with that.

  9. So you're justifying line cutting then?! And FYI i'm not old, I carry one bag and move very quickly. But there's always those that still just HAVE to go faster and get ahead. And yes, those people I will happily block.

I’m not justifying line cutting whatsoever, but I will justify passing someone that isn’t taking up the space in front of them in the line, especially if we’re all walking and spread out.

No different than sitting in traffic in a car. People that are going faster can and should pass stragglers. People want to get off the ship at their pace, not yours.

  10. It's even worse when you're solo and people think they can just walk around you because there's more space around you. While disembarking down the ramp towards customs on my last cruise this impatient guy tried to squeeze right past me while going around the curve of the ramp. I moved over quickly and blocked him and received the most evil look in return and I didn't care. I can't stand those types who think they're special! When you walk just hold out your bags and block em!

You block someone’s path only for the sake of not letting them by you, even though there’s room and they might be moving quicker and more efficiently?

Classy. Move up and occupy the space in front of you to avoid this in the future. My wife and I will happily pass you or any other single if they aren’t moving at a decent pace. Stay with the line and all this is moot. No?

  11. They only have flour tortillas. They’re made fresh from little dough balls in a machine that spits them out right there nice and hot. People might be thinking about the tortillas for the burritos which are still flour, but are yellowish in color because they’re whole wheat.

  12. Never a decent selection of books, but it is a decent place to play board games or work on a laptop if you happen to need to work while on a sailing. Mid-30s and wouldn’t be too pained to see it go. Plenty of quiet places on a ship to do your thing and the books can still be borrowed off the shelves of a coffee shop motif.
