  1. Sorry..I was there and they were turned away ONLY because of no passport

    Jancruz1

There has to be something more to it, US and Canadian citizens have different cruising rules for documentation than non-citizens. Celebrity/NCL/Royal and Carnival you don't need a passport if you're going from a US port and returning to the same US port no matter if you're visiting Canada/Mexico.

A BC and Drivers license works, if you're a Canadian/American citizen.

So if your friend was a US or Canadian citizen and had a DL and BC, then they would't be turned away because of a lack of a passport. It's either/or.

If your friend is not a US citizen and say someone with just a permanent card they'd need a passport from their home country to get on the ship.

  2. If you're not a US citizen, but are one of another country that needs a Visa. It's totally on you to find out those requirements before a cruise that takes you to another country.

I don't think they're going to refund you, it's not much different that you being late and missing the cruise. It's your responsibility to have known you're not a US citizen and needed the proper documents to travel.

  3. Glad they reversed it, I would be one that usually grabs pastries and coffee in the morning and eat it on my balcony.

I don't believe it wasn't a revenue/cash grab decision. If it was just about the hallways and keeping it clean, then the $8 for room service fee wasn't necessary.

  4. I've never had it happen to me, however, my luggage was lost on the flight home after a cruise. I was really grateful it was after.

I did have the people in the cabin next door lose their luggage. Our family got off to spend the day at the 1st port and at the end of the day when heading back to our room we saw their bags sitting outside their cabin door. So it took a day and by the end of the first stop they had them.

  5. I don't even know how the water can even be called smuggling. It's not being illegally hidden or done under the radar.

I had an unopened one liter bottle in my carry-on, they saw it, it went through security, they knew I had it. Same with putting a luggage tag on a case of water. They see it, the porters, employees know you have it. It's approved and is delivered to your room just like any other piece of luggage with a tag on it.

It's not being smuggled on board like a sneaky dirty secret people are trying to hide.

  6. Nothing wrong with the compensation offered although I am sure their will be plenty of negatives about this too!

    "Statement #3 on Norwegian Dawn

    Miami - May 20, 2015 ---

On Wednesday, May 20, a thorough assessment of Norwegian Dawn was completed by Norwegian's technical operations team, an independent dive team, and DNVGL inspectors, representing the ship's classification society, while the ship was alongside in Heritage Wharf, Bermuda. The team confirmed the structural integrity of the ship and the technical issue which caused the steering malfunction was identified and corrected. The ship is expected to be cleared to depart Bermuda at 3pm today and resume sailing to Boston, and is expected to arrive on Friday as scheduled. Norwegian Dawn's next voyage will depart as scheduled on May 22.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and greatly appreciate our guests' understanding. All guests sailing on the current voyage will receive a future cruise credit of 15% of their cruise fare to use towards a future Norwegian cruise"

That's great she's arriving on time and leaving on the 22nd as scheduled.

  7. If you need special boarding you can get it. There's a form/email address for special needs and just let them know and you'd be accommodated for all the assistance.

Formal nights are pretty formal, gowns/suits/tuxes. You don't need to eat there, you can always do buffet and Windjammer instead or one of the a la carte's that are more casual if you want to skip the formal nights.

Quiet areas, the library area is pretty quiet. Solarium area.

No cash at all is accepted, your seapass card controls everything. You can put a set amount on their card so they can do their own purchasing. Ice cream/arcade tokens etc..

You'd need cash for tipping when you're off the ship. Any purchases etc when off the ship at the ports. Except Labadee.
