  1. I don't understand why the 'World's Leading Cruise Lines", can't seem to make a success of all year round cruising from the Port of NY (including NJ).....

The HAL Noordam tried and failed, the Crown Princess tried and failed, now Carnival Cruise Line....

That will leave the few sailings of the Cunard QM2 as the only Carnival Corp. ship sailing out of NY in the winter....

Celebrity tried with its Silhouette, and pulled that out, but the Explorer of the Seas, the earlier Voyager of the Seas, and the Explorer's replacement, Quantum of the Seas shows RCI is doing it...

And NCL manages to field two ships homeported in NY all year round, currently the Gem and the Breakaway, previously the Dawn, the Spirit, and the Jewel. They will even briefly have three ships here this winter....the new Getaway, chartered as a Superbowl hotel, will do preinaugural cruises before and after the charter....

I really think it's weather related. I think most cruisers are looking for "fun in the sun" - and that's not easy out of NYC in the winter.

There are only so many places you can to - and back from - in 7 days home ported in NYC. :/

  3. Could you tell me what time the Miracle started disembarkation ?

I have a flight for 11:30 at LAX and am hoping that I could self disembark in the first group ?

    What is FTTF ?

FTTF -- Faster To The Fun is a limited availability program that allows earlier embarkation and immediate access to your cabin upon boarding (plus a couple if other perks) for a $50/cabin fee.

  4. Good Evening!

We just returned from our cruise to the Mexican Riviera aboard the Carnival Miracle from 12/1 to 12/7/2013.

This is my first attempt including photos - wish me luck!

    First a summary:

    • Overall - we had a great time. There were 8 of us, and we were celebrating a 50th Birthday!

    • Food was good - some was fantastic, some was just so so - depending on what you like or do not like. We had differing opinions on the same dish from various members of our group sometimes. Proving that food is subjective!

    • One food related item that bears mentioning is The Chef Table. This was amazing! I highly recommend it.

    • The aft wrap vista suite spoiled us. Seriously spoiled us. This room was FANTASTIC.

    • Weather was great. Coming back to 10 inches of snow and 15 degree temps was not!

    • Activities abounded, there was always something to do. You can be as busy as you want to be.

    • The one thing that made me roll my eyes a few times - was communication, or lack there-of by Carnival - throughout the cruise. Anybody can have an off day - - but there were many instances where logistics and communication was lacking. Nothing huge, and nothing that impacted the experience in any major way - but several moments of: What the heck? I'll include details below.

I do have the Fun Times and will scan them tomorrow. I don't have any of the schedules from Camp Carnival. If you want the Fun Times - send me an email to: michfish30@gmail.com and I will send them out to you.

BEST cabins in the fleet - IMHO!! ;) :D

  6. Initially I booked an Aft-balcony, then I did a little research about the suites in the Haven, spoke to an NCL upgrade coordinator, then gave her my AMEX number and finally received a new confirmation...I know deep down she wanted to stay in the Haven and since we are bringing our 7 year old boy, he will be able to have his own room with a TV and his own bathroom.

That second bedroom will be perfect for him!!

Make sure you ask your Butler to bring him extra cookies and milk (or whatever he'd like) everyday - when he brings your snack. ;)

  7. Wow...really awesome pictures and suite. Makes me want to book the same suite.

I was hesitant to book the Haven at first but after having read many posts, I finally booked a 2 bedroom suite on the Epic sailing next month. Can't wait!!!! Surprise for my wife to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Have just received the luggage tags (priority) in the mail today.

    YAY!!!

We actually enjoyed our "Haven" experience on the Epic more. Don't get me wrong…they were both fantastic!

Not sure if it was because our balcony on the Breakaway was SO fantastic or if it was just a different experience.

Would you like to have pictures of our cabin on the Epic (17016) - it was a family it was a two bedroom "family villa"??

Thank you all so much again. You all sold me! I should give you each a commission :)

  9. My husband and I are thinking of booking an aft facing corner suite in the Haven on the Breakaway in 2015. I was just curious as to what those that have stayed in the Haven thought and if it looks as awesome as it reads. Thank you for any help!

Here is a link to the photos I have posted out on facebook - showing our cabin on the Breakaway (9316) from September. You can see them - even if you don't have a fb account or log in.

If you have any questions - I will try to help. Enjoy!! ;) :D

  10. If you do a search, you can find lots of threads with lots of detailed information regarding the suite perks, including info on the butler and concierge. But, in brief:

The butler takes care of everything in your room except for the daily cleaning type things (that's the steward's job). He will bring you room service, drinks, clear out the fridge and stock your favorites (with the appropriate charges for soda and alcohol). He (or she) will bring you daily snacks, serve meals that you have ordered in the room, bring menus for the dining rooms, and -- apparently -- even unpack your bags if you so desire. The butler is not part of the DSC, so be sure to be prepared to tip him according to your own sense of fairness.

The concierge takes care of everything outside the room. He (or she) will make dinner reservations, show reservations (if applicable), book shore excursions, give invitations to ship cocktail parties, and the like. He will also help with the priority embarkation and disembarkation at the beginning and end of the cruise (very handy) and in any ports where a tender is being used. The concierge should also be tipped according to your own sense of fairness about the services he or she has provided.

While I have not stayed in a Haven suite yet, I understand that there is also a Haven maître de who will provide service in the Haven itself. I've read that they can obtain food from specialty restaurants and have it served in the Haven and things like that. But, that's not something I have independently confirmed, so take it with a grain of salt.

    All true!! ;) :D
