  1. I use a heating pad too and when I called special needs they said I could bring one as long as it has an automatic shutoff. Since plugs are lacking and my tens works I didn't bring the heating pad. Special needs said they cannot supply one.

That sounds good, my heat pad cuts off after a certain time. I have emailed Special Needs to check.

  2. Get a Tens machine - NHS will provide you with one - speak to your doc.

If its that bad consider surgery - I had it done very young (30s)and never looked back - best week of my life -

Tens machine by far better though than applying heat - heat is not always good - has your doc recommended this?

I had a spinal fusion 7 years ago, loads better than I was (was struggling to walk/stand), I find the heat soothing. My physio doesn't have any issues with me doing this.

I have tried Tens, I guess it works for some and not others. Maybe the warmer weather on the cruise will help, its still generally cold at home at the moment.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

  3. High Tea = supper (there is a savory first course such as ham and salad, or Welsh rarebit or similar

Afternoon Tea = what you are expecting - scones, pastries, cakes

Rule of thumb for me is that you would need a fork to eat High Tea :)

Celebrity mention a High Tea, I assumed it was a mistake.

Yes I would prefer the afternoon tea option, it is very popular in the UK at the moment.

  4. We are currently looking at the Speciality Dinners Package and have notice that high tea is available in Murano, has anyone had this before? Is it worth taking as part of the package or maybe paying for as a one off?

  5. Lots of discussion on here about drinks packages, not so many about the food ones.

Am I right in thinking that the 1st night of your cruise the restaurant will be selected by Celebrity and the other nights on your package will be our choice?

We are in Blu which we loved but fancy a change on a 14 night cruise, trying to decide if this option is worthwhile.

  6. We cruised on the Eclipse last year to Norway and loved the relaxed atmosphere on the ship, even though we are relatively young we prefer it quiet.

My sister in law and her partner have just come back from the recent Eclipse taster cruise and it was absolutely mobbed, 4 deep at the bar and people going totally over the top.

Is the latter a one off, or are the bars always busy and we hit lucky on our cruise last year?

Heading to the Med in September and we are hoping for quiet times. I understand the Med may attract a slightly different clientele to Norway so it may be a bit noisier.

  7. you will not get the extra points for the upgrade. We moved to Aqua for a deal but got points for the cabin we originally booked. It states so on Celebrity's web page

Same for us last year, you definitely only receive the points based on your original booking.

We upgraded from an inside cabin to Aqua last year, loved the upgrade and have booked Aqua this year for our 2nd cruise.

  8. I'm a CAMRA member too, loved the Gastrobar on the Eclipse.

Probably around 50+ beers on offer in the bar, in various other bars they had what I would class as mainstream beers e.g. Newcastle Brown Ale, Old Speckled Hen, Boddingtons etc There was a beer sommelier too, he certainly knew his stuff and was able to make recommendations to us that were really good.

If you have the premium package there will be more than enough beers to tempt you in the Gastrobar. We tried a good number of them, surprisingly though having been drawn to Celebrity due to the beer selection I loved the cocktails in the World Class Bar. Never thought I would be a cocktail drinker!

  9. Well my sister and I talked to two different FCCs on board and the both said the same thing. We could not apply the OBC to a future cruise. This was on the Infinity on a cruise in May. When was your experience?

We booked around 12th May onboard The Eclipse, our credit could be applied to the cruise we were on at the time or the one we were booking for.

  10. We are just off the Eclipse and there was never anyone drinking any of the Cocktails at that bar, once saw someone with a vodka coke but that it. Only one barman who looked extremely annoyed to be standing there!

We spent most of our time at that bar on our cruise, not a cocktail drinker normally, however, we loved the ones they had on the menu.

The bar wasn't ever busy though, a shame really, I guess it depends which drinks package you have and if you don't mind waiting a while to be served.

  11. I am not sure if it is a secret when they give you a small supplemental menu. It also included shrimp cocktail and Caesar salad if I recall.

Oh, I see, we didn't see another menu. Will have to ask next time, ages away though, 15 months until our next cruise!

  12. You didn't go to the lively places, but you are surprised that the ship felt quiet?

Maybe if you had gone to the other places you would have found more activity.

I was surprised the bar areas on the lower floors were quiet, we didn't go into the other bars as we liked the ones we were in. As I said it suited us.

I did mention that other people said they found the ship quiet, they did go into the other bars.

This forum seems to be changing to a place where people over analyse every comment that people make. Forgive me for what I thought was a clear post. It was our first cruise, I was unable to compare how lively the bars were against other cruise ships.

  13. Someone mentioned that jeans were a cheap option, in the UK you can pay more for a pair of jeans than a Tuxedo.

I wore smart jeans in Blu, my personal preference was to wear dress trousers/jacket for formal nights. I wore a tie on the first formal night, I didn't bother on the second.

I have to wear a suit for work, the idea of having to do so on holiday fills me with dread, I'm on holiday!

We have booked Aqua again, mainly for Blu and its relaxed atmosphere. I felt very comfortable having the option of dressing how I wanted to whilst staying within the flexible guidelines.

  14. SHIP: Eclipse

    CABIN #: 1549

    DECK #: 11

    CLASS: Aqua

    AREA: Hump!

    BED NEAR: Window

QUIET?: Very, no noise from the corridor or adjoining rooms.

BALCONY VIEW: window washing equipment outside, wasn't a problem for us

    BALCONY SIZE: larger than average

    WIND A PROBLEM?:no

    SOOT A PROBLEM?:no

PROBLEMS/COMMENTS: we really liked this cabin, preferred the bed near the window, the window washing equipment wasn't really an issue, still able to take photographs to the sides, bigger balcony was a bonus. We have booked this cabin again for our next cruise.

  15. Glad to hear you had a great time. We had a great time in the Baltics 4 years ago on The Eclipse. I'm curious though, were you offered the option to upgrade after final payment or before? Sue

Looking at my original post date it was around 5-6 weeks before sailing, we had paid the final payment by then.

  16. A quick follow up on this, so glad we upgraded to Aqua.

Loved Blu - the food, the setting, the tables for 2, the relaxed atmosphere.

Used the Spa and relaxation lounge quite a lot.

We've booked our next cruise in Aqua class so I guess it worked out for Celebrity!

  17. We booked using the Future Cruises office while on board the Eclipse when we were on board in May, we are now on version 12 of our invoice, end payment seems to be changing too.

My understanding of our booking was:-

    1 - Free Classic Beverages

    2 - Free Gratuities

    3 - $300 on board credit

4 - $250 on board credit for current cruise (we transferred this to our next cruise)

We don't appear to have received item 3.

I'm going to ring them today to sort out, no idea why we are receiving so many different invoices! Has anyone else had issues like this?
