  1. NCL started to build ships with enclosed smoking for the casino after Escape was built. The newer Breakaway Plus ships (Joy, Bliss, or Encore) might be better for you. The newer class of ships might also be an option for the same reason (Prima, Viva, Aqua). There have been talks of adding enclosed smoking to other ships but it's a slow process.
  2. Since the kids are both guest #2 in the staterooms, the kids should already have the soda package and the SDP with the standard Free At Sea promo. I think that the question is asking if the adult can upgrade to Plus but not the child in each stateroom? The added SDP meals, Wi-Fi, and excursion credit aren't worth the cost of the upgrade for the child if NCL forces them all to upgrade.
  3. "... a lovely daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay...." ๐Ÿ˜ฒ
  4. I do wonder if driving to port vs. flying to port is a factor for some people. I have the luxury of packing 2 weeks worth of clothes for a 1 week cruise since I drive to port. Those who fly have to be cognizant as to the weight limit of their luggage so maybe people leave the "extra" dress clothes at home. Personally, I dress how I feel on a particular day/evening. If I want to wear a tie, I will. If I want to wear shorts and a t-shirt, I will. Good time, good food, good drinks, etc. is more important to me than what I am wearing and is certainly more important to me than what other people are wearing.
  5. I can't be empathetic towards a situation that I haven't experienced. I can't be empathetic towards a woman who experienced a painful pregnancy, either. I can be sympathetic, not empathetic. "Sympathy is a feeling of sincere concern for someone who is experiencing something difficult or painful. Empathy involves actively sharing in the personโ€™s emotional experience." - Merriam-Webster
  6. You might mean "lacking sympathy...", not "lacking empathy...". If an adult is responsible, willing, and able enough to take an excursion (on their own) in a foreign country, that same adult is responsible, willing, and able to deal with the consequences of their actions. If the couple in this situation was 75, would that make a difference? How about 55? How about 25? I can't speak for others but my posts probably wouldn't change at all. If anything, the "experienced cruisers" should/would get less sympathy because they know better. What would happen if NCL instituted a policy that anyone over a certain age cannot leave the ship unless on a ship's excursion? People would be up in arms. Posts stating that "age discrimination" is bad and that older people can "still do things..." would flood the forum. That's the point that many on the forum have made. These situations happen because of the decisions and actions taken before things go bad.
  7. The "...long pants in one MDR...." varies by ship. On some ships, shorts are fine in all MDRs. When in doubt, check the dailies for your particular cruise.
  8. "Norwegian Cruise Line said it disputed the time of the coupleโ€™s arrival at the pier. 'The two guests who went ashore independently arrived at the pier approximately an hour late and missed the all-aboard time of 5:30 p.m. local time, for a sail away at approximately 6:00 p.m.,' a spokesperson said via email." It's a case of "he said/she said" as to the actual amount of time that they were late. Does that mean 6:30p or was it 6:10p? To me, 10 minutes late means 5:40p so I guess that's why I don't miss my ship, my plane, my train,.....etc.
  9. Some things are consistent with NCL but some things vary greatly depending on ship choice. Imagine someone thinking of trying RCCL and was deciding between ICON OTS and Vision OTS. It would be a big difference. Another thing to consider is stateroom choice and category. Are you thinking of a Haven suite or an interior stateroom? Perhaps, somewhere in-between? If you could narrow it down to some of the RCCL ships that you like, it would help to compare/contrast with NCL.
  10. We've done it. My wife has it as her phone's wallpaper. You can buy the print or the digital. There are different photo borders to choose from.
  11. It was fun to watch. VIBE runners are like sprinters while pier runners are like power walkers when it comes to speed. That's an interesting idea. I wonder how high people would be willing to go.... ...well, that's one answer. ๐Ÿ˜
  12. FAS dining promo went from unlimited uses to 4 uses to 3 uses to 2 uses for a 7 night cruise. Haven/Suite guests were charged the (then 18%) service charge on the promos starting in June 2017.
  13. D'oh, I didn't notice the word "plus" in the title. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ
  14. https://www.ncl.com/about/terms-and-conditions/promotions Number of meals depends on what your stateroom category is and length of cruise. For you, it will be either 2 or 3 meals for each of the first two guests in the stateroom. IN WHICH VENUES WILL MY SPECIALTY DINING PACKAGE BE HONORED? Specialty Dining Packages are honored in the following restaurants: Cagneyโ€™s Steakhouse, Food Republic, Italian, Le Bistro, Los Lobos, Moderno Churrascaria, Pincho Tapas Bar, Q Texas Smokehouse, Raw Bar, Seafood, Sushi and Teppanyaki. Guests may also dine in select entertainment-based restaurants using their SDP meal. An SDP meal in a la carte restaurants includes 1 appetizer, 1 soup or salad, 1 main course and 1 dessert (does not apply to cover charge restaurants or Food Republic, Pincho Tapas Bar and Sushi, where a meal includes any 4 menu items). SDP does not include beverages and additional and/or premium menu items will incur charges.
  15. It differs by ship. Seashore/Seascape are done differently than Seaside and, I would guess, Seaview (I've never sailed Seaview).
  16. This has happened to a couple of people on the forum but thanks for the reminder.๐Ÿ‘
  17. Same with an occasional daily special.
  18. Teppanyaki is limited. If your group is small (2), they might be able to squeeze you in somewhere. Otherwise, make a reservation if you really want it.
  19. Need to? No. Highly recommended to make reservations? Yes. Yes.
  20. Ships that allow diapers have a different sanitization setup than ships that don't allow diapers. It isn't simply a rule that cruise lines can go any way that they want with. If you are on a ship that allows diapers in that area, go right ahead. If you are on a ship that doesn't allow diapers in that area, don't put the diapers in that area.
  21. I would eliminate Divina since the Yacht Club restaurant isn't within the Yacht Club enclave. Seashore/Seascape are practically twins with very minor differences between the two Yacht Clubs. Seaside Yacht Club is close to the EVO ships (Seashore/Seascape) but is a bit smaller. It does have fewer people in the Yacht Club, though. The Seaside Yacht Club pool does not have a shallow side while the EVO ships do. Meraviglia Yacht Club was very nice but I prefer the Sea*** ships. There's more shade on the Meraviglia sundeck thanks to the partial coverage from the glass panels. There's also no shallow end of the pool. Food/beverage service is great for all but a shorter walking distance for the Sea**** ships. There are also more cabanas/pergolas on the Sea**** ships. They can either be rented or first come/first serve depending on ship. Meraviglia only has 3 cabanas but 2 of them are reserved for the Royal Suites. The 3rd one can be reserved. Getting to the sundeck is easy. There is a dedicated elevator (inside of the Yacht Club) that will take you to the lounge, restaurant, or sundeck if your stateroom is on a different deck. After being on all of the classes that you've listed (other than Divina), I put the EVO ships tied for first, Seaside class third, and Meraviglia class fourth. I haven't sailed on a Meraviglia Plus ship since they aren't in Florida. I prefer the TSL/restaurant setup on the Sea**** ships over Meraviglia. It's brighter/more open on the newer ships. I'm booked on World America for next year but I don't know if you plan to sail before or after it arrives. That could also be an option for you.
