  1. Sailor05,

I've had that exact room recently on the Oasis. The room is HUGE, the closet is big enough to rent out as a guest room. You could easily put 4 or 5 people in there. There's also an automatic door opener inside the room to keep the door open for wheel chairs to get in and out of easily. Huge balcony as well and a ton of storage space. The shower is flat and has the slotted drain on the floor. We built a barricade with towels every am to catch the extra water. The toilet is also raised so it's different than a normal toilet. Great room, great size but the location can be noisy because it's directly under the pool deck on deck 15. There are 2 js accessible cabins and they're across from each other. 1 on the port side and 1 on the starboard.

    Good luck

We are in Central Park Balconies, not JS which I think is what you're talking about? I bet the JS accessible cabins are huge. Yep, I already thought about the towel barricade so I'm glad to know it works good. I'm concerned about the noise, but I assume that would be during the day and by bed time I hope it's quieter.

  2. We did have a zero-threshold shower, but the water did NOT get all over the bathroom floor, because the entire shower threshold (two sides of the square) were made up of a 6" wide floor drain. All the water from the shower flowed into the drain and never went any further into the rest of the bathroom.

Thank you! That's good to know. Maybe I'll just have the room attendant leave a couple extra floor towels to put around the shower area if it makes it's way out onto the floor. With it being the Oasis, I don't think the ship will do much rocking so hopefully it will be a non-issue.

  3. Once final payment period has past than RCCL is permitted to release all non sold Accessible Cabins for general booking. Final payment has not been made but you are somewhat incorrect. The TA and a rep from RCCL said during a conference call when I made the change that they release these accessible cabins when all other cabins in that category are sold out, NOT all on the ship.

You statement "They told me that we could be bumped if it was needed and I told my TA to see if they can put it in the notes that I would prefer it so that we don't keep someone who needs that kind of room from cruising" is somewhat confusing. By having stated "I told my TA to see if they can put it in the notes that I would prefer it " implies that you would prefer not to be moved regardless of the fact that you stated " so that we don't keep someone who needs that kind of room from cruising." Perhaps that wasn't your intention ?

I do not know how else to say this but you are absolutely misunderstanding this statement. "I would prefer it" means it they bump me then I'm happy because "I prefer it". Sorry if that makes no sense to you.

Generally speaking the bathroom and closet is what Able Body Individuals complain about in an Accessible cabin . The bathroom has a zero threshold shower meaning there is no step over edge that prevents water from spilling out to onto the entire bathroom floor partially if the ship is really rocking. Also there is no under sink shelf for storage. The sink tends to be lower to accommodate someone using a wheelchair or mobility scooter.

The closet can vary between ships. Sometimes the closet will have a top pole that has a bar that can be used to pull it down so that someone in a wheelchair or mobility scooter can reach it. Other times there are only lower poles so hanging pants straight legged rather than folded over a hanger, dresses and skirts can be a challenge.

Yes I am disabled and do required the use of an Accessible Cabin or cannot cruise but will not flame you. Rather only suggest that you keep checking standard cabins to see if something else becomes available thus not requiring the need for an Accessible Cabin I do this every day in hopes that something else becomes available, or the price drops and I can move into an OV balcony for less than the $2k that it would be now (a whole lot less)..

Thank you for your input on the cabin differences! I appreciate it.

  4. Oct is hurricane season, have you travelled during those months and would you still travel during those months?

October is indeed during hurricane season but the "peak" season is mid August to mid-September so at least you're a month outside that. The cruise lines are very well up to date and will change itineraries as needed to keep everyone safe. If it were not for my DD being in school I wouldn't hesitate a bit to book in October. Our first few were in Sept and Oct with no issues. And the prices are a LOT cheaper than summer! Plus down that far if something was to brew up they're not as intense on the Southern end of the Caribbean as they haven't gone over the warmer waters yet and they are usually pretty fast moving down there keeping the impact to the cruise at a minimum. Once all the way down to Aruba and Curacao then it really becomes a non issue as they just don't affect them.

  5.

St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Caraco and Aruba!

We did a very similar itinerary in 2008 on AOS for my sons graduation. We did a couple of extra days pre and post cruise in San Juan to make it extra special. There's a lot to do in PR like Segway tours and horseback riding etc. It's definitely our favorite cruise we've ever taken. We tried this year to do the AOS but it was booked up the week we're going.

    Have fun!!

  6. I recently had to change from 2 rooms with 2 in each to 1 room with 2 and the other with 3. The only room in our category (Central Park Balcony) that would hold 3 was an accessible room on deck 14 (the other is on 10). They told me that we could be bumped if it was needed and I told my TA to see if they can put it in the notes that I would prefer it so that we don't keep someone who needs that kind of room from cruising. So please don't flame me for taking that room. The only other categories was an Ocean view balcony that was over $2k more:eek: and an inside that was a couple hundred more but I'm not willing to pay more and get less.

My question is what will be the big differences in the room. I know it's larger but that's no big deal to us, we don't spend enough time in the cabin to care about some more floor space. But I see the closet looks different and the shower in the bathroom looks like there are no walls, but just a curtain I guess to make it easier to get in and out. That just seems weird to me to just be a curtain and there's a drain in front of the door which suggests to me that when showering the water gets all over the bathroom floor:(

I'm really hoping that something else opens up or maybe the OV balconies come down in price before we sail so that we can switch out. Plus I'm not real happy that we went from the 10th deck to the 14th which puts us closer to the pools and all of the noise that comes with them. But I had to do what I could to allow this additional person to go.

Any other thoughts on these accessible rooms??

  7. Now that the obvious has been said:rolleyes: I'll tell you to try and locate a website for them and send an email stating your husbands weight and see if they would allow it. If he's close they may, if he's way over then probably not. But no, I seriously doubt they will weigh him. I have NEVER seen this done on an excursion...

  8. Why is it so hard to understand that even if someone can't get it all done (or nearly all for that matter), they could still have a very enjoyable few hours in the magic? I'd rather have 2 hours at Disney World than no hours. I don't think anyone, including OP, has suggested that they expect to get all of Disney World done in a day.

Well said! Besides, I thought Port Canaveral was a wasted stop anyway. Especially if one had been on cruises that depart from there. I've looked at cruises with that stop and didn't care for them but I didn't realize I could have a day at Disney. I'll look at those cruises differently from now on:D

    Have a great time OP!!

  9. Thanks again for the info.

Does the OBC have to be used the 1st day, or can you wait a day before purchasing the Drink package and apply it at that time?

There is a 4 day minimum (assuming a 7 day cruise). So you can wait until day 3 if you want. The OBC will be refunded at the end of the cruise if you don't use it.

  10. Yes, you should have 14 points then.

    From Crown and Anchor:

After January 21, 2011 all cruises receive one cruise point for every night you sail.

Want to question a Cruise Points Value?

Cruise Points may take up to 14 days from the date of cruise to show up on your account. Please check within that window if you do not see a reflection of the cruise in your cruise history. After 14 days, if your Cruise Points are still not showing up then please contact the Crown & Anchor Desk at (800) 526-9723.

  11. For those who want balconies (including CP and BW), would be better off taking today's promotion that includes the $200 OBC instead of having to purchase 2 packages that will cost you $681, unless you were for sure going to get them anyway. This is based on the $454 for the Premium AFTER the 18% gratuities. Of course this is only if they don't lower the prices overnight.

  12. Thanks for all your replies and advice! I'm not experienced by no means it's just sometimes I like to look at the cards when I get some funky numbers showing. Plus I will have some newbies with me and it will definitely help them[emoji12] This way when they ask me what they should do I'll just tell them to refer to the card and then I can't take the blame[emoji15]

  13. Does the dealer have to hit or stay on soft 17? I like to bring colored blackjack cards with me and they have ones for dealers hit on soft 17 or stay on soft 17. Do they still do the single deck games? And finally do they have $6 tables? Enough of them? I like to warm up on those and if I'm doing good I'll move up (no more than $25 though)

  14. Are you saying that if you use your RC BoA card in Europe there is

no foreign transaction fee...not on ship but on land. I think one would

be charged. You have to research what cards do not charge the FT fee.

I'm reading and re-reading and I don't see where anyone said anything about using the card IN EUROPE. What I see is a question about the charges on the ship:confused:

  15. They will not give on this issue. If the dining room is full then it's full. They will not bump somebody out of their dining time to accommodate someone else. That just would not be good business. However, we've had the 8:30 before and went the first day and had it changed to 6:00 with no problems at all. There are lots of changes that day and inevitably someone who has the 6:00 will want the 8:30, or MTD which open up slots. So all is not lost so don't get stressed as I have complete faith if you get there EARLY and get your names on the list you will get want you want.:)
