Thanks for that info. We are on the same cruise, and looking forward to it! (and looking forward to the steakhouse, too)

PlanoTim... no explanation needed. All is well. Everyone does things their own way.
I just wanted to make sure we got our money's worth, and we ended up spending so much time doing that... that we felt we lost out on other experiences. I think next cruise we will just choose to pay for our own, and drink less ... But our next cruise is Carnival Vista 8 Day (03JUN), with only ONE sea day... so we will be too busy and tired to drink like that anyway :-D

At Giovanni's table, they recommended that we get several entrees. They were small entrees overall, but we were STUFFED after eating all of them.
cincicruisers - Let us know what you think when you return. ENJOY!!!!

Thanks for your fun video. We went on a 3 day Amsterdam trip last year right after it returned from the world Cruise, to begin the Alaska season. She's a lovely ship.

Nice review. Thanks! We only had 3 days on the Amsterdam, but the MDR food was pretty good. Only one of the meals I had would rate less than a B+ to the best of my memory... It was quite enjoyable. We did not attend any of the specialty restaurants, but would love to next time.

On our October Navigator cruise, we DID go with the drink package, and I kept track of every drink we had. We definitely came out ahead, based on menu prices... BUT BUT BUT....
We spent so much time and effort trying to make sure we came out "ahead", that we spent little time doing anything other than drinking.
The lesson we learned here is that while drinking is fun, sometimes there are other things to do, and it's hard to have your cake and eat it too. We would be unlikely to get the package again, in my best estimation.
Thoughts?

If you like fish, I highly recommend the snapper @ Sabor. AWESOME

It's always neat to hear the experiences of different people. I would eat Sabor again and again, yet your experience was poor. I am sorry to hear that, and wonder if it was just an "off" day . I didn't try chops, as others had said it was "OK"... I'd love to try Chops and go back to Sabor again.. maybe it's time to book another trip.... hmmmm. ;)

If by "on demand" you mean what RMLincoln just described, then yes. It was there in my inside cabin on the Nieuw Amsterdam. At least there the TV could be seen from the couch. It was on the wall by the side of the couch.
(best viewing angle was from the toilet, if you could figure a way to keep the door open. ;) )
Probably true, Ruth... but the seat isn't very comfy...

Given the choice, I definitely like doing these things online. My debit card has been shut down for trying to get cash when in Vegas... that's always fun.
Online, at least you see instant confirmation that the change was made, and the person on the phone didn't monkey things up at all... For that matter, I do almost everything online...

I think to find the best place to read, etc... you may need to just wander about and find the best place for the moment. There are a lot of choices, but obviously sometimes things get a little noisier... but in general, I feel like you can always find someplace quiet.
There are tasty snacks in the Cafe Promenade... try the Roti wrap when you see it! Good stuff. Enjoy your journey.. I'm sure you will.
If you have any interest in the specialty restaurants, we posted a few short reviews on our blog... There's more coming, but the holidays made us lazy. :)

How exciting!!!! I hope to someday do a World Cruise, as I cannot get enough travel. Please travel safely and enjoy yourselves. We were on the Amsterdam just after the World Cruise last year, and she's a lovely ship!
ENJOY!

I am a bit jealous. We spent 3 days on the Amsterdam over the summer, and had a good time. And the food.... oh my, it was quite tasty.
Cheers! I will try to follow along.

I always get the tip ready and put it near the door.. sometimes in the holder for the do not disturb sign... or have it sorted and in my pocket so the handoff can be quick and easy.
Beyond that, I agree with previous answers... 2-5 is a good number that seems to be standard.

Yuck! Stuck in port until day 3? I guess at least you were on a ship... beats being at work... but still... ewww....
-
Thanks, Clarea for answering that. I will say that IMHO, Sabor is a DON'T-MISS... but YMMV
-
We also didn't try Chops, but the others were all quite good. Sabor was my favorite, for sure. So very tasty.
-
The very same :) I didn't find that last year before my cruise, and wanted to help others. Thanks for sharing. :)

There... Edited first post so photo is readable. Hope this helps!

Not sure if anyone has shared this, but I took a quick photo of the drink menu from day 1 out of Galveston back in October on the NOS. People had wondered about drink availability due to Texas liquor laws. This is the "Official" list that they had at the bars, but in my experience, they had a few other options (just not very many others).
Enjoy! A review should be coming soon here and on our blog.

Well, our website address has changed due to an unfortunate oversight with translation... turns out "Bon Voyage Bites" is not a very nice thing if you translate to French... and considering "Bon Voyage" is already French... well.... seems a silly oversight. A username change will be next. Check out the new layout and let us know what you think!
Thanks, and ENJOY!

Hi everybody! We went on a cruise on Navigator out of Galveston, back in October. We had a great time. We have been really bad about keeping our blog updated and posting here to share and learn from all of you. While we were on board the Navigator, we went to 3 of the specialty restaurants.
I would have to say that the dish I had at Sabor was the BEST fish dish I had ever eaten... I ordered the Pan Seared Red Snapper and was amazed at how good it was. I am getting hungry just thinking about it.
Giovanni's table was recommended by some of the fine folks on here, and it was also quite the great dinner. They serve somewhat smaller portions, but you can choose many of them and we left STUFFED! I am not a tiny person by any means, so that's saying something :)
We have a blog post about it as well, and hope to get up to date on some of our other posts from that trip (we've been holiday-slackers). Check it out at http://www.everywhereandback.com/navigator-specialty-restaurants/
If you have been to our blog before, you may have noticed a name change. Turns out Bon Voyage Bites isn't very friendly if you put it into French ... oops. I will look into changing our username on here as well (any advice? I haven't looked into it yet).
Has anyone else any experience in the NOS Specialty restaurants?

I had a good experience with Galveston Express. I DID have issues with the voice mailbox, as they are growing too fast for their own good... but in general I had great customer service and a comfortable ride.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. :(

I cannot say for all cruises, as I am a Royal Caribbean newbie, but on our recent Navigator cruise, they were offering 25% off of restaurants booked on board... sadly, we had already paid full price ahead of time...
Your mileage may vary ;)

I am pretty sure that's who was on our Breeze cruise a few years back... Should be fun! THanks!
