  1. My husband and I did this for our 19 year old son on the Sky in March 2015 when it was unlimited beverages. We took our drivers licenses and our passports and were prepared to be quizzed at the front desk. It was pretty much no questions asked and they had our son and one of us (as his parent) sign the form. We stayed in an aft suite and every time we ate lunch or dinner in Cagneys the waitress would bring out a bottle of the wine he enjoyed drinking - knowing he would want more than one glass with his meal. Enjoy your time together on the Sky!!!

    Thanks so much for your response! We are in a forward penthouse suite! :) We are looking forward to it!

  2. I recently went to book our entertainment and dining reservations on the Escape for our upcoming Western Caribbean Cruise leaving on Aug 5th. Strangely, when I go online to book reservations in La Cucina it only shows me times up to 7:00 no matter which night I select. I am wondering why NCL doesn't show any times later than 7:00 on any night for just this one restaurant, could it be a website glitch? Part of me is wondering if this a sign that our cruise is once again a dreaded partial charter... :(

    I have had a similar problem- call your personal cruise consultant at NCL and he or she can make you your reservations over the phone! :) They have access to all the time slots! ;)

  3. We are booking a cruise on the PEARL and considering an SF aft balcony. All of the Haven suites are booked so those are not an option for us. We have stayed in the Haven on the Getaway, so I'm familiar with Haven perks. I am wondering what perks the SF gives us, specifically...

    1. I don't think we have Haven access (bar or restaurant) but do we get any suite dining perk like Cagney's or Moderno for breakfast and lunch?
    2. Is there a butler assigned to us? What about concierge access? I don't want to sound cheap (ha) but we don't need either really, so it's a plus if we're not required to have them and thus, don't have to tip them.
    3. What about the priority seating area in the showroom?
    4. As for priority boarding, do we have the same waiting area as the Haven folks?

    I wrote about our Suite experience on the Pearl last month! :)

  4. Hello! We are taking a family reunion cruise in July- 12 people total- from 5 years old to 60+ (6 adults, 6 kids). This will be my 8th cruise, but the first for almost everyone else. I have some questions

    1). I have been to Nassau before on a different boat (3 times on the Sensation, 1x on Fascination). Is the Liberty much different?

    2). Any must bring things for kids? I have only ever taken 1 child on a cruise, now I'm taking 4!!

    3). I have never cruised in July before. Is it typically packed and does it feel overcrowded.

    4). Any ideas on how to stay in contact with the other members of our party while on the boat? HUB app? Whiteboard on the cabin door?

    5). Should we do the anytime dining or pick a time? I've never cruised with such a large party before!

    6). Is it worth it to do an excursion? I think I did one the first time I went to Nassau, but it involved drinking and that's not appropriate this time around. The other times, we just went to a public beach and rented chairs.

    7) Thoughts on the kids club. Kids ages 5, 7, 7, 8, 12 and 15.

    Any insight/suggestions would be much appreciated! Thank you!

    Hi there! I have reviewed the Liberty on my blog-

    http://thecheerfulcruiser.blogspot.com/2016/06/carnival-liberty-cruise-review.html

    and I have a FB page too that you can like-https://www.facebook.com/The-Cheerful-Cruiser-1713812358872821/ I would set up a time for dining for your entire party so you can guarantee a seating for all of you. The early seating at 6 has always worked best for my family.

    As for your questions- the Liberty is a Conquest Class ship so the layout is a bit different compared to the Fascination (I have been on both). I personally like the Liberty layout better. :) In July the weather is just plain old hot- so be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen for the kids! (and adults) :) I have seen folks use walkie talkies to keep in touch. In Nassau there is a nice beach within walking distance of the ship (Junkanoo) so unless your kiddos really want to swim with dolphins I would skip an excursion. My son has only done the teen club (Club 02) but he really liked all the times he attended. I am happy to help answer any questions if I can! :)

  5. It looks like I have some anxious followers that are waiting on another review. So, I decided to get started in between my very hectic life at the moment.

    But first...the "formalities" to get out of the way.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ABOUT MY FAMILY AND WHO CRUISED THIS TIME:
    This cruise was just for myself, my husband and Sakari (pronounced just like it's spelled Sa-Kar-ee, our now 9 year old daughter. This time, my 3 other adult children would remain home (Kenny-30, Kendra-28 and Kolin-22). Kendra tried (as she always does) to go, but her fiance talked her into a Vegas trip instead and she had a blast (but was wishing she was with us instead for the first few days).
    So...what does this mean for us? It means we had a "peaceful" cruise that wasn't too stressful with a hyper/hard too control/off the hook grandson and a slow moving family (Kendra) that lives her life on "island time".
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    My Cruising Experience:

    As you can tell from my signature line, we mainly cruise with NCL and I have been trying to cruise the entire fleet. I have yet to be on the Gem or Escape.

    I decided to try Carnival, back in 2013, and I'm so glad I did and we have a wonderful time on Carnival. So far, this will be our 5th cruise with Carnival and not our last for sure.

    In the 80's and 90's I also sailed with NCL and Royal Caribbean.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ORGANIZATION FOR THE REVIEWS:
    People always ask how I organize for my reviews and it takes A LOT to put together a review like this. Once I decided to post how I personally organize for my reviews and if you are interested, it can be found HERE-1ST HALF and the 2ND HALF HERE.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    CAMERAS:

    I am constantly questioned about what type of camera's I use for my reviews.

    Several years ago I decided to purchase my first Olympus point-and-shoot camera (not by choice, but because I had one of my many "bloopers" with my Canon cameras). I have loved the Olympus since that purchase that we actually have quite a few of them.

    This entire review was shot with my Olympus Tough TG2. I take my model 620 & 830 along with me for back up because you never know what might happen and I would be devastated if I was without a camera. For Christmas, we also purchased Sakari her own camera (I think we got her the 620 model).

    I'm a photography FREAK! Always have been. I do have a DSLR with tons of equipment, lens, and so on, but I find that I just don't want to lug it around with me on a cruise...and of course it's not waterproof.

    When I process my photo's, I do take it in to PS (I have to get my watermark on there somehow) and I have an "action" that resizes the picture for a more appropriate posting size, and sharpens for web and I put my stamp on it. Every once in awhile I'll get a really crappy picture that just needs something (like white balance) done to it and I really want to share it and I might white balance it. For the most part, I don't do much of anything...no one has time for all that with the thousands of pictures I take!

    I take thousands of pictures on vacation and I do a lot of walking and snapping. Yes, I may get some outstanding photos and quality, but for every good picture I get, there may be 3 bad ones. You win some, you lose some. I've been known to stand in a spot and take 3-5 pictures of the same thing, using different settings on the camera, just to get what I'm looking for to share. That's just me.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ABOUT MY REVIEWS:
    I am a very open and honest person. Everyone has a different expectation and experience, but I report how I feel during mine. You may or may not agree with my thoughts or views, but that's the beauty of it...everyone is different and all thoughts and comments are welcome.
    We are a fun loving and outgoing family that, for the most part, don't get upset about much and roll with the punches. We've had a lot of "bloopers" (especially when the kids come along=Kendra lol), but it is what it is and I have learned over the years that getting mad or upset doesn't solve the problem and only takes away from the fun, so I try not to dwell on bad things (although I will always report them...not to be a Debbie-Downer, but to show this is the experience I had and how it contributed to what was going on at the time) and I move on.
    We are BEACH people. So, if you are the touristy type of person that like historical stuff, seeing the sites, or likes to do the land tours, this review might not benefit you too much as far as the ports. If there's a beach, we will be there! I have to drag Sakari the Mermaid out of the water every place we go. So, to the beach it is for us. Sakari decided last year that she wanted to "be a scuba diver" and took classes and is now a certified PADI Seal. She is waiting to turn 10 years old to get her open water certificate...but we will see. So, you will find us doing some scuba diving in reviews as well.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    LAST BUT NOT LEAST: WHY I DO THE REVIEWS

    My reviews are meant to be helpful to others looking for information. I'm a "picture" kinda girl and if I'm looking for information, give me a picture to help me understand and it will go 10x further in helping me with a decision. So many of you wonderful cruisers have helped me decide places to try out, shared your experiences with me, and even cruised with me....and this is my way of thanking you and continuing to help others the way they have helped me.

    I'm keeping this "opening" a little shorter than normal. Most people around here know me and I hate to constantly repeat things...so if you want a more detailed "opening" statement, you are welcome to click on one of my other reviews (in my signature line) and it will give you more info on us. :)

    With that said...I hope you enjoy the review. :cool:

    I am excited to hear your thoughts! :) We loved the Conquest! :) Check my blog and FB page out too! :)

  6. Can anyone tell me some pro's and con's of staying in a balcony room on the spa deck?

    I will be on the Victory.

    Sent from my iPhone using Forums

    We loved our spa deck balcony on the Conquest a few years ago. Like the Victory there were no special spa amenities. However, it was super quiet and the hallways smelled nice! :) The only caveat is that there is a slight covering on the balcony so you will get lots of sun. We liked that but you may not. :)

  7. We are sailing on the Escape out of Miami on June 3. Our eDocs say we can arrive to the pier at whatever time we want because we have booked transportation through NCL. We have 2 Silver Latitudes members, 4 Bronze members, and 2 kids (8 and 6). Three of the 6 adults will require assistance to board, which we've already arranged through the Assistance Desk and the mobility at sea people. We do want to have lunch in one of the dining rooms as opposed to the buffet. What would be the best time to arrive, in the opinion of people who have done it before?

    If you don't mind waiting get there at 10. This will be enough time to park, check in, etc. and find a seat near the area you enter for boarding at the port. You can also let one of the NCL attendants know your situation and they will likely get you in an early group. :)

  8. About us - We are Tyler and Molly from Orlando. This is our 4th NCL cruise together. Our first cruise was the Sky (4 night bahamas cruise), our 2nd was the Star which did Western Caribbean, and April 2016 we went on the Getaway for our honeymoon (I believe that was eastern Caribbean). We decided a couple months ago we needed to go on another cruise and we liked the Getaway so much we decided to sail on her again. We had been on this itinerary before (On the Star) but it had been several years and we hadn't been to NCL's private island in Belize yet. I hope you like our review! It is mostly written by me but Tyler did add a few things himself.

    Sunday -

    Embarkation was a breeze. Our "Arrival time" was 10. Security went by fast, then we waited in the waiting room where coffee and water was provided. We were probably on the ship by 12. We immediately signed up for the escape room for Saturday (first ones to sign up) then I got drinks from the atrium bar (lol) while Tyler re-arranged some of our dining reservations. Lunch in MDR. I got some shrimp pasta dish and Tyler got fish n chips. Appetizers were popcorn shrimp and crab stuffed potato skin. Food was good! Then we went to the thermal spa and signed up for spa passes. We LOVE the spa. We tried to upgrade to the spa haven suite but unfortunately were outbid. Dinner- went to tepanaki. I had filet and scallop and tyler had shrimp and scallops. Yummy but we definitely ate too much and were uncomfortably full. We then went to the spa (open til 10) and then to bed.

    Our room was 13888. Great location. We often felt the boat "vibrating" which wasn't a big deal other than this rattling noise which seemed to be occurring in the wall. Seem to mostly happen while we were going at high speeds

    Monday (sea day)

    Margaritaville for breakfast. Kind of the same food as buffet but smaller selection and less crowded.

    Lunch - buffet. We really like the Indian food there.

    Dinner- ocean blue was LEGIT. On cruise critic we have heard you can get "unlimited appetizers and one entree." Our waiter told us we could only get one app. We told him we had been there before and were allowed to get multiple previously. He asked his manager and told us they would "make an exception" for us. We each got stone crab (one of our favs), tyler got oyster Rockefeller and I got mussels. All was great. Then for entrees I got Dover Sole and Tyler got a Lobster. We were extremely full after that and went to bed shortly after.

    Tuesday

    Woke up to the captain informing us they weren't able to maintain enough speed to get us to Roatan in time. Instead of 10 we would now be arriving at 10:30. To make up for it we departed at 7 rather than 6. We went to little French key which was cool! Kind of a rough, hot bus ride there but once we got there it was nice. The water was beautiful with a swim up bar with swings. There was a 18 year old kid from the Carnival Dream which was also in Honduras that day and he was WASTED. people were talking bets on how long it would take him to puke. It was pretty funny. The water was the perfect temperature and was clear. Drinks were good. The food was GREAT. lobster, shrimp and rice and beans. Seriously Delicious. We loved the two local Honduran beers we tried. There was also a place you could swing off into the ocean which was really fun. Tyler lost his Apple Watch in the water when using the swing (it's very high). He went to grab snorkel gear to look for it, but before he even put his flippers on an employee had found it. I guess my only reservation about going back to LFK is the animals in the "sanctuary". In general I am against zoos, and I didn't think the Pumas or young lions should be in such small enclosures. It made me very sad. But everyone has different ideas about that so make up your own minds. We both held little "johnny" the monkey who was in a fiesty mood and was biting us a little after trying to run away haha. After we got back we relaxed in the spa and I accidentally fell asleep for a while. Then we went to O'Sheehans and had wings and drinks/watched the bob Marley tribute while we waited for dinner in the noodle bar. Dinner was great. Then went to comedy which was hilarious and caught the tail end of battle of the sexes. Not much more going on so we went to bed.

    Wednesday- woke up to captain saying the Belize pier was damaged by a storm and that we couldn't dock until they inspected it. So he decided we would have another sea day. We had our balcony door open and one of our neighbors was IRATE because "he only came on this cruise to see Belize." Many f-bombs were dropped. We were going to explore the island but mostly we had been planning on enjoying a less crowded ship, so it wasn't a huge deal from us. We both got a $30 refund that day on our account. The pool crowd was WILD that day! DJ and band playing good music. Also spent time in the thermal spa (my fav place on the ship). Had dinner at Tropicana and watched the mini burn the floor performance which was really neat. We went to the "full length" burn the floor last year and we did like it, it was just too long for our taste, so we didn't think we'd need to go again. I think this is also the day we did the theater comedy show (hilarious, I highly recommend and different material than in Headliners).

    Thursday - Costa Maya

    We once again went to Maya Chan (we went there maybe 5 years ago and loved it). We were walking down the pier and the wind was so strong I thought that we were going to be blown off the pier. We finally made it to the maya Chan meeting area outside of the main gate and took the about 20-30 min ride to maya Chan. They warn you ahead of time that the ride is bumpy and that "at least it's not your car getting damaged" which is a good point. At maya chan every group is brought to their own little area with nice chairs, an umbrella and a comfy bed. We had a "welcome back" sign since it was our second time there. We LOVE the food there too. It's basically a taco buffet with different meats and toppings. Super delicious. All you can eat chips, salsa, guacamole all day. We did stand up paddle boarding here too. Drinks were great and kept coming. Back on the ship we saw million quarter which was great!!!

    Friday - Cozumel

    Went on a "bike tour" with beach bum Cozumel. Last time we were in Cozumel we were told that we should see the east side of the island, so we did the "east side" tour. There is like a bike path which goes almost all the way around the island separate from the car lane which is really cool. The bikes were "motorized" so pedaling was optional (lol). I didn't pedal at all the whole time but my husband did a decent amount. It was just us on the tour. Those bikes can go pretty fast. Our tour guide Gabriel was very friendly and the driver David was nice too. Gabriel explained to us a lot about the Island and pointed out different birds, structures, and plants. The east side of the island is much less "developed" and is very beautiful. The tour also included lunch and he brought us to a tequila tasting where we ended up buying some tequila. Only "negative" thing was it did take a decent amount of time to get to the east side of the island (about 30 minutes). Basically they drive you and the bikes (bikes attached on a trailer) to a starting point and then you bike while David follows you in the car (but he is in the street, we are biking with Gabriel on the bike path). You can leave your stuff in there with him. Fajitas and beer for lunch, then back to beach bums. Beach bums is actually near the port with the carnival ships so be aware you will need to walk or take a cab. We were concerned for time so we cabbed there ($8) and walked back. The walk was along the water and took maybe 40 minutes. We came back to the ship and did the ropes course. While we were up there the wind started to blow very hard so we had to get down. We ate at Le Bistro this day which was great. The Glow (formerly White Hot) party was this night at 10:30 in the rear of the ship at spice h2o. They advise you wear neon or white this night. This was very fun and our cruise director started things off with an interesting dance. We found the music to be pretty repetitive (similar sounding edm over and over) so we didn't stay too long.

    Saturday-

    Spent most of the day by the pool or thermal spa. That night we ate in noodle bar again. Then went to the farewell show which we enjoyed. We drank quite a few mojitos after the show. They are amazing. The mojito bar is the best bar on the ship in my opinion and never very busy. We then went to howl at the moon which was so good that we ran up to our room to put our bags outside at 11pm then went back down. It was really crazy - lots of talent we had seen previous nights showed up and sang or played instruments. One of the burn the floor dancers apparently plays every instrument so played drums, piano and guitar. Another sang a few songs. The bubble magician showed up and sang a song! Johnny cash from the million dollar even showed up and played for a while. We didn't get the impression that this was typical. We stayed until 1am!

    Miscellaneous notes:

    • we did the Haven last time and saw our two favorite bartenders from the haven now work as managers in the bars around the ship. They both apparently got promotions which isn't surprising since they were both great
    • We got lured in at the beginning buy trying to guess the weight of the Giraffe. We ended up going to the auction just because we wanted to see who guessed her weight correctly. The auction ended up being super annoying and made us feel uneasy. At one point they were handing out applications for a "syncrony loan" in order to get a free piece of art or something (so weird). Anyway, I did see a piece of art I liked but I wasn't going anywhere near that auction again and I had already mentally decided I would only pay $50 and the minimum bid was like $800 (I'm definitely not an art connoisseur) .
    • We tried to upgrade to haven but our bids weren't high enough. We had so much fun on this cruise we actually decided that Haven isn't worth the extra money. I think it's worth upgrading if you can for a reasonable amount but we would never actually buy the Haven ticket at full price. We did a lot of random things throughout the ship that we didn't do before because of Haven. Don't get me wrong, it was nice, just not worth an extra 5 grand or whatever the cost is.

    Did you find the spa to be crowded? We are headed for a 3rd time on the Getaway in 2018 and have a spa balcony booked! :)

  9. Doing our first NCL Getaway this fall and decided to follow Cruise Critic's recommendation of (1) skipping the buffet on embarkation day and (2) avoiding the elevators. However, we do have a child with a disability who is pretty limited on how long he can walk. Can anyone recommend the best restaurant(s) to go to after we embark so we don't have to wander about looking for one to get our first meal of the trip? Thank you, everyone, for the wonderful feedback I've seen in the forum--it certainly has been helpful.

    Taste, Savor and O'Sheehans are all close to where you get on the ship and an easy walk. If you board in an early group and get to lunch by noon you should be fine getting a table at any of the three sit down restaurants. We typically avoid the buffet the first day for lunch as it can be chaotic! :)

  10. Can someone off a recent sailing tell me what nights they perform this, when and where and what times? Thanks!

    They have a website which states where they will be- we got lucky and saw them on the Pearl the beg. of March. They were AMAZING! :) They had 2 different shows on 2 nights and were also in the final show as well. The shows were in the theater at 7/9 ish time slots. I hope you get to see them! Here is their site-

  11. We need help! We're planning to book a cruise on the Escape. We have the choice between a Larger Balcony on deck 8 (near the Waterfront) or an Aft Balcony.

    One would be more "near the action, the other is... an Aft Cabin (need I say more)?

    Which would you take (and why)? The Aft Cabin is about $100 more pp, and we do not have any mobility problems. Thanks in advance.

    We LOVED our large balcony on deck 8 on the sister ship the Getaway! It was close to many bars and all the dining and activities on deck 6-7-8. :)

  12. I'm confused and tried to find a post answering this prior to posting here and couldn't. Why is the price difference of the M1 (Aft Balcony Mini Suite) so much cheaper than the B1 Aft Balcony regular cabin?

    We were in 10164 (Suite) and LOVED it! It is so quiet AFT on deck 10! Here is one of my blog posts-

    http://thecheerfulcruiser.blogspot.com/2017/03/norwegian-pearl-suite-life-cabin.html

    I have a Cheerful Cruiser FB page too and if you like it you can get my newest blog post updates! :)

  13. Considering booking a cruise on the Pearl in January 2019. It is a 10 day and we love the ports. I haven't been able to find too much in regards to this ship. I have cruised the Escape and loved it but understand that the Pearl will not be as big nor have as many entertainment venues. We are fine with that as we are curious to try out a smaller NCL ship. Thoughts on the food venues as well as outdoor space would be appreciated. We loved Vibe so I will miss that but hoping Pearl will not be as congested and hard to find a good suntanning spot. Is there a Howl at the Moon or something similar on the Pearl?

    We loved the Pearl- I reviewed it in detail here-

    http://thecheerfulcruiser.blogspot.com/2017/03/the-norwegian-pearl-post-dry-dock.html

  14. Does Entourage separate the teens into smaller groups? I can't imagine my 13 year old hanging out with 17 year olds....the age gap seems huge! Also, what kind of activities does Entourage offer?

    Sent from my iPhone using Forums

    They do not really seperate the teens but it really depends on the crowd. The first time my son did Entourage he was 14 and most of the teens were 17- but he still had fun. The second and third times everyone was middle teens, like him. The last two cruises there were lots of 13/14 year olds and few 17 years olds (like him). He did do karaoke and the dance parties, and also a few game nights though. The staff keeps an eye on everyone in the club and the kids have always been nice and respectful. :)

  15. A little background. I have primarily cruised Carnival, but have also sailed RC, MSC and NCL once each. I would certainly book Carnival again for our next vacation but there isn't an itinerary and ship with amenities we prefer that sails that particular week. It will be myself, my fiance and our 12 year old adventure loving, thrill-seeking daughter traveling. The Getaway seems to have all the adventure activities our DD would enjoy. The itinerary is also nice. As I said, I sailed NCL once about 12 years ago when freestyle cruising was first being introduced. I didn't care for it much at the time and we were on an older boat. I know NCL has made many upgrades to their freestyle cruising. We will not take advantage of any specialty dining, Haven area or "posh" pass. We will be choosing the bar package as our "promotion" of choice. We are trying to keep the expenses reasonable as we are also planning our wedding. We will book an inside cabin for 3. Will that be too tight? I know NCL rooms are smaller than Carnival. I am looking for advice from anyone who has sailed multiple lines of how it compares. Specifically how freestyle is these days. It seems like work to plan, schedule and make reservations. I do like more freedom and ability to dress how we wish (within reason of course). Also, any advice on the getaway for adults and a thrill seeking 12 year old would be helpful. Thanks in advance. Happy Cruising :)

    We loved the Getaway so much that we have been on it twice and have another trip planned on it for 2018! :) I blogged about NCL vs Carnival here- http://thecheerfulcruiser.blogspot.com/2016/05/comparing-norwegian-and-carnival-cruise.html

  17. We will sail on Jade in July with our 4 1/2 year old. She is quite outgoing and I thought she might enjoy the show at Teppanyaki (she is a non-picky eater as well). If we had the earliest dining time, how long would a meal take? Just trying to get an idea to see if this is feasible for us.

    Thanks in advance!

    About 90 minutes-or less if you don't get dessert! :)

  18. New to MSC and the Divina - we’re wondering what restaurants are open on embarkation afternoon… We really like the MDR for embarkation lunch on Princess, and hoping MSC had something other than buffet open for lunch

    The buffet was the only venue open our embarkation day on our Divina cruise in July 2016. The pizza on the buffet is amazing though! :)
