  1. The ship was beautiful, the crew great and the Cruise Critic group was a great group of folks! I will be posting videos here as I get them edited. Here is the first one, our balcony cabin.

Awesome pictures! Thanks again for setting up the CC Meet and Greet and activities! Everyone please check out my blog with posts reviewing our suite on the Pearl and more! Between Squidward and I we should have the whole ship covered! :D

  2. Thank you for this. Not the suite we will be in, but it is nice to at least be able to see some of the changes that will be in our room. Love the new colors. So different from our last cruise on the pearl!

  3. I thanked you directly on your blog, but am thanking you again on here in case that didn't go through. It was very kind of you to take the time to post all your suite pics. We are in your same type cabin (suite) only on the very front of the ship for our upcoming Panama Canal cruise. Looking forward to more of your pics and any advice you might have. What NOT to miss on the ship - what to skip; are bowling alleys still in lounge? Thanks again - appreciate your time! Did most of ship look in pretty good shape since I read entire ship was not refurbished - just some areas. We sailed Gem a few years ago and colors were extremely bright and sometimes even clashing in cabin - these look "more relaxed" - also makes cabin look even larger with the muted colors.

You are very welcome! :) I am working on lots more posts in between mountains of laundry! :) lol The ship was in great shape and everything was amazingly clean and spiffy! The bowling alleys were still in Bliss as well. I will be posting more on my blog soon! :) I also have a FB page where I update my latest blog posts-so please like it if you are on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/The-Cheerful-Cruiser-1713812358872821/?ref=bookmarks

  4. What was done to all cabins since dry dock? New rugs, drapes, furniture? One article stated all cabins were redone, but there were no pictures. If anyone has sailed since dry dock - - please let us know, and better yet - post some cabin pics. Thanks so much - smooth sailing!!

  5. Sailing on Spirit on 12 days and trying to find out what the menu for the Bier Garten is. Do they have authentic German food and beer or is it similar to other ships? (I've been on Sun and Epic)

Does anyone have any menus or recent experience of eating there?

    Thanks.

The Bier Garten was not really authentic- although they had lots of beers- as well as wine and full bar. There was hot dogs, hamburgers, bratwurst, fries, etc daily too.

  6. We're leaving this August on the Sky in cabin 9202. I'm just trying to get a feel of what the cabin will be like. And where the boys will be sleeping. It says it's a Penthouse w/Large Balcony. I've tried searching here but the search button is never available for some reason, tried searching on you tube and google and I find nothing. Even when I go to the NCL website, they show a stock photo of a suite along with a floor plan photo but even those don't "match". The photo shows two rooms where the floor plan photo shows one room. It's so confusing. LOL

I have read a couple small reviews but no tos. Can someone help me try to find real photos (not stock) or even videos of cabin 9202 on the Sky. Thanks!! It's much appreciated.

We will be in 9002 in August- how did you like the room? Was there a small sep. bedroom?

  7. Hey guys! Need some expert help here! My husband and I are wanting to cruise in April, out of Florida, Alabama or Louisiana. We have previously only sailed with carnival so only have experience with them. Our last ship was Dream and at the time it was the biggest and one of the best besides Oasis class. So now 7 years later we would love to take another cruise. I have been going back and forth on all the lines and ships. I've been trying to show my husband videos of the different ships. I need help picking the right cruise. We like: great food, entertainment, comedy, an adults only place to relax. My husband is not big on huge crowds but it's a cruise and I know that's impossible to avoid!

We are mid 30s. No kids, just us traveling. My husband wants to be wowed! We would love a full blown suite but realistically a balcony or mini suite is probably more in the budget.

    Ships we are considering:

    RC - Oasis class

    NC - Escape

    Carnival Vista

    MSC Divina

And any others you guys might recommend or advice on which of these might do the trick!?

    Thanks!

The Divina is elegant and offers more adult activities. We have been on the Getaway (sister ship to Escape) twice the and love beverage perk! I'd vote for either of those ships! I reviewed them on my blog too-

  8. Our 90-day dinner reservations open tomorrow. I am assuming that only restaurant seating is available at 90 days. We have our specialty restaurants and days figured out. Regarding the times, is there a good time to book that complements the evening shows? My assumption is that we cannot reserve seats for shows because the smaller ships tend to have review-type shows on a first come basis - is that accurate? We don't want to conflict ourselves with times or have to hurry up dinner to make a show.

PS - when is sun down in Alaska in late May? We have a departure scheduled for midnight. Should we expect complete darkness?

    Thanks!

We like to book earlier- around 6, which gives us lots of time to enjoy all the evening entertainment! :) If you cannot find a time you like online your NCL PCC can reserve it for you over the phone. :)

  9. Group of 8 of us sailing on Getaway soon and one of our party is a vegetarian. Does anyone know does Moderno offers any discount for that one person, who will only eat from the salad bar? I will ask once on-board, but wondered if anyone had an experience with this.

    Thanks!

It's a set price for all guests-but there is plenty to eat for non meat eaters too! The salad bar is huge, as well as several sides, desserts and grilled pineapple that comes around which is delicious! :)

  10. I also have the 50 photo promo on our April cruise. It states "50 standard photos". What size is the standard? Do they print them all the same size?

Also, I have only sailed Carnival in the past and they put all the pics on the wall and you have to find yours. Is this the way NCL does it also, or do they have the digital system? I'm on the Dawn if that makes a difference. Thanks.

We have the 50 standard photos as well and I am def. wondering the size...

  11. Hi there - we will be in an oceanview on Spirit and was wondering if anyone knows if there are coffee makers in the cabins? I've done a search and have found that there are in balconies and suites, but no indication of oceanview.

If not, what is the likelihood I'd be able to get one from our cabin steward. (I need my coffee first thing in the morning and don't want to have to get dressed to go up to the buffet, or get room service just for one cup of coffee). Thanks

I remember them only in the balcony and suite rooms...but you can get coffee as complimentary room service each morning-along with a few other breakfast pastries and tea & juice...:)

  12. I originally had deck 12 Balcony booked and got upgraded to the large balconies on deck 8. Best decision I have ever made for any vacation. There was no unwanted noise from the theater. The space of the large balcony made our trip. We ate breakfast on it and took naps. Loved it.

We had a large balcony on deck 8 and LOVED it- right at the front of the ship and the movement was not bad at all- plus it was great to walk to the Sunset Bar! :)

  13. I know you can't reserve dining until 90 days out, but what about other things like shows and excursions? I notice that for my cruise in October there are already some excursions that can be booked now. They're mostly things in Nassau which is the last port we're in. Does it list these now because Nassau isn't very popular among cruisers and they're hoping to get them booked up? Will anything else show up on there before the 90 day mark?

Not all ships have shows you can book ahead of time- but the ones that do (like the Getaway) will be released at the 90 day mark (or if you have a suite 100 days prior) :)

  14. I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death, but I can't find the answer by searching.

Why do I only see option to make reservations for cagneys, le bistro, and mdr's? Where are the others? Looking specifically for moderno. Will they ever show up online?

    Thanks in advance!

You can call your NCL PCC and he or she can reserve it for you over the phone if you cannot see it online and you want to be sure to get a table at a certain day and time! :)

  15. Consider this the stupid question of the day. Let me preface it with I've been doing shore excursion research for a couple hours now and am brain dead. :p Are the buffets served in the MDRs? Is it buffet for just breakfast and lunch and supper are off the menu?

Also, has anyone used a low calorie menu while on the Getaway? What was your experience like?

Also the buffet is open for all meals and snacks...:)

The buffet on the Getaway is HUGE and offers tons of food/sweets/salad/fruit/meats, etc. They even have a late night buffet from 9-11 ish and there is some salads, fruits, cookies, pizza, etc.

  17. Hi all-

8 days until I embark on the Getaway and couldn't be more excited! The ports are Roatan, harvest caye, Costa maya, and Cozumel.

We haven't booked any excursions yet, however have some questions.

Besides harvest key, does anyone know if the other 3 stops have beach massages by the port?

Are excursions necessary at any of the ports for safety reasons? We're trying to figure out what to do and any feedback would be helpful!

    Thanks!
