  1. You may already have your room assignment, ours was the next day. I also kept checking the prices because the cabins really went down in price - canceled my upgrade offer and paid outright for mini suite. GSC is beautiful - less crowded areas with beautiful beach/swimming away from the mainstream. Also, the day of GSC the prices for the cabanas went way down, in case you are considering doing that - unfortunately we had already paid top dollar :(

  2. Thank you very much for a excellent review from the YC onboard the MSC Seaside. Very nice to read. The YC is a fantastic value for money and we have sailed on the YC seven times and have two more booked. Love it :)

Next cruise in YC is on the MSC Seaview, can't wait to experience the new Seaside Class.

7 times!! Wow. So, you really are the person to ask this question to - we just went on the Norwegian Sun - nice, small ship, in fact I think the Celebrity Equinox is probably the largest ship we have been on. And even that is less than 3000 passengers. So, after being on the Sun, I kept thinking how crowded it seemed, and then I thought, how are we going to deal with 5000 passengers on the Seaside, even though we are in the YC? We do want to be able to explore the ship everyday, but now I just don't know. Does the rest of the ship seem crowded?? Thank you for any thoughts!

  3. I was on the June 1 cruise...I thought the Sun was great, we had a wonderful time. My complaints (I wrote a review) were the food in the MDR (dinner - we didn't eat there otherwise) was really bad. And, they did paint the balconies for one entire afternoon (we had two cabins) so for a three day cruise, to have an afternoon taken up was a bit much. But other than that, I thought she was a beautiful ship. The all inclusive drinks were great as well. GSC was beautiful. I would stick to weekend cruises on the Sun, just my opinion.

  4. Thanks to CC, we also brought straws :) Interesting to read about GSC, we were on same cruise as you, and had a small cabana. Now I'm REALLY glad we had that pricey cabana after reading about the rowdiness, because it was quiet and a beautiful spot for swimming/floating near our cabana (#11). Agreed - the MDR was not good.

  5. Here we go - short and sweet (mostly :D)

Arrived at the port about 12:30 - probably took about a half hour to get onboard. Rooms were ready at 1:30. Booked a mini suite, originally I had a bid in but the prices got so low I booked it about 2 weeks out. Loved the mini suite - huge bathroom. But, the tub is very high and would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. I would have preferred a large shower. Our room steward, Rey, did a fantastic job and was so nice.

The ship looked very nice - you could tell it had just been refurbished. However - they continued the refurbishment by painting our balcony an entire afternoon. Not cool.

    The crew was friendly.

The food in the MDR... Only ate there for dinner each night - So bad. SOOOO bad. I'm no foodie, but it was very bad. And the servers did not really seem to want to be there. Maybe they tried the food.

The pizza and the fries in other areas were good. That about covers that.

We stayed on the ship in Nassau.

GSC is beautiful. We had a small cabana, lots of great seating, service was great, the food from the $50 credit was very good. We loved the cabana. It especially came in handy during the deluge, but once that passed it was beautiful weather. I didn't see the large cabanas, but the small ones would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues to go near the water. Some had steep ramps, ours had a small, steep sandy hill down to the beach, and a bit of a walk to get to the cabanas from the tender.

The lounges on the ship were all great.

Debarkation was quick - we walked off with our suitcases at 7:30.

Would I cruise The Sun again? I would probably do the weekend cruise again, but I can't imagine a longer one with the food quality. Overall, it was a great cruise! And the drinks included with no card swiping is awesome.

  6. I was on that cruise, and I saw no one misbehaving, not even us. :) But seriously, I've seen more annoying people on a Celebrity cruise. We had a great time. We had to fly in as well, but chose this cruise as my daughter could just drive and meet us there, as we have done in the past on RC's Majesty out of Port Canaveral. I'm going to write a review but haven't had the time since our 12 hour travel day yesterday. IMO, the only thing to fear going on this cruise is the food in the MDR. Very bad.

  7. So great to hear about the Sun, thank you for sharing! We are on it in a few days for the first time, also on deck 11. I had a bid in for a mini suite and then the prices went lower than my bid so I booked the sailaway rate mini suite. We aren't doing the Cuba itinerary...Nassau and GSC. Think we will be able to get near the pool if we stay onboard in Nassau?

  8. I am on a 3 day next week - had a bid in for a mini suite from a balcony - the prices have gone so low, my bid was a bit more than the price for a guarantee rate so I pulled my bid and reserved a mini outright. I've been in tiny cabins - don't like it. The bit more of space I can get for a reasonable price, I will take it! Now I have to see what they give me lol.

  9. Las ramblas? You are not missing anything there. Was just a very sad bar for Cagneys. I’m on Sun now and los lobos is a big improvement.

txagfan, how's the Sun? I'm on it next week, first time. Thanks in advance for any info!

  10. Thanks so much for your review - which was much more entertaining than it sounds like the ship was! I'm on it in June, and like CruisingNole, have no plans to get off the ship in Nassau. I am looking forward to GSC because I took the plunge and rented a small cabana...hopefully the weather cooperates. Like you, taking my 27 year old (artist) daughter! And her bf..but those kids like to party.

All I can say is, thank goodness for the open bar!! :)

  11. I am on the 6/1 cruise and just logged in to check out Nassau excursions - there are several Atlantis ones, ranging in price from 65 pp to 329 pp (dolphin encounters are the pricey ones.) Balmoral Island beach break 89 pp, Balmoral Island Stingray and beach 99, Balmoral Island dolphin encounter 149 or swim 199, Balmoral Island beach break 69, Seahorse sail and snorkel 65, Catamaran and snorkel 65. They all say "from" before the price.

  12. Chris, thank you so much for that review - wonderful job with the pics and so much info! I'm debating whether to book Meraviglia or Seaside for 2020 (first world problem) and it's so helpful reading these in depth reviews people take the time to post. :)
