One more thing: take a moment to stroll Guidecca itself,if you can. I found it to be much less touristy than the central area of Venice, and we easily found interesting markets, a nice place for dinner on the sidewalk where we could people watch the locals during their commute home (for half of the price to eat across the canal!) and  other quiet beauty that was more difficult to experience among the hustle elsewhere.

This makes me so happy! I was getting discouraged hearing that it was out of the way etc but it sounds exactly what we’re looking for. Thanks so much!

We saved a bundle on our Marseille hotel, so booked canal-view rooms in Venice at the Bella Venezia.  2 minutes straight walk, no bridges, from Rialto vaporetto stop.  BV gets terrific reviews.

Ooh thanks for the tip. I’ll check it out.

Join your Roll Call, people are always organizing private shuttles from Trieste to Venice.  Easiest might be NCL's shuttle to VCE, then a water taxi or regular vaporetto.  Handling luggage is a challenge in Venice.  Rick Steves' Med Cruise book has detailed information on the mechanics of Venice transport.   Study a Venice map so you understand how arrivals/departures in Venice work, and just where the Hilton is.  I love Hiltons, but only in Venice a short time, so I picked a hotel 2 minutes walk from Rialto stop, no bridges.

Thankyou, I did join the roll call. Not much activity on there right now. I’ve done research on the Hilton and where it is. Even watched a YouTube video of someone traveling the waterways to get there. I’m still keeping my options open though and researching all the hotels.

I'm surprised people would say the bridge to Papadopoli was tough. My mother walked back and forth over that bridge several times and she was 80.  We travel light though; just one 21" case.  Here's video for the walk, including the bridge:

Walking to Hotel Papadopoli Venezia - YouTube

How about the new Marriott; right on the square so no bridges?

As for your question "where you need to go to get on that taxi ?"   If you're talking about the hotel shuttle it appears to travel between the hotel and Zattere or hotel and St Marks.  There's detailed info and a map on their web site.

Wow! That was an easy walk. This was very helpful. Thanks so much

If you only have one night in Venice, you may want to reconsider staying at the Hilton.  Too much time will be spent driving and transferring.

The Piazzale Roma area would be more convenient. It's the last point of land travel in Venice so it's where taxis, buses and cars drop off their passengers. Easy access to airport transportation and a block from the Grand Canal for sightseeing.

I had this in the back of my mind too. I checked out the Hotel Papadopoli because it was 1 bridge but people did mention it was still a little tough with luggage. Wondering what is involved in getting to the Hilton. I realize it’s the hotels water taxi that takes you over but any idea where you need to get to in order to get on that taxi?

I was on NCL Gem last Sept and the shuttles were only to the airport. I was hoping they had added a Venice shuttle.  You may want to call and verify.

The airport is about 10 miles from Venice so t's not horrific if that's where you have to go, but it's another stop and another transfer; a pain if you have too much luggage.

Megr's suggestion of a water taxi might be the best option to reach the hotel from the airport. It will be pricey though, about 150E for the 30 minute ride. You don't need to make a reservation but here is the info:

Booking Water Taxi in Venice is Now Easy - Consorzio Motoscafi Venezia

A cheaper option would be the Aliluguna water bus.  The blue line goes to the Hilton. It costs only 15E but takes 1 1/2 hrs.

    Thankyou so much!

If NCL has a shuttle, use it.  And then, honestly, for 3 of you with luggage, I'd suggest a private water taxi.  NOT cheap but for 3, the 140ish euro fare will cover all of you (and a certain amount of luggage.  For 3, probably 4-6 suitcases and a couple personal items).

That's the issue with sailings from "Venice'   They're either from Ravenna or Trieste, both a significant distance away (a few SMALL ships can still get closer to Venice).  The cruise lines need to make this fact OBVIOUS to guests, and TAs need to know this too.  (Many do but not all).

Also getting to the airport can be fun. Again, I took a water taxi. You can use Vaporettos to get around (think the T, but floating, or more accurately a floating city bus.  Once I wrapped my head around that, it all made way more sense.

Ohhh ok. The only shuttles I’m seeing so far are to the airport with tours on the way. And I agree, Trieste is not Venice.

Venice is 2hrs from Trieste, by car, bus or train..

The easiest option to Venice will be the NCL shuttle, $65 pp. However NCL might only run their shuttle to the airport, not to Venice itself (which is usually Tronchetto). So verify that information.

Otherwise you can take the train from Trieste Centrale to Venice S Lucia station, or take FlixBus to Tronchetto.  Each of these options will cost about 15E.  Be aware that the Trieste train station and bus station are on the same block but are a 15 minute walk from the pier. It's a flat easy walk on a nice day;not so nice when it's raining and you wait an hr for a cab,

There is info on transportation to your hotel from points in Venice at the end of the attached article:

Directions to the Molino Stucky Hilton | Venice for Visitors (europeforvisitors.com)

Oh wow. I didn’t realize it is two hours away and also didn’t realize we would need to do a train or bus. I am traveling with my parents and a decent amount of luggage.

The direction you gave are correct...its on a separate island from the main sites, but the hotel provides a shuttle for a small fee. It is a pretty nice hotel. It has one of the few pools in a hotel in Venice.

As to how to get there...that is a big question. Where is your ship docking?

Generally, we approached from the train station, and took a water bus.

We will be docking in Trieste. Was hoping there may be a water taxi from the cruise port directly to the hotel?

  10. Hi there,

Traveling end of June and will be in Venice on July 3rd coming from NCL Escape. First question was if anyone had info on how to get to our hotel from the cruise port and if anyone had any experience in staying at the Hilton Molina Stuckey on Giudecca Island. It says it’s about a 12-15 min water ride over to San Marco. Not familiar at all with Venice so any and all help is appreciated!

For all those sweating the tests.  Make a free appointment on Wednesday for a PCR test through project beacon.   Notable locations are New Bedford revere Framingham and a few others.  You will have to wait until a week before cruise but it will still be available.  If not, there are plenty of payfortests available instantly.

I was just going to ask if anyone used Beacon. I’ve used them in the past and it has always been pretty easy and free. Just worried how long the results would take but I think it was within 24 hrs?

After several years of trying the Stamford area hotels, we have settled on the La Quinta as our go to destination.  It’s a budget hotel, but we are very comfortable in the 2 queen room, particularly if we expect to hang out at the hotel.  They offer AAA, senior, and military rates. It’s a very easy on/easy off from I95.  For your date the rack rate is $95 plus tax (AAA base rate is $85.50). The 2 queen room has a microwave and frig and does not face I95.  The hotel offers free breakfast (nothing fancy), but that is adequate for our needs.  As Navybankerteacher pointed out, the Stamford Diner is connected to the hotel.  It’s an older property and does have a half flight of stairs to get to the elevators.  We try to get a room on the 1st or 2nd floor.  The rooms do have heat/air conditioning units.

I got a sense from your posts that you were looking at more high end hotels. If that is the case, then the LaQuinta might not suit your needs.

Another option if you want a suite is Hampton Inn in Stamford, which would be just under $200.  However, their website says they are undergoing renovations during business hours in June and that some of the suite balconies might not be available.  We stayed there twice and liked it, but not enough to pay almost double the price.  It’s a very pleasant location fronting on the Mill River Park instead of being right in the more urban downtown center.  If you’re interested in this, I’d call the manager to discuss the room as it’s difficult to tell from the pictures if there is a separate bedroom.

Thanks so much. I’m going to look into both and see what works!

  13. Ok I’m back! Dropped the ball and made the mistake of not booking a hotel and we’re cruising in June. I looked in White Plains and surrounding areas and it’s very pricey and not much available. We’re looking for something like a Residence Inn that has a separate bedroom. Please help! I don’t know any other area besides the White Plains area and it was so convenient to not have to drive through the city to get to the cruise port.

Review of Day 1 in Bermuda

This was our first trip to Bermuda, so it’s all new. We arrived at 8:00, and made our way off of the ship at about 9:00. We walked around the area by the port. There is a lot of shopping, etc. We really just wanted to get the lay of the land. We walked over to the Visitor Center and bought ferry coins for the ride to Hamilton in the evening.

At about 11 we headed back on the ship for lunch and to get ready.

Our Restless Native Catamaran trip met at 1:30 right near the ship. Meet up was super easy, which was a relief. We got into the boat and headed out right away. The boat is very nice, and the crew was amazing. We rode about 40 minutes to a spot right by a small beach. From there you could snorkel, kayak, float with a pool noodles, or hang on the boat. We have done a lot of snorkeling in the Caribbean, and I’ll say that the actual snorkeling was pretty disappointing. We saw only a few fish, and they were just brown fish sitting under rocks. Nothing much to see. Despite that, the excursion was awesome. We bought a few beers ($5) and grabbed noodles and just relaxed in the water. After finishing water time, they serve free rum swizzles and chocolate chip cookies on the boat. Both were great and the crew was top notch! We got back to the pier at 5.

When we got back back we went running back to the Escape to shower and then ran back to the ferry terminal to catch the 5:45 ferry to Hamilton. It was a huge rush, but we got there right at 5:40. The line was SO LONG to get onto the Ferry. We made it on and searched for seating. We ended up stumbling into the bottom of the ferry which was pretty empty and had an air conditioned area. So, tip....go downstairs!

We got to Hamilton about 6:30. We decided to go there because of the street fair. It takes place each Wednesday during the summer. It was a bit disappointing. Most booths were things we would see at home. We ended up eating in a restaurant because the street food wasn’t too appealing. We went to a British Pub called Flannagan’s. It was pretty good. After dinner we walked around a bit and went back towards the pier. It was only about 8:20, but there was already a long line for the ferry. We waited in line until 9, got back at 10, and stood in a very long line to get back on the Escape. Overall, it was a night of lines! I would recommend skipping the Hamilton street festival. It ended up being hours of waiting for very little.

Today we are doing “Caves and Waves,” so more later!

Could you please elaborate on the street fair. We were planning on going in August but if it’s not worth it we’re not going to bother. Also bringing our 7 year old so if it’s over crowded and not much going on then it doesn’t seem worth the craziness and Line’s.

    What is this CREDIT ?

On Board Credit (OBC) this can ONLY be used on board the ship

and is not used in booking a cabin.

Credit Card credit - use it against any billing on that Credit Card.

The Cruise Next Certificates are used pre-cruise in booking a cabin.

Perhaps the Credit you have can be combined with the CN certificate.

Normally only one CN certificate can be used in booking a cabin BUT

sometimes there are promos and timelines that permit a second to be used.

Give us a better description of this CREDIT to help explain.

It is a credit being put onto my account to use towards a future cruise, NOT CruiseNext or OBC. I asked NCL directly and they didn’t know if I could combine it with my CruiseNext so I’m not sure where to get the answer.

Great question. This is what I am wondering. We used to drink Tito's, Club Soda, and Chambord. Is that now a 14.95+19.95 = $34.90 drink?

I was on the phone yesterday with someone I know at Casinos at Sea. NCL hadn't even communicated any changes to her as of yesterday.

As soon as I saw Chambord I bummed out. Can’t make the French martini without it. But it’s just a splash (as it would seem it would be with your drink) and not a Chambord neat or on the rocks so I’m not sure how they handle it.
