  1. OP you should be able to find off peak times when you can get a lot better service than during peak times. Another suggestion is to try the wired comps in the internet cafe if wifi seems too sluggish. We do that sometimes and seem to get better performance.

  2. 1. I expect dance music to be loud and am not at all saying that it should not be.

    2. When I say that the piped music on Oasis was too loud I was saying that it was blaring loud like almost distorted and even a little 'PAINFUL' sometimes, made me turn my head like something was 'wrong', broke the scene, just was not appropriate for the venue.

    3. Sometimes at sail away we may have a DJ that plays Reggae, sometimes beach/60's music, sometimes more 80's rock or a good mix. I will absolutely never expect that a Reggae guy will be able to switch to smth like Lynard Skynard (lol just saying)....but then that Reggae DJ may get off at the next port and be replaced by something very different. At least that's our experience. On our first Royal cruise there was a great blues rock band, 4 guys that had their set and that was all and then they were replaced by a machine.

    4. As for any other type of complaining I strictly mean that if sound levels are so loud that you just can't escape them (and yes may even be unhealthy)....like we have noticed once or twice in the ATRIUM bar and dance area and it can be heard on every inside deck up and down the ship....then maybe Carnival or any other cruise corp needs to be made conscious of what they may be doing to their paying customers ears and nerves and moods. If I found annoying music blaring out from the atrium over half of the ship on every cruise, regardless of genre, then I just may decide at some point to totally erase cruising from my list of vacation options. And I believe that a lot of others would at least move cruising further down on their list.

  3. "Sea days we don't even bother except to maybe check email a couple of times."

You are not talking about the HUB, but the internet service, correct?

Correct, as some others were doing. I know that the OP started out talking about chat but then it went a little wild.

  4. On every ship you have to consider when the peak and slow times are going to be. Sea days we don't even bother except to maybe check email a couple of times.

Checking in with family, friends, a house sitter.....pulling up this forum and maybe others....and whatever else we may want to do online in the 1 or 2 hours a day that we collapse and relax and room TV is crap (ALWAYS) because it's our vacation and our time and our money to use however we want to.

  5. Again I will say that choosing another cruise line may not always work. On our last Oasis cruise the piped music playing on deck 15 was often too loud, it got to be very irritating before that cruise was over. It was not that way on our first Oasis cruise. That's why I am so insistent that we should say something when it happens. We just don't know how pervasive it may get if we don't put this kind of concern on their radar.

  6. I agree with most of what you say except your conclusion. Sure, you can walk away but that is not a solution. It just means that the sound might be even louder the next day..

That is my thinking as well, if there is some kind of trend going on where responsible professionals are beginning to ignore their responsibilities to public safety then they need to be confronted. If cruise ships continue to get max capacities from replacement customers then they will not get the message for a long time....maybe eventually but not before major damage is done and the reputation of the whole cruise industry itself suffers a serious blow. Yes I'm probably stretching but I'm also old enough to have seen that kind of thing happen in other cases....some kind of madness creeps in here and there little by little and then before we know it the whole barrel is rotten.

  7. Mkay so I have never been on a disco cruise. I love dance music so maybe I should look for one of those.

This thread is beginning to seem like beating a horse to death. BUT maybe the cruise directors do need to hear that maybe the music volumes on some ships are creeping out of hand....I remember that Royal Oasis piped music on the lido decks also seemed a little too loud on our last cruise. So I agree that there is a problem and I also agree that cruisers need to speak up in all cases where the music seems too loud according to their experiences and good judgement. Sometimes people don't want to say anything because they would just feel strange doing it, but maybe we need to push to get the word out that there are limits to how much 'fun' we can actually handle :)

  8. I have a noise meter app on my device, used it to make a decible level reading on the Celebrity Connie, provided it to "mgmt" and the noise level was reduced for balance of my cruise. I sent the reading to my email so I could send it to the US federal govt health department.

I would like to know what agency you sent this information to.

I don't know of any US federal agency that would regulate or care about the music level on a cruise ship.

I wonder if OSHA has any jurisdiction for cruises that home in the USA. They can get very serious about workplace complaints and cruise ships are also workplaces as well as having 'customers'....serious question, I really don't know.

  9. Welcome to Carnival! Sorry I can't tell you anything specific about Magic right now but we will be there in 12 days! We have cruised on both of Magic's sisters Breeze and Dream and love this class and expect to enjoy our Magic cruise as well. So now following your thread and also looking for tips. Happy cruising!

And best wishes for your Mom as well!

  10. May I say without being attacked for it that the whole purpose of FTTF is to buy PRIORITY over other passengers for a number of things and whoever wants to pay whatever amount for those priority perks is probably no more stupid or unreasonable than someone else that may simply have other 'priorities' when on vacation?

  11. I wonder how many of the meanies on BOTH sides of this debate would say some of the things to each other if they were face to face in the MDR, or RFP!

My thoughts exactly as to EVERYTHING online :)

Agree with you as well about REPORTING bad behavior when it is justified by site rules. Mods absolutely do not have the time to read or 'monitor' everything that gets posted on this or any other forum that I know of.

  12. The cheerleaders will jump on you. One in particular. Back when the stewards were saying you could only have morning or evening service, he jumped on my post and said that it was untrue when I had personally witnessed it.

For me and I would say also for many others, it isn't cheerleading so much as arguing against opinions that Carnival is automatically 'the worst of everything' as compared to all others. That is not true at all in my experience.

  13. You also are paying for the last morning and port days so does this logic still apply? Do you stay on the ship on port days and are you last off when disembarking? Just curious as I read this so often.

But technically debarkation day is the beginning of day 8 on a 7 day cruise ;p but ofc I do get your point and we have 'wasted' several of our paid port fees by not getting off of the ship.

After weeks and months of reading that so many of you have gotten onto the ship so quickly by boarding later, we decided to change our arrival time to a later window. We have also always wanted to just GET ON THE SHIP!! as early as we could but a couple of times that didn't turn out very well. It's still nice to just get into the mix at the port but after about 10 cruises it started to become impossible to 'beat the rush'....because more and more people are doing that? At least that's how it seems.

  14. To the Op, yes I agree with all you said..last cruise was on Vista and I could not wait for it to be over..you cannot state any negative opinions on Carnival on this site ..

So what will happen if you state any negative opinions about 'this site' that doesn't allow 'any negative opinions on Carnival' ..
