We are booking the same itinerary for Feb 7, 2019 (40th wedding anniversary cruise). The Pearl had renovations done this year and we will be on her this November for a cruise out of NOLA. I heard she was a dated ship, but that should be different after the renovations.

I don't expect a major surgical unit, but do they offer medical care for various emergencies or even minor ailments?
How would they treat someone who suddenly felt faint, or dizzy? Or had chest pains?
I'm looking for personal experiences.
I had to be taken to the medical facility on the Carnival Paradise one time due to a life threatening peanut allergy. This was a quick 5 day cruise with my sisters and daughters and I failed to tell them about my allergy (my fault). At dinner the second night I ordered a salad and no where did it say peanuts (their fault). The small sesame seed looking things were really crushed peanuts. I have to say, I have had this allergy my entire life and rushed to the hospital near death 3 times and once with a stay of 7 days. I can whole heartedly say, the Carnival staff to include the medical staff was top notch!!!!!!! I obviously survived (as alarms go off when I even have a small peanut near my lips/tongue so I knew what it was). From that point, the chef was to approve my choices of meals and desserts the day prior to that meal. The chef, waiter, medical staff and maitre d' were amazing!!!!!

If it were me, rather than asking other folks "where should we go?", I'd be asking each other "where do YOU want to go" and just go there.
We have! Just reaching out for additional ideas! We've traveled the world via the military, live at the beach and just thought I'd ask for suggestions. [emoji6]

Looking for suggestions for our 40th Anniversary cruise! Yes, we know we will cruise as that's always the way we travel now. Saying that, we mostly go for cruises that leave anywhere southeast so we can drive to the port. We live in the FL panhandle. We just celebrated our 38th, so my questions are many. Do we book two years out and get a cabin that usually gets snatched up quickly, do we wait to see what some of the destinations of the new ships coming out are like, what fun southern Caribbean cruises have you been on and lastly, any other suggestions?

Took our first NCL cruise this past November and we loved it!!!! We've only cruise RCL and Carnival before. Booking our second NCL this year as we had the best time on our first. We loved that at any time of the day there was something going on, or you could simply relax at the pool (plenty of chairs). We really liked the sports bar where we could come back from walking around port or an excursion and have a beer and wings or a sandwich. We very rarely ate at the buffet!

We stayed at the Embassy Suites our first cruise out of NOLA and NOT IMPRESSED! Then stayed at the Hilton this last one and were very happy. We parked at the Hilton and walked through the mall with our luggage to the port. A long walk, but doable for us.

Loved our first NCL cruise we took in November out of NOLA. I've been on RCI and Carnival and this was our first NCL. Like it so much we came home and immediately booked another.

We were on the Dawn in November and loved the ship! I don't care for some of the larger ships myself as I like to feel the movement of the sea! There was plenty to do on a day-to-day basis and relaxing and exploring the ship on sea days. Never did we feel like there wasn't something to do or too much down time like we did on our last Carnival Dream cruise.
I also agree with cage keeper, can't imagine any cruise being boring. But then again, I cruise to shut down and relax. [emoji6]

Go get a small Britta (we bought the Walmart brand). It fits perfectly in the bathroom!!!!! Between that and our stainless steel bottles we brought and ice in the room we were fine!

I'm still a bit confused with this so could someone please explain me with numbers:
when my TA is offering the following: "1. A beverage package for two, which includes select alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages onboard (service charges not included)"
The normal price for UBP is $79 per day. So do I actually pay $14,22 per day for this package prior the cruise or do I pay the 18 % for every single drink I get onboard?
We paid the $14.22 per day, per person (total of $255.96 for a nine day cruise) when we booked our cruise. We booked only 52 days from the day it was scheduled to leave. Each drink is about $8 dollars on board (if not more) and we knew if we drank at least two drinks a day we would be ahead. We were WAY ahead on this and thoroughly enjoyed the package!!!!!

Oh, one last thing. Does Louisiana tax drinks while in US waters like Texas? Looks like a long transit to the Gulf of Mexico.
Yes! But we aren't talking that much money. Maybe $1.20 a drink.

Awesome live review! I loved reading your Escape one, it got me really pumped for my trip.
I am in a sort of lull right now where I now know I passed the bar, have applications in all over the place, 4 interviews completed, and recently stopped working at my unpaid internship. A big girl job is right around the corner and I think I need a vacation before I really grow up.
The 5 day Dawn cruise that is leaving in a week is crazy cheap for solo's. I decided to do a courtesy hold on it and will likely pull the trigger tomorrow afternoon! I went on here to do some research and I feel like finding your live blog just sealed deal for me!
This was SO tempting for us too!!!! Inside cabins were down to an extremely low amount not to pull the trigger, however, hubby can't take off from work so we booked for a later date!!!!

We weren't in a suite, ate breakfast and honestly lounged a bit with our new friends we met on the ship, went back to our room to get our things and walked off by 8:15 and cleared customs by 8:30. IF we had a flight to catch we would have been able to get out much earlier. It's a gamble, but as TheDougOut shows very doable.

I have no idea myself. We cruise to shut off technology and the outside world. There could be options via the ship WiFi, but not certain. The DougOut is completing a LIVE Review called 11/27 Dawn and he has been uploading many photos and info and I would go on that and ask him.

Actually it's under the "Dawn Live - 11/27" that began on 11/25 from TheDougOut.

Let me add another question. Is there internet available on the island?

It is considered your Day 1 so I completely understand! It was our first NCL and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We are not loyal to them as we had great cruises with RCCL and Carnival too. I will share another thing we learned though. Freestyle dining is amazing, but just know if you find a server you like you can easily keep requesting them for future evenings. We found this out after a few not-so-great dining situations and once we found an amazing one tipped her additional and spoke to the Maitre D who informed us we can always come and request her the other evenings.

We got off the NCL Dawn in NOLA on November 20th. Did the self embark with taking our luggage off ourselves. We then drove home 3 1/2 hours away with a quick rest stop in between and home by 12:30! We were off the ship and cleared customs by 8:30 and had a walk through the mall to our car parked at the Hilton. I would say it's possible, but tight. We didn't have anyone to rely on like shuttles or taxi's, but with how our process went it could be done.

We went on our first NCL on Veterans Day. We had an earlier boarding time, but others had later and showed up and got on fine.
