  1. I'm a great believer in this observation: The human brain is a wonderful organ; it starts working the moment you wake up in the morning and doesn't stop until you get into the office.

    I love it!:p

  2. Sailed Majesty at the beginning of the month. Scheduled to fly in the night before arriving at 12:30am. Notice the word scheduled. Due to there not being a gate available at our connection city, we missed our flight to Miami. Thankfully there were multiple flights the next day - except they were all fully booked. We got lucky and they were willing to oversell one of those flights to get us there, but we were quite exhausted by the time we got to the ship.

For fun, our flight home from our connection city got cancelled as well. Thank goodness for travel insurance.

  3. You won't be able to get into T-3 without a boarding pass for a flight departing T-3. Even if you could the the Admirals Club wouldn't be worth the hassle to get over there and back.

BTW, the Admirals Club/Qantas Club relationship was quite unique and has been greatly reduced since you last took advantage of it.

  4. We're booked on the next Freedom cruise departing Port Canaveral this coming Sunday, July 26. I've seen nothing to indicate our voyage may be delayed or canceled (no messages yet received from RCI), but I'm following this thread to see if those onboard (who are thankfully safe) have any further information.

I wouldn't expect any messages until they've had time to assess the situation. I would definitely monitor these boards and RCCL's website though for any updates.

  5. What is the other airline? What's the ontime record of that particular flight? How disappointed are you and your son going to be if you miss your cruise? How much would it cost you to book last minute hotels until your return flight or a new return flight home?

Could you book a one-way out of CLT on another airline with a better schedule and then fly home on that cheaper airline, saving part but not all of the money?

  6. Fran -- how well do private transfers work with the (apparently) increasingly variable docking locations? I figure the cruise line transfer has to know where the ship actually is, but how do the private drivers know?

On my recent river cruise, in advance AMA provided specific maps of where we would be docking at the beginning and end of the cruise. At the end of the cruise, the cruise director coordinated even with privately booked transportation to make sure they all knew where we were docked, as it wasn't the typical dock.

  7. In my case, I've had to come out of security and claim a bag, then recheck it for the next flight. I've flown this way twice, at DFW. A bus transfer was necessary to another terminal.

I should have just mentioned, the added time needed if you have to transfer terminals. Sorry, for not thinking. :)

Was this before the Skylink was added? All the terminals at DFW are connected by train post security.

  8. I agree with Globaliser. There won't be a change of terminals at LHR. If possible, I do recommend a longer connection time at LHR due to the fun that can be T5 transit security (I always seem to get the total jobsworth of a security guy but that's probably my bad travel luck), but 95 minutes should be okay - MCT on a T5-T5 itinerary is 60 minutes.

  9. Okay now that you are booked, monitor your reservations on AA's website constantly as, in addition to normal seasonal schedule changes, due to the merger they are changing schedules what seems like weekly if not daily. while most likely you should be notified, it's best not to rely on that notification as it won't be immediately after the change as they go them in batches.

  10. Yes it leaves enough time. I did a similar itinerary last week - but with only a 45 minute connection at DFW. Due to issues we missed our connection but we still made it with plenty of time the next day. If you miss that flight to FLL, in addition to the morning flights to FLL, there's also multiple flights to MIA that would get you there in time (including one later that evening).

  11. Royal Caribbean sails from the Pan Am Pier. The closest hotel to that pier is the Sheraton Convention Center, but would still require a taxi. They are in sight of each other but it would be quite the walk especially with luggage.

The Sheraton most people think of is across the harbor in Old San Juan (Sheraton Old San Juan) - directly across the street from the pier Carnival uses.

  12. gardyloo, actually AA has started using multi-tiered levels for award redemptions. For example, for a flight to SJO in a few weeks, the saver award were 17.5k. 37.5k, or 65k depending on the date I wanted to fly. I would expect more situations like this to happen in the future.

  13. A lesson that I learned while waking up just as my flight was leaving. There's nothing like calling your best friend to let her know that you've missed your flight and the two of you will catch up with the ship in Nassau.[emoji20]

Wait until your entire roll call, including your cruise director, knows you've overslept and missed your flight.;) I don't recommend the Love Field to DFW by taxi precruise excursion btw.

  14. I was on in April over Easter. Total pinnacle was zero. Top cruiser had 400 points. Only 3 on Freedom two weeks ago.

Pinnacles normally do not cruise summer or holidays.....

Plus most went to Brilliance this past winter............But when BR is not here, they will go to the ship at PC.

I can tell you there were at least 9 Pinnacles onboard Majesty this past weekend.
