  1. Did you notice much smoking on the ship? The restrictive Celebrity policy was one reason that I started, and continued, with Celebrity. I've also enjoyed HAL cruises in the past, but it's been five years or so. Azamara is great, but I think they've priced themselves out of my price range, especially with the lower Canadian dollar.:(:(:(

  2. I'll miss it. There was a good audience for the shows I attended last November. I was with a friend who lives near the museum, and she was amazed at how much better the ship shows were. Unique, interesting, artistic. Not a waste of space, imo...for me, the casino is. Too bad the opportunity for alternate activities has been reduced, again.

  3. Agree that it's confusing! I went through the cruise planner link, and tried booking my excursion. There's a small horizontal line near the OBC amount with a slider dot on it. Slide it across to get to the amount of OBC that you want to use. Once I did this, the request for credit card information disappeared as OBC covered the excursion cost.

  4. This is good info for others to know about. We have never eaten in the main dining room on AZ and this will be helpful to many. We like to dine al fresco as often as possible, therefore chose Windows cafe. This was also a port intensive cruise so grabbed a quick bite early and out for the day of exploration. I wonder why they do not serve the fresh berries in Windows if they have them available?

Last month on the Quest I had fresh berries in the Windows Cafe every time I ate breakfast there (all but once). Delicious!

  5. I've enjoyed a few Azamara cruises, and consider it to be our preferred cruise line. However, I am writing this in the hope that Azamara will listen, as they did in their reconsideration of the proposed Sunset bar reno. I do not have a reservation for this cruise, although it was a possibility. I think it is a very unfair proposition to substitute a completely different itinerary, for fewer days, to those currently booked. As munch 1 is, I am also Canadian, and have already been to Cuba a couple of times, so the attraction might not be there for us. I realize other itineraries have been offered as replacements, but some already have flights and vacation time booked. Azamara, please make it right for these people.

  6. I noticed a tremendous deal this morning in the Globe and Mail travel section this morning. Prices are in Canadian dollars, and include air! I can't mention the travel agency however. Hopefully you'll find something you might like.

  7. We also enjoy both! Certainly itinerary is a factor....with only 2 ships, Azamara is much more limited. But we love their small ships for their ability to get to more unusual ports, eg. up the river to Bangkok.

Price is also a factor for us, with Azamara often at least twice the price. So one does pay for the all-inclusive nature.... gratuities, drinks, shuttles. Entertainment is more limited on Azamara, but we do enjoy the special events.

I would certainly recommend giving Azamara a try! Your elite status carries over as well.

  8. I also found their tea selection to be delicious. You can get either tea or coffee to go, and I did that with the decaf tea in the evening. Great perk! As others have said, do tell them your status as some servers just look for the drink package sticker on your Seapass card.

  9. From my experience this year on the Eclipse, both times with many elites (drink vouchers used): February....plated menu, June....buffet. No hot items at either. Always had mimosas, etc, ever since elite breakfast started, that I've experienced.☺

  10. My father (80's) and I (50's) sailed together a couple of times on each line over the last five years. His preference was Holland, mine is Celebrity! I did enjoy the Holland Cruises. My reasons for preferring Celebrity include, IMO, better food, smoking policy, entertainment, and loyalty benefits.

  11. Do they offer breakfast sandwiches? Or deserts other than pastries.

i.e. on the Star we could get chocolate mouse, salads, or even an egg mc muffin type sandwich for a quick getaway.

Will be sailing on the Millennium

No breakfast sandwiches. Muffins and pastries before noon, desserts later.

  12. Rascal1.......Hi, it's Susan, your HGS buddy! Thanks for your review. We agree that it was a fantastic cruise! We enjoyed the Faroe Islands for their uniqueness. Apparently we were within 15 minutes of not getting there due to the fog. I hiked up the western side.....gorgeous views!

We had early MDR seating, excellent service, very good food. But sometimes we just enjoyed the buffet as well.

So glad you got all of your treasures! We have friends that we are visiting this weekend who live in Ithaca, about an hour from Corning. Guess where we're going?? Haven't been in a number of years.

  13. Dining outside on the terrace of Windows Cafe is for us one of the highlights of an Azamara cruise. Even on the evenings we choose to eat in the MDR we usually have a drink at the terrace bar first. So please don't change this area.

    Agree 100%!

  14. I was on the Eclipse in February (where the breakfast was held in the Tuscan Grill, with a fabulous view), and the service was excellent. I very much enjoyed the peace and quiet of the breakfast, and the delicious fruit plate that included papaya and mango (that I never saw upstairs in the buffet). You could request just one or two croissants and they would be happy to do that, rather than bring a whole plate. The capaccinos were delicious, as well as the occasional mimosa!
