  1. The CruiseNext certificates are transferable; you can give or sell them to anyone who has an NCL account.

Never sign on the line which is dotted unless you are 100% + 1% certain you understand the fine print (PRINT being the operative word, not any verbal sales pitch >> ESPECIALLY one delivered by NCL reps).

  2. One of the variables would be if NCL can sell the room you've just vacated.

Fred is in a minisuite and bids $90 for a suite.

Joe is in a balcony and bids $100 for the suite.

But... Larry in an outside view room bids $50 for a minisuite

Now NCL can get $90 from Fred and $50 from Larry for $140, rather than just the $100 from Joe.

(Now multiply this by 1000 cabins!)

Unless JimBob comes in last second with a $50 bid for Joe's balcony! = $150 Joe + JimBob... you can "what if" this ad infinitum.

And which categories are most sought/bought by late bookers? At some point after the 'musical chairs' of bidding is resolved, they'll have to fill an empty chair.

    As we've agreed, multiple variables.

I wonder if this is a cold/hard computer driven algorithm, or whether there's a Human element reviewing the process.

  3. I am not sure how this works but my theory is to add what you paid for your cabin your bid together and the highest amounts would win.

Neither have I any idea how bids are selected or declined, but let's look at your theory.

Fred originally paid $1000 and bid $90 for an upgrade. = $1,090 total

    Joe paid $900 bid $100. = $1,000 total

Your theory "rewards" Fred with the bid for his $1,090 total.

But NCL already keeps both original payments and is looking at how much MORE they can now squeeze from Pax by pitting them against each other.

I'm guessing they take Joe's HIGHER BID of $100, regardless if his total, because they collect $10 more than taking Fred's $90.

I'm certain there are more factors involved, just replying to the sole variable of ,bid amounts.

  4. I make a good living on an hourly wage, one high enough that tips are unexpected and infrequent. However, the occasional $gratuity$ does find its way into my pocket, a much appreciated / pleasant surprise.

I know how it makes me feel to receive this generosity >> so I pool those few tips and 'pass it along' to the ship staff, especially the bartenders, waiters, bus staff, and of course steward.

I feel just as good passing it along as I did receiving it the first time.

    Yeah, that's selfish.

Do I get better service? Probably.

But that's not why I do it.

  5. I really wanted to watch Cubbies/Tribe (&Tito Francona) in WS last fall

OK, the Dawn didn't carry a feed. I lived with it.

Cocktails, hot tub ... as NCLFamily so wisely advised earlier.

But as a DieHard RedSox fan, I wept for the Chi/Clev fans I interacted with while aboard.

I would not have been able to bear being on a cruise in 2004 if there were no telecast >>> would have probably submitted a "Dog ate my homework" excuse to TripInsurance to get out of going.

  6. I should note, the system/TV would start & boot up and run a mini-routine, perhaps a mini Linux-based OS codes - as the signal wasn't OTA but via cat-5 or cat-6 wiring. The LG has several HDMI inputs as well as other input but always defaulted when restarting or powering up. I did not bring my HDMI cable for a direct hookup to "cast" - which I did on the Breakaway with the Sony Viao notebook PC, simple & easy - without messing with SSiD & other hotspot functions/settings on my end.

I'll run this through an online language translator, selecting "DorkTech to English"

I know you're trying to be helpful:)

  7. For accuracy, be sure to change your thread title tomorrow >> "What ship was in Copenhagen YESTERDAY?" .

Then change thread title again on Tuesday >> "What ship was in Copenhagen TWO DAYS AGO?".

    Ad infinitum.

Or you could just title the thread with today's DATE which will not require future readers to check your original posting for a time stamp.

    Sorry.....pet peeve.

  8. They look awesome......will be in Aruba on the Horizon in Feb of 2019. Will be doing this excursion. How many were in your group?

They have a total of six trikes available for guests. A driver and one-or-two riders per vehicle. Solid pre-trip instruction, humorous & informative guides>>>I felt very safe operating the trike (I'm not a motorcycle guy).

LOTS of envious attention from people as our small caravan rolled through town and Island.

  9. I remember talking to a client who had just returned>>>hated his sole cruising experience....I said "Yeah, not my idea of a good time either." He came back with "Unless your idea of a good time is lying around in the sun, reading & napping, and drinking beer, it's just no good." That was the point where I first thought 'hmmm... MAYBE I should reconsider?'

Fast forward --I finally relented, after years of refusing, and agreed to take DW for 25th Annv first (and in my mind ONLY) cruise. I researched the hell out of everything and selected a 14 night RCCL Caribbean Repo. I was jumping in with both feet, not just dipping a toe in the pool, knowing this was not the typical first timer approach. We had numerous comments from fellow passengers expressing pleasant surprise that we were so bold. But it was supposedly a 25th annv, 1&done experience which seemed a better value $/night than many shorter cruises. And I wanted to treat her right.

Can't recall if it was the second or third day when the words "OK, when we do the next one....." first came out of my mouth. DW was of course thrilled.

We'll be on a our shortest trip yet this Nov, 9 nights out of Boston to San Juan. DW already expressing doubt that we'll be satisfied with such a brief vacation. And I don't end up doing much lying around or napping.

  10. can you use cruise next to pay down a cruise you already have a deposit on.. i made a $150 deposit on a christmas cruise. we are taking a cruise in june, if i buy one cruise next for $250. on the june cruise can i use it to reduce what i owe on the christmas cruise?

Absolutely yes. You will see a tab on your "make a payment' page for applying certificates.

Your TA will also be able to apply your CN cert to a current booking.

  11. ......? Is the A la Carte price better/cheaper? Thanks!.....

Los Lobos is the Mexican venue (added to Dawn in last year's dry dock) not to be missed. But DON'T use one of your SDPs here-- pay a la carte with OBC or room charge, as prices are so low / servings so generous that it's unlikely you will get the same sort of value $ deal as at LeBistro or Cagneys.

  12. However, I am not afraid to say something when my "space" is being infringed upon. On a cruise on another line, (a typically more mature demographic) a group of us was sitting on the edge of the pool chatting.

    ....

The father was encouraging the child to swim to him and to kick, thereby splashing all in the vicinity. Until the child kicked and splashed into my face. At that point, I said to the child, "stop splashing, you are not the only one in the pool".

"your rights end, right where mine begin. And vice versa".

Complaining about being splashed with water while sitting at the edge of the pool is.....uhhhmmm......many adjectives spring to mind.

The actual quote you cite is closer to "Your Right To Swing Your Arm Ends Where My Nose Begins"

  13. Brought from Nantucket ferry tradition--

We toss a penny overboard on departure >> for good luck on this cruise, and guarantee a repeat journey in the future.

(Yes, against ship rules; I'm a rebel.

Yes, I may trash the entire marine ecosystem with a penny; not a tree-hugger).
