  1. I would add that wandering around Oia can be delightful, highly recommend you try the walnut cake with mastic ice cream. The buses from Oia can be crowded but the taxis are reasonable. We usually take one to the black sand beach of Kamari and have a nice lunch there looking at the water. And then a bus or taxi back to Fira, less busy this way.
  2. I love the good old Michelin green guides. They really help me planning what to see. I buy these and take other guides out from the library before hand. I used to use RIck Steve’s but find them limiting and now mostly avoid his recommendations. I prefer more local restaurants and hotels.
  3. Good morning and thanks all! I’ll take the wine red, white or blush. My grandma was a southpaw as she called it, and tried to teach me to crochet, but it was a no go. Glad people are no longer being made to change. @kochleffel loved your story! Thanks for the Iceland photos Debbie and Sandi. Happy birthday again to Dennis! Happy anniversary again John and Maria! @smitty34877 sending continue prayers for Lou’s recovery! @kazu we think alike, our preference is to donate as well. @0106we bought an air fryer and DH agrees with you. He thinks it just takes up space and blows the breakers. Our DS loves his, and bacon wrapped water chestnuts were amazing in it. His ankle is healing nicely so he’ll be able to go on his work trip, thank goodness for those ski Boots! Prayers for Maui! @marshhawkit is interesting to explore nearby places. I loved your story, we need to get out into the wild! Here’s a photo of our badlands, where a lot of dinosaur bones have been discovered. Would love to see others pictures of where they live.
  4. Definitely not for the faint of heart. We have some very experienced Arctic pilots in our city that had to fly down to make a rescue in the Antarctic winter, quite the journey.
  5. Or the Antarctic bridge, where they fly you across. Pricy but not sure I could survive the drake shake.
  6. Even for two, we found seeing Venice at sunrise by private water taxi absolutely priceless! The alialaguna is closed in, stops many times and can take forever. The difference is night and day!
  7. Good morning and thanks all. @smitty34877 hoping you all get some rest today to,build your strength! @summer slope sorry you have no answers but hoping no news is good news! @JazzyV yikes on your news. Stay safe. Very happy birthdays to Rich and Dennis! happy anniversary John and Maria! a good quote, and the wine is one of our house faves. We have enjoyed visiting that winery and one of their special wines.
  8. We found for Japan it was best to book early. That is a wonderful cruise, and you will have some time to look forward and plan for it.
  9. Good morning and thanks all! @smitty34877 sending hugs and prayers that the transfusion does the trick! So sorry you are going through this! @Quartzsite Cruiser I am in awe! thanks to Sandi and Debbie for the interesting photos! We spent much of yesterday in the Er with DS but what they thought was a break was a very bad sprain. Hoping he can heal quickly as he needs to travel early next week. So grateful for the Good Samaritan who stayed with him and provided drinks. sending this for Lou!
  10. Just wondering as the info from the US embassy says you do need it for medical devices. When we visited last time, we were told we needed one and found it’s easy to get.
  11. I couldn’t help giggling a little, as my DH says grade 8’s are the middle child of the middle schools, DGD is going into grade 8. Hope all goes well! Subbing is tough work!
  12. Good morning and thanks all! I’d love to try a shrimp boil, and that chicken caprese sounds great. Special thanks to @0106 and @summer slope and @cat shepard for yummy food and drinks! @mamaofami glad to hear some good news! @ger_77 hope all goes well today! @Tbay happy birthday! I too like others have spent a lot of time on Maui over forty years so my heart is broken for the devastation and loss.
  13. I don’t understand either. edited to say. I just saw it has been moved to the Hawaii forum. But usually it still shows up with an arrow so you can find it.
  14. @USN59-79 your story of the indigenous boy, brought tears to my eyes. How wonderful that he was recognized yesterday! But your other story, I am speechless! We always used to stop for lunch in Ellensburg, halfway between my aunts. @Seasick Sailor I too hope everyone is alright in Maui. Hopefully, @DeeniEncinitasis safe. how absolutely tragic! And frightening. Kihei was also evacuated. https://www.mauinews.com/news/local-news/2023/08/maui-on-fire/
  15. Good morning and thanks all! I will gladly celebrate book lovers day. My idea of heaven is reading on the deck of a Cruise ship! @smitty34877 thanks for the book suggestion, have you read Hilary Mantel’s trilogy about Cromwell? It’s excellent! @cunnorl glad the cataract surgery went well. @grapau27 lovely hydrangeas, we have rose bushes in memory of both our mothers. I was delighted to see in Buckingham palace Queen Elizabeth had a rose bush for one of their anniversaries from the royal family in the Netherlands. And trees planted for their family. @cruising sisterhope Baby Murphy gets stronger! Thanks for the update! @ger_77 so much to wrap your head around, but I’m sure it will make a big difference. we were very fortunate to experience the aurora again on the weekend.
  16. @marshhawk awesome news! Kanazawa has one of the top gardens in Japan, we also enjoyed amazing local drummers! also try to visit Shirakawa-go
  17. The national express leaves from near terminal three. You can just buy your tickets when you arrive, it works very well.
  18. Love the photo of “baby” miss Camilla! I echo Roy, hoping we can see baby Murphy growing too. @Cruzin Terri hope things settle down for you, take the time you need so a cruise is fun and welcome. I have at times had to postpone trips, and it is almost always better later when things are settled. @Oceansaway17 we have used the national express buses from Heathrow with good luck. Do check if the times are flexible before booking, with all the airline delays it might be easier to just buy when you are there. @rafinmdmy mom used lifeline, but when she fell it didn’t call and she laid there overnight, so perhaps one that dies the fall detection. A few lighthouses.
  19. Late to the party, I’ll catch up soon! We have spent a lot of time on Crete, Heraklion is not our favourite but recommend visiting Aghios Nikolas, it has a town on a lake as well as the sea. Elounda and Plaka are also interesting, you can visit the island of Spinalonga where there was a leper colony during the war. And of course Knossos. And the ancient Malia Palace…..
  20. We have had both great and terrible experiences in Heathrow. The problem we had in Narita was getting luggage. Took around an hour and we were business class. So YMMV. Plan for the worst. Hope for the best is my motto
  21. Good morning. Although I was very unsure about visiting Hiroshima, it was an amazing place. Highly recommend a visit to this eye opening and truly awesome city. so much in light of its history to experience We spent two nights there at the beginning of our trip to Japan.
  22. We’re camping so will try for Hakodate. Cell service is iffy. If you visit see the fortress and have crab. It was wonderful Hope all goes well for everyone
  23. Happy retirement @Mr. Boston southern Italy is beautiful. We spent several days there and stayed in a trulli
