The Gem feels bigger than the Breakaway. Much better designed ship. Has a sense of "flow" to it, and it feels more like something that was designed to be a comfortable cruise ship and not a floating mall.
Great Outdoors is just a wonderful space. Only crowded during peak breakfast times, otherwise always open and quiet and beautiful, unless some a-hole brings their own private speaker to play music (which I'm unfortunately seeing happen more and more).
Front of the ship is lovely, too. It's a designated "quiet zone" unlike on the Breakaway. Many more quiet places to relax on the Gem, including the Spinnaker lounge during the day if its cold and you still want nice views. I also love the promenade deck on the Gem.
Only drawback would be somewhat limited entertainment, and the bathtubs in some of the staterooms are kind of a pain to step into and out of. The ship is older than the breakaway, so there's a little more wear and tear (some rust on the balconies, cracks in the sinks, etc) and smaller TV's.
Overall the Gem is a great ship. There's a reason it's so many people's favorite.

It's a huge unsolved mystery as to whether or not you can get multiple appetizers at Ocean Blue with the SDP. Nobody seems to have a clear answer.

GSC is a money making MACHINE for NCL. All those shore excursions and clam shells and cabana rentals....plus all the booze sales from the non-UBP passengers.
-
I fill up a glass of ice water and then add just 1 quick squirt of the flavored water.
-
get that travel insurance, kids
-
And if you could help solve the mystery about multiple appetizers being permitted on the SDP, that would also be helpful.

Was just watching on the webcam. I always see a small handful of people at the very front of the ship for sailaway. Is that a Haven perk?
-
The licensing fees NCL pays to use the Margaritaville name have to be way more than the revenue that place brings in. I literally never saw more than maybe 2-3 families there, tops.
BRING BACK UPTOWN BAR & GRILL

How is just getting on line "priority"
-
You'll need documentation from the treating physician.
The nice thing about NCL insurance is that even if your claim is denied, you still get a 75% of 90% future cruise credit.

One night they showed a Tom Jones concert video on it.
-
I'd take the lowest deck available to minimize the noise from the parties at SpiceH20 at night.
-
jesus that's what I pay for a 7 day cruise

They lead you out through the bowels of the theater to the tender boats. I don't recall any flights of stairs.
Same thing on the island. Just a ramp.

You might to check if you have to pay a sales tax while in port.
Probably the bar in the Atrium will be open,
you do

My last time on Breakaway, the Hostess at Ocean Blue stated before she seated us, that under the SDP you are allowed 1-1-1. That was ok, as it turned out to be more than enough.
Cagney's was ok with more than 1 appetizer, and would probably be ok with more than 1 dessert, but neither of us had any room left for a dessert.
How long ago did you sail? Did you ask to speak to a manager? That policy is literally not stated anywhere. Individual NCL restaurants can't just make it up as they go. If you're limited to anything besides one entree, then that needs to be explicitly stated in the T&C. Otherwise I'm taking this all the way up to the hotel director.

Ocean Blue has an upcharge. Even though you have the dining package, you would need to pay ($15 plus the 18% gratuity) the extra amount to eat there
And supposedly you're limited to just one appetizer on the SDP, though nobody seems able to confirm this for . sure.
-
T&C says nothing about different rules in Ocean Blue beyond the upcharge and no seafood platter.

You can convert OBC to cash in the casino for a 3% fee? Seriously?
-
This is even more egregious considering one of the apps was soup. Like they'll miss an extra bowlful over the course of an entire evening. It's not like you asked for a quadruple order of the mussels.
-
I was always allowed multiple before. This was the first time I was told I couldn't have multiple, and I'm going on the same ship next week
This is not a stated restriction under the SDP terms & conditions.
Which ship?
-
Yeah but the Escape is coming to NYC. Almost the same as the Breakaway just better. Besides the hot dog cart, what difference is there to care about?
-
Other people have said they were limited to just one app, one main and one dessert course when using the SDP at Ocean Blue.
-
What can you use that $500 instant on board credit for? Could I use it in the casino or daily service charges? Thanks!

It's not OBC. Common misconception. If you buy $500 worth, you see that $500 charge, and then there is $250 subtracted from your total bill for the cruise. You don't get it as OBC.
Ocean Blue Seafood Extravaganza
in Norwegian Cruise Line

Yeah the question of the Seafood Extravaganza was never up in the air. That's explicitly excluded under the T&C, but multiple apps is not.
Sounds like you had no problem ordering more than one, though, under the $18 upcharge?
