Bumping to see if anyone has gotten a lounger in an angled balcony on one of the upper decks? Specifically one of the BD rooms.

Also if you've got a good book and a view of the open ocean who cares if you're alone. Load up your Kindle, meditate to the sounds of the wind and water, and if you're really craving human contact go to the solos meetup or the Cruise Critic meet and greet. That said, treating a cruise almost like a monastic experience can be lovely.

God, I really miss the Viking forums. I feel like I'm sailing with the rifraff of the oceans. What have I done?!

It's a quote from Caddyshack. Relax.

You'll get nothing and like it!

On "Asian Night" in the Garden Cafe they do have sushi, and it's exactly the kind of sushi you would expect to get at a cruise ship buffet where they're trying to keep costs down.
I assume the sushi at the actual sushi bar is better quality. I'd recommend hitting it up early in the cruise. That fish in the freezer doesn't get any fresher as the cruise progresses.

If you've never done Vibe, I can't see what frame of reference you could use to state its worth...winter or summer cruise. FWIW, the fact that the passes aren't easy to purchase and the fact that there aren't that many sold is one of the BENEFITS of the Vibe. If passes were easy to come by and plentiful, people would just go to the public pool deck instead.
Is there a need not to? You offer to answer questions for other posters ("Ask Me Anything"), but then you don't want to give answers. Perhaps the person is looking to see what cabin(s) you have direct experience with so they can see whether or not your perspective is relevant to their particular situation. Your cruise is over...keeping your cabin number a secret isn't necessary. Nobody is going to show up at the cabin looking for you.
SeaShark, how do you know my name?

Amtrak from Ft. Lauderdale to NYC?! That's like a 24 hour train ride.

I had a starboard side M6 minisuite. There aren't that many of those rooms, and they're all pretty much the same.

Thanks for offering answers to my ?s.
We are sailing on the Breakaway November 19. Would you tell me what Deck we embark onto? What is the earliest time we can embark the ship?
Is Vibe Beach Club worth the experience and how easy is it to purchase passes?
You enter the ship on Deck 7.
Earliest you'll get on the ship is probably 11:30, closer to 12:00 if you're not Platinum or in the Haven.
Never done Vibe. I don't think it would be worth it on a winter cruise, because the first and last days are usually chilly. They're not that easy to purchase because it's first come first served, and not a lot are sold.

they have lobster...only place on the ship that does.

HI, I was on the cruise also :) I hope I can jump in.
I don't think you can use the dinning plan in Ocean Blue. Try to check that out. O'sheans does not seem to have themed dinner nights anymore.
The shampoo they provided stripped my hair color out last time !!!! so ladies bring your own. There is a bar of soap by the sink, and body wash in the shower.
We saw Burn the Floor (Dancing) - and LOVED it. We saw Rock of Ages and really liked it a lot. Alvin was great, I don't care for Dan Dan.
I did a review on cabin 10848 Balcony if you want to see pictures.
Smoking: Deck 8 Maltings, Pool deck port side, and casino
Yes you can use your SDP at Ocean Blue, if you pay a $15 upcharge and agree not to order the (overrated and overpriced) seafood platter.

Shanghai's hours were basically 5 or 5:30 to 10 pm nightly. Portion size for noodles soup were small, cup/bowl sized ... as in small.
Washy Washy, did you noticed any nightly specials at O'Sheehan's ?
via Nexus 5X Oreo 8.0 w Tapatalk, VPN secured.
I didn't pay very close attention, so I don't recall if they had nightly specials or not. I usually avoided O'Sheehan's because it's so close to the cigarette stink of the casino. I only ate there once late at night and once for lunch. Didn't notice any signage either time promoting specials.

Glad you had a nice time!! Did you happen to notice what the hours were for the noodles bar? I hear they have restricted hours is that true?
Never hit up the noodle bar.

Its been a number of years since I sailed NCL, so excited about Thanksgiving on the BA. Do they supply shampoo/conditioner/body wash in the cabins? If so, any idea of quality/brand?
There's shampoo and body wash in dispensers in the shower. I don't know the brand.

Curious, What was your room number for your extended balcony mini suite?
Don't see the need to disclose that. It was a starboard side M6 minisuite.
-
Did you check out the Taco place on GSC?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Didn't do GSC this time. Wanted to maximize my time on the extended balcony. I'll be back at GSC, not sure if/when I'll ever have an extended balcony again.

Going back on the Breakaway Jan 19th for the third time. Who was your cruise director ? Still Dan Dan? How about the evening entertainment?
2 years ago they had a wonderful duo....I would have to research my journal to see who they were. Glad to hear you had a nice time....we were just on the Jade in October and some of the behaviors observed were awful
Alvin was the cruise director. Arvin and Emily are still doing their thing, but they're not really my speed because I don't like hanging out in the crowded Atrium. Only entertainment I saw was Howl @ The Moon, which was fantastic.
-
Did you notice what movies are available on demand in the room? Thank you.
No. Don't watch a lot of movies on cruises. Figure I can watch movies at home. I can't read a book on the balcony on the open ocean.
-
Ocean Blue qurstion:
Do they still serve lobster there?
Thx
Yes. Only place on the ship that does.
-
LOL so true!
I sail on Breakaway Dec. 3 in an extended balcony mini-suite. Deck 8 forward port side. Where was yours? How was the balcony?
Starboard side. Room was great. The balcony is stunningly large, and there's no overhang so you get an unadulterated sky view. Next time I'm on the BA it will be very hard to go back to the usual window ledge balcony.

Technically true since RIC's Anthem of the Seas sails year round from Port Liberty which is cross the river in NJ
So close, yet so far. There's no easy mass transit access to the NJ port. Nothing better than just hopping on the subway, getting off at the 50th street C/E station, and then walking a few blocks west to the pier.

The normal O'Sheehan's menu is practically a kids menu. Cheeseburger, hot dog, chicken wings, brownie with ice cream, etc.

My wife and I have never sailed on NCL before so was this your first cruise OR have you cruised with NCL before. So sorry to hear about how 'the ANIMALS' act when it's feeding time at the buffet:eek: IF it's any consolation, we saw the same thing on the Oasis of the Seas, 10/2013 so as you can see SOME people/animals NEVER change their spots or manners:rolleyes: I told my wife, after witnessing such nasty habits,'You'd think, by their ungodly actions, they MUST think this IS their last meal. Or someone's gonna come and take the food away. I'm sure the buffet staff have seen worse, and probably do (and with some good reason) have such a low opinion of some Americans. No wonder some will NOT visit the buffet. Kids, I try to excuse because after they see HOW the adults slop at the trough?
Mac
Been on NCL a number of times. I'm an NYC local, and it's the only line that leaves year round from NYC.

Well, welcome back.. some questions:
1.) Where did you cruised to?
2.) Did you enjoyed the cruise?
1.) BA's usual 7-day route to the Bahamas.
2.) Yes! The BA has undeniable flaws, but I was lucky and had an extended balcony minisuite and generally don't go for the events/games in the Atrium, so was able to avoid the worst of it. That said, people who grab food off the buffet with their bare hands and then eat off their plate while getting more food need to be thrown off the back of the ship.
