2 o’clock in the morning here, and once again, the toilet began overflowing onto the floor. We called the front desk and they sent a plumber up to look at it for a minute and then he disappeared. They didn’t tell us what they were or were not going to do to address the problem, but after we flushed it many times, once again, it stopped overflowing.

We then got a phone call from the front desk, and a fellow with a heavy Indian accent started yelling at us, telling us that we need to tell the customer to clean the toilet. I didn’t know what the hell he was talking about, neither did my buddy, so I told him that I didn’t know what he meant and then he started really yelling and said I told you you need to tell the customer to clean the toilet!  I then told him that I was the customer, and he apologized and said he called the wrong number.

Then, they sent housekeeping here, but they really was not anything to clean, because we stood there, pressing flush over and over again until the problems stopped. I told him that this wasn’t a housekeeping issue. It was a plumbing issue.

They forgot our chocolates tonight, which I didn’t mention, but I did mention that they only gave us one bath towel, and asked if he could rectify that, and he did.

I still don’t think this plumbing issue is resolved. I might have to call the assistant, housekeeping manager, Clyde, in the morning. It’s pretty annoying.

There is nothing more frustrating on vacation than when something goes wrong like this and they tell you it's your fault!

  2. So excited to finally be able to follow another of your reviews, which I love!  I'm really looking forward to following along on your cruise and to hear your very impartial observations for how Celebrity is doing. We were on Apex in August in a Celebrity Suite and we were already seeing signs of things to come...

Wish Jeremy a happy birthday and hope you have a wonderful vacation! Lisa

  3. We've sailed on M-, S-, and E-class ships.  FWIW, we much prefer the S-class ships.  I loved some of the new things about Apex in August, but many of the venues were extremely, uncomfortably crowded much of the time.  So much so that we were unable to see shows in the Club, attend events in Eden, watch the band in the Martini Bar area, and even just sit and have a nice drink in the Retreat Lounge. I haven't watched the webinar yet, but it would have been interesting to hear if their new ships will address some of the overcrowding.

  4. Thank you for another live review Jim! I hadn’t noticed it until page 8! I have been reading on the Viking forum lately as we, like you and many others, are going to be trying out other lines now. You put it very succinctly when you said “loyalty is a two way street”. We were on Apex in a CS in August and although the itinerary and staff were wonderful, we were very disillusioned by all the recent changes.

If you haven't discovered it already the thread I've linked below has lots of great hints and advice for first time Viking cruisers:

My biggest recommendation to maximize your value, find a travel agent that provides the maximum kickback of their commission that Viking allows-$150pp on cruises up to 7 nights, $300pp on 8-14 night cruises, and $500pp on cruises of 15 nights or more. This is enough to cover the daily service charge/gratuities and leave a little left over for the bar tab. 🍸

Hope you will like Viking as much as we do!

Oh my gosh!  Thank you so much!  I never have much luck with the search feature on cruise critic, so thanks for sharing!!!  Actually, the more I read about Viking, the more excited I get to put something on the books!!!  We have only sailed Celebrity for many years, but have become disillusioned and disappointed by all of their recent changes....

Yes we were told the exact same thing. I thought it was sky suites only but must be for celebrity suites too. I hope you are enjoying your cruise, we were in a Sky Suite on the Apex in June and really enjoyed the ship and the excellent crew.

The crew is wonderful! But after so many wonderful retreat experiences, this one has taken a little to get used to. The retreat concierges are amazing!!!!! But we see our butler once a day if we’re lucky. The retreat lounge is often full. And dinner in Luminae is often loud and crowded.
