  1. Did your friend say if there were any uncles in his cabin as well? The ship was oversold, not sure how there would have been another cabin to offer?

There was one cabin available for one night only because the original occupants missed embarkation and were flying to the next port to meet the ship.

It was a 7 night cruise not a 2 night so not sure where another poster got that idea.

  2. I usually email the Maitre'd about 3 weeks out, and have always gotten what I requested. Sometimes I received a reply and sometimes I didn't. I have never gone thru JH, and never will. Been lucky I guess.

The last time I was on the Splendor, only the upper level of the Black Pearl was YTD, but that may have changed.

As far as the buffet behavior, I see it on every cruise, and is spread amongst all ethnic groups. Don't think it will ever change.

I was on the same sailing of the Splendor as you were and we had YTD and were seated in the lower level of Black Pearl every night. unless you sailed her since the October 24 trip in which case could you tell me if the were the case? We thought our wait staff were fantastic and would love to have them again so if YTD is only on the upper level that probably isn't possible.

  3. I have been on 20 cruises and cruised both cruise lines. The demographics are much the same.

In terms of entertainment they provide two different products. Carnival's entertainment is designed so you can decide on the day of the event half an hour prior and go in and see it whereas Royal's are scheduled and sometimes ticketed (at no charge) . Many in fact book the events online before leaving home. Carnival's events are also short about a half hour long in most cases so it is not taking up your whole evening.

In terms of itinerary I would rather be in Puerto Rico during the daytime.

At the end of the day between these two trips Carnival likely will cost you less when you factor in food for the extra day if you aren't onboard you still have to eat.

For me it it would come down to which is cheaper . I would wait til just a few

    days prior.

  4. Normally lido dinner has pretty much the same things as the dining room except for formal night.

I haven't tried the new menus yet but I don't like what I see for vegetarians. The one non vegetarian item I did like was their fried chicken.

  5. We sailed on the Splendor repositioning cruise out of New York with my brother and sister and their spouses.

We were all in the hot tub when three grown women came along with bathrobes on. They waited a few minutes and then decided to remove the bathrobes and to my surprise they were fully clothed underneath. They motioned for me to move away from the stairs so I did thinking they were going to just dangle their feet in. To my astonishment the three women plunged into the hot tub with their clothes on.

I have never laughed as hard as I did that day.

  6. Was the message from your PVP or someone else telling you they left? I had someone call me awhile back telling me she was my new PVP because mine left but luckily I have another number to contact him at and so I did only to find out there was no truth in it.

  7. I had a situation on the Splendor recently at the Chef's Table experience. When contacted prior to our dinner I informed the caller that I have an allergy to pecans and walnuts. I repeated it twice as my sister died from an allergic reaction so I found one must be diligent when others are not. So imagine my surprise when the dessert served at the Chef's Table contained pralines which unbeknownst to me are made with pecans. Of course having not eaten pecans or having them in my home in decades I had no idea that a praline is a pecan.

Thank goodness for my son who did know and quickly informed me.

  8. question about the blt from room service; I notice that it is listed under cold sandwiches, and in other reviews have seen this with untoasted bread. My question is do you have to specify that the bread should be toasted or do they do this now automatically? thanks.

Other than continental breakfast, I usually only order room service sandwich once a cruise, but would like to try something different next time. I do love that fajita wrap sandwich, but figure, it is time for a change.

It does come toasted most of the time but twice on the Paradise I had the unfortunate experience of it coming on I toasted bread which was revolting to me. Now I always specify just to make sure.

  9. I am Canadian and ordered these for a wedding gift for a relative. I purchased the gift card option so the recipient was emailed the gift card number so no need to involve mailing at all. I did enter a U.S. State in that section on the form.

The only fly in the ointment came when they had to cancel their cruise months prior to the final payment date. The money was not returned to the e gift card balance. That was only discovered a later when I checked the balance online myself. To resolve this issue took many hours over several days and calls back and forth to Carnival- who blamed the third party gift card company and the gift card company blaming Carnival.

In the end Carnival sent my relative new gift cards-actual plastic cards with a verbal spanking to me if you can believe it. I was told by someone higher up the chain that when the cruise was canceled my nephew should have specifically asked to have the money put back on the gift card.
